Peripheral artery disease and blood pressure profile abnormalities in hemodialysis patients
Patients undergoing chronic hemodialysis (HD) are at increased risk for peripheral artery disease (PAD). Both ankle-brachial index (ABI) and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) in the interdialytic period have been shown to be strong predictors of all-cause mortality
A Systematic Review of the Effects of High-Fat Diet Exposure on Oocyte and Follicular Quality: A Molecular Point of View
Worldwide, infertility affects between 10 and 15% of reproductive-aged couples. Female infertility represents an increasing health issue, principally in developing countries, as the current inclinations of delaying pregnancy beyond 35 years of age significantly decrease fertility rates. Female infertility, commonly imputable to ovulation disorders, can be influenced by several factors, including congenital malformations, hormonal dysfunction, and individual lifestyle choices, such as smoking cigarettes, stress, drug use and physical activity. Moreover, diet-related elements play an important role in the regulation of ovulation. Modern types of diet that encourage a high fat intake exert a particularly negative effect on ovulation, affecting the safety of gametes and the implantation of a healthy embryo. Identifying and understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms responsible for diet-associated infertility might help clarify the confounding multifaceted elements of infertility and uncover novel, potentially curative treatments. In this view, this systematic revision of literature will summarize the current body of knowledge of the potential effect of high-fat diet (HFD) exposure on oocyte and follicular quality and consequent female reproductive function, with particular reference to molecular mechanisms and pathways. Inflammation, oxidative stress, gene expression and epigenetics represent the main mechanisms associated with mammal folliculogenesis and oogenesis
Search for dark matter produced in association with bottom or top quarks in âs = 13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector
A search for weakly interacting massive particle dark matter produced in association with bottom or top quarks is presented. Final states containing third-generation quarks and miss- ing transverse momentum are considered. The analysis uses 36.1 fbâ1 of protonâproton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at âs = 13 TeV in 2015 and 2016. No significant excess of events above the estimated backgrounds is observed. The results are in- terpreted in the framework of simplified models of spin-0 dark-matter mediators. For colour- neutral spin-0 mediators produced in association with top quarks and decaying into a pair of dark-matter particles, mediator masses below 50 GeV are excluded assuming a dark-matter candidate mass of 1 GeV and unitary couplings. For scalar and pseudoscalar mediators produced in association with bottom quarks, the search sets limits on the production cross- section of 300 times the predicted rate for mediators with masses between 10 and 50 GeV and assuming a dark-matter mass of 1 GeV and unitary coupling. Constraints on colour- charged scalar simplified models are also presented. Assuming a dark-matter particle mass of 35 GeV, mediator particles with mass below 1.1 TeV are excluded for couplings yielding a dark-matter relic density consistent with measurements
Measurement of the very rare decay
The decay K+âÏ+ÎœÎœÂŻ
, with a very precisely predicted branching ratio of less than 10â10
,
is among the best processes to reveal indirect effects of new physics.
The NA62 experiment at CERN SPS is designed to study the K+âÏ+ÎœÎœÂŻ
decay and to measure its branching ratio using a decay-in-flight technique.
NA62 took data in 2016, 2017 and 2018, reaching the sensitivity of the Standard Model
for the K+âÏ+ÎœÎœÂŻ
decay by the analysis of the 2016 and 2017 data,
and providing the most precise measurement of the branching ratio to date
by the analysis of the 2018 data.
This measurement is also used to set limits on BR(K+âÏ+X
), where X
is a scalar
or pseudo-scalar particle.
The final result of the BR(K+âÏ+ÎœÎœÂŻ
) measurement and its interpretation in terms
of the K+âÏ+X
decay from the analysis of the full 2016-2018 data set is presented, and future plans and prospects are reviewed
Lâinformativa sui rischi nelle banche italiane quotate al FTSE All Share. Analisi empirica della disclosure nel triennio 2006-2008
Since the 2005 the relevance of the disclosure on companyâs risks as well as the systems for risk management has increased and this is probably due to the major importance assigned to such information by the International accounting standards (particularly IFRS 7 and IAS 32) and the EU directive 51/2001. In this paper are presented the results of an empirical analysis carried out on the annual reports of Italian banks listed to the segment âFTSE All Shareâ of the Milan Stock Exchange. The main objectives of the research are: - Evaluate the propensity of the banks to report voluntary the information about their risks; - Analyze the attributes (qualitative vs. quantitative, past oriented vs. forward-looking orientation, etc.) of the risk disclosure; - Assess if some relations exist between the quantity of the risk disclosure and other key risk indicators such as the TIER 1 ratio and the Beta. The findings of our analysis reveal that the risk disclosure concerns almost entirely the mandatory information that the company must produce according to Italian law (particularly the âCircolare 262/2005â of Bank of Italy) whilst the voluntary disclosure is significant less extended than the mandatory one. The normative requirements influence the content of the external reporting so as the major part of the information regard those elements (type of risks, actions of risk management, units involved in the risk management processes, etc) that the company must produce to comply with the aforementioned Law. The analysis of data shows that a significant relation exists between the quantity of the risk disclosure that concerns credit risk, market risk and operational risk and the level of companyâs risk. This means that those banks with a high level of inherent risk (measured by the Tier 1 ratio) and a high level of systematic risk (measured by the Beta) disclosure more information on risks. This mean that risk reporting could be seen by the financial statementâs prepares as a mean for reducing the perception of the bankâs risk profile that the stakeholders could have if they use other risk indicators as the Tier 1 ratio or the Beta
