Warthin's Tumour Of The Parotid Gland: Our Experience.
Benign tumours account for approximately 60-80% of parotid neoplasms and among these, Warthin's tumour is the second most common benign neoplasm accounting for approximately 15% of all parotid epithelial tumours. The medical records of 100 consecutive patients with Warthin's tumour of the parotid gland admitted for treatment at the Department of Head and Neck Surgery and Otorhinolaryngology, Hospital A.C. Camargo, SĂŁo Paulo, Brazil, between 1983 and 2011 were retrospectively analyzed. The surgical procedures included 104 (96%) subtotal parotidectomies and 4 (3.7%) total parotidectomies. One hundred and eight parotidectomies were performed in 100 patients with Warthin's tumour. Postoperative complications occurred in 67 (62.3%) of surgical procedures, and facial nerve dysfunction was the most frequent complication, occurring in 51 of 108 surgeries (47.2%). The marginal mandibular branch of the facial nerve was affected in 46 of the 48 cases (95.8%) of facial nerve dysfunction. Frey's syndrome was diagnosed in the late postoperative period in 19 patients (17.6%). We conclude that either superficial or total parotidectomy with preservation of facial nerve are the treatment of choice for Warthin's tumour with no case of recurrence seen after long-term follow-up. Facial nerve dysfunction and Frey's syndrome were the main complications associated with this surgery. Thus, if on one hand total parotidectomy is an appropriate radical resection of parotid parenchyma reducing, in theory, the risk of recurrence, on the other hand superficial parotidectomy is also a radical and efficient method with lower morbidity in terms of facial nerve dysfunction and Frey's syndrome.33393-

Antiskyrmions and their electrical footprint in crystalline mesoscale structures of Mn1.4PtSn
Skyrmionic materials hold the potential for future information technologies, such as racetrack memories. Key to that advancement are systems that exhibit high tunability and scalability, with stored information being easy to read and write by means of all-electrical techniques. Topological magnetic excitations such as skyrmions and antiskyrmions, give rise to a characteristic topological Hall effect. However, the electrical detection of antiskyrmions, in both thin films and bulk samples has been challenging to date. Here, we apply magneto-optical microscopy combined with electrical transport to explore the antiskyrmion phase as it emerges in crystalline mesoscale structures of the Heusler magnet Mn1.4PtSn. We reveal the Hall signature of antiskyrmions in line with our theoretical model, comprising anomalous and topological components. We examine its dependence on the vertical device thickness, field orientation, and temperature. Our atomistic simulations and experimental anisotropy studies demonstrate the link between antiskyrmions and a complex magnetism that consists of competing ferromagnetic, antiferromagnetic, and chiral exchange interactions, not captured by micromagnetic simulations
The influence of semantic and phonological factors on syntactic decisions: An event-related brain potential study
During language production and comprehension, information about a word's syntactic properties is sometimes needed. While the decision about the grammatical gender of a word requires access to syntactic knowledge, it has also been hypothesized that semantic (i.e., biological gender) or phonological information (i.e., sound regularities) may influence this decision. Event-related potentials (ERPs) were measured while native speakers of German processed written words that were or were not semantically and/or phonologically marked for gender. Behavioral and ERP results showed that participants were faster in making a gender decision when words were semantically and/or phonologically gender marked than when this was not the case, although the phonological effects were less clear. In conclusion, our data provide evidence that even though participants performed a grammatical gender decision, this task can be influenced by semantic and phonological factors
Resonance capture cross section of 207Pb
The radiative neutron capture cross section of 207Pb has been measured at the
CERN neutron time of flight installation n_TOF using the pulse height weighting
technique in the resolved energy region. The measurement has been performed
with an optimized setup of two C6D6 scintillation detectors, which allowed us
to reduce scattered neutron backgrounds down to a negligible level. Resonance
parameters and radiative kernels have been determined for 16 resonances by
means of an R-matrix analysis in the neutron energy range from 3 keV to 320
keV. Good agreement with previous measurements was found at low neutron
energies, whereas substantial discrepancies appear beyond 45 keV. With the
present results, we obtain an s-process contribution of 77(8)% to the solar
abundance of 207Pb. This corresponds to an r-process component of 23(8)%, which
is important for deriving the U/Th ages of metal poor halo stars.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, to be published in Phys. Rev.
Measurement of the forward energy flow in pp collisions at √<span style="text-decoration:overline">s</span>=7 TeV
The energy flow created in pp collisions at sâ=7 TeV is studied within the pseudorapidity range 1.9<η<4.9 with data collected by the LHCb experiment. The measurements are performed for inclusive minimum-bias interactions, hard scattering processes and events with an enhanced or suppressed diffractive contribution. The results are compared to predictions given by Pythia-based and cosmic-ray event generators, which provide different models of soft hadronic interactions
Measurement of the photon polarization in decays
The photon polarization in transitions is measured for the
first time in radiative b-baryon decays exploiting the unique spin structure of
decays. A data sample corresponding to an
integrated luminosity of collected by the LHCb experiment in
collisions at a center-of-mass energy of is used. The photon
polarization is measured to be , where the first uncertainty is
statistical and the second systematic. This result is in agreement with the
Standard Model prediction and previous measurements in b-meson decays.
Charge-parity breaking effects are studied for the first time in this

Angular analysis of and decays and search for violation
The first full angular analysis and an updated measurement of the decay-rate
asymmetry of the and decays are reported. The analysis uses proton-proton
collision data collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of
7, 8 and 13 TeV. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9
fb. The full set of -averaged angular observables and their
asymmetries are measured as a function of the dimuon invariant mass. The
results are consistent with expectations from the standard model and with

Searches for rare Bs0 and B 0 decays into four muons
Searches for rare Bs0 and B0 decays into four muons are performed using proton-proton collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fbâ1. Direct decays and decays via light scalar and J/Ï resonances are considered. No evidence for the six decays searched for is found and upper limits at the 95% confidence level on their branching fractions ranging between 1.8 Ă 10â10 and 2.6 Ă 10â9 are set.
