Approximate Particle Number Projection for Rotating Nuclei
Pairing correlations in rotating nuclei are discussed within the
Lipkin-Nogami method. The accuracy of the method is tested for the
Krumlinde-Szyma\'nski R(5) model. The results of calculations are compared with
those obtained from the standard mean field theory and particle-number

Null Deformed Domain Wall
We study null 1/4 BPS deformations of flat domain wall solutions (NDDW) in
N=2, d=5 gauged supergravity with hypermultiplets and vector multiplets
coupled. These are uncharged time-dependent configurations and contain as
special case, 1/2 supersymmetric flat domain walls (DW), as well as 1/2 BPS
null solutions of the ungauged supergravity. Combining our analysis with the
classification method initiated by Gauntlett et al., we prove that all the
possible deformations of the DW have origin in the hypermultiplet sector or/and
are null. Here, we classify all the null deformations: we show that they
naturally organize themselves into "gauging" (v-deformation) and "non gauging"
(u-deformation). They have different properties: only in presence of
v-deformation is the solution supported by a time-dependent scalar potential.
Furthermore we show that the number of possible deformations equals the number
of matter multiplets coupled. We discuss the general procedure for constructing
explicit solutions, stressing the crucial role taken by the integrability
conditions of the scalars as spacetime functions. Two analytical solutions are
presented. Finally, we comment on the holographic applications of the NDDW, in

Evidence Against Instanton Dominance of Topological Charge Fluctuations in QCD
The low-lying eigenmodes of the Dirac operator associated with typical gauge
field configurations in QCD encode, among other low-energy properties, the
physics behind the solution to the problem (i.e. the origin of the
mass), the nature of spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking, and the
physics of string-breaking, quark-antiquark pair production, and the OZI rule.
Moreover, the space-time chiral structure of these eigenmodes reflects the
space-time topological structure of the underlying gauge field. We present
evidence from lattice QCD on the local chiral structure of low Dirac eigenmodes
leading to the conclusion that topological charge fluctuations of the QCD
vacuum are not instanton-dominated. The result supports Witten's arguments that
topological charge is produced by confinement-related gauge fluctuations rather

Superdeformed rotational bands in the Mercury region; A Cranked Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov study
A study of rotational properties of the ground superdeformed bands in \Hg{0},
\Hg{2}, \Hg{4}, and \Pb{4} is presented. We use the cranked
Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov method with the {\skm} parametrization of the Skyrme
force in the particle-hole channel and a seniority interaction in the pairing
channel. An approximate particle number projection is performed by means of the
Lipkin-Nogami prescription. We analyze the proton and neutron quasiparticle
routhians in connection with the present information on about thirty presently

Black Holes in Higher-Dimensional Gravity
These lectures review some of the recent progress in uncovering the phase
structure of black hole solutions in higher-dimensional vacuum Einstein
gravity. The two classes on which we focus are Kaluza-Klein black holes, i.e.
static solutions with an event horizon in asymptotically flat spaces with
compact directions, and stationary solutions with an event horizon in
asymptotically flat space. Highlights include the recently constructed
multi-black hole configurations on the cylinder and thin rotating black rings
in dimensions higher than five. The phase diagram that is emerging for each of
the two classes will be discussed, including an intriguing connection that
relates the phase structure of Kaluza-Klein black holes with that of

Electromagnetic wave propagation in rain and polarization effects
This paper summarizes our study on microwave and millimeter-wave propagation in rain with special emphasis on the effects of polarization. Starting from a recount of our past findings, we will discuss developments with these and how they are connected with subsequent research
Search for direct production of charginos and neutralinos in events with three leptons and missing transverse momentum in √s = 7 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector
A search for the direct production of charginos and neutralinos in final states with three electrons or muons and missing transverse momentum is presented. The analysis is based on 4.7 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data delivered by the Large Hadron Collider and recorded with the ATLAS detector. Observations are consistent with Standard Model expectations in three signal regions that are either depleted or enriched in Z-boson decays. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set in R-parity conserving phenomenological minimal supersymmetric models and in simplified models, significantly extending previous results
