Performance of the combined zero degree calorimeter for CMS
The combined zero degree calorimeter (ZDC) is a combination of sampling quartz/tungsten electromagnetic and hadronic calorimeters. Two identical combined calorimeters are located in the LHC tunnel at CERN at the straight section 140 m on each side of the CMS interaction vertex and between the two beam pipes. They will detect very forward photons and neutrons. ZDC information can be used for a variety of physics measurements as well as improving the collision centrality determination in heavy-ion collisions. Elastic and scattering at LHC
We discuss the possibility of measuring leading neutron production at the
LHC. These data could be used to extract from it and
cross-sections. In this note we give some estimates for the case of elastic

Total Cross Section Measurements With π- , Σ- And Protons On Nuclei And Nucleons Around 600 Gev/c
Total cross sections for Σ- and π- on beryllium, carbon, polyethylene and copper as well as total cross sections for protons on beryllium and carbon have been measured in a broad momentum range around 600GeV/c . These measurements were performed with a transmission technique in the SELEX hyperon-beam experiment at Fermilab. D, D and D mesons are reconstructed via their hadronic decay channels in the centre-of-mass rapidity range and transverse momentum interval GeV/. The multiplicity dependence of D-meson production is examined by either comparing yields in p-Pb collisions in different event classes, selected based on the multiplicity of produced particles or zero-degree energy, with those in pp collisions, scaled by the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions (nuclear modification factor); as well as by evaluating the per-event yields in p-Pb collisions in different multiplicity intervals normalised to the multiplicity-integrated ones (relative yields). The nuclear modification factors for D, D and D are consistent with one another. The D-meson nuclear modification factors as a function of the zero-degree energy are consistent with unity within uncertainties in the measured regions and event classes. The relative D-meson yields, calculated in various intervals, increase as a function of the charged-particle multiplicity. The results are compared with the equivalent pp measurements at TeV as well as with EPOS~3 calculations
Observation Of The Cabibbo-suppressed Decay ξc+ π K- π+
We report the first observation of the Cabihbo-suppressed charm baryon decay ξc+ → pK- π+. We observe 150 ± 22 ± 5 events for the signal. The data were accumulated using the SELEX spectrometer during the 1996-1997 fixed target run at Fermilab, chiefly from a 600 GeV/c Σ- beam. The branching fractions of the decay relative to the Cabibbo-favored ξc+ → Σ + K- π and ξ+ →c+ →- ξ+ π+ π+ are measured to he B(ξc+ → pK- π+)/B(ξc+ → Σ- π+ K π+) = 0.22 ± 0.06 ± 0.03 and B(ξc+ → ξ π+π+pK- π+)/B(ξc+ →- π+ π+) = 0.20 ± 0.04 ± 0.02, respectively.84918571861Körner, J.G., Krämer, M., (1992) Z.
