Unfalsified adaptive control for manipulators with parameter uncertainties

This work evaluates by simulation the performance of the Unfalsified Adaptive Control (UAC) for Multiple Degree of Freedom (MDoF) serial manipulators. The UAC is a data-driven technique that addresses stability issues of model-based controllers for robot arms with inertial uncertainties. The unfalsified controller selects the most suitable controller from a set, based on performance, to decide whether the controller in the closed loop should be changed, using only system inputs and outputs, i.e., torques and joint variables of the robotic arm, respectively. In this work, performance and robustness is evaluated by simulation on a 5-DoF manipulator showing the ability of the UAC to accomplish tracking tasks in the presence of inertial parameters disturbances.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

Modelo logístico para aproximar Curvas S de planeación de proyectos de alcantarillado

The engineering projects have a plan of activities to be carried out in an estimated initial time, which is contrasted with the real time that the execution of the project took. This initial plan is of utmost importance for both the builder and the contracting entity of the work, since this represents a direct relationship of the costs of each stage and the time they demand. The graphic representation of this relationship is adopted as a planning resource, and its form is similar to the S curve. On this graph, it can be seen that at the beginning of the project the accumulated costs are increasing, and at the end of the project it is observed that they decrease. For these reasons, this paper presents a logistic equation model that predicts the planning of a sewer construction project based on a given budget for its execution and the estimated initial time. The model is constructed from a representative sample of sewerage projects executed in the province of Pichincha, and is validated using other that not taken into account in said sample. The model proposed in this paper has as an added value its usefulness in decision-making by public entities because it provides a more accurate estimate of the project's valued timelineLos proyectos de ingeniería tienen un plan de actividades a realizar en un tiempo inicial estimado, el cual se contrasta posteriormente con el tiempo real que efectivamente demora la ejecución del proyecto. Este plan inicial es de suma importancia tanto para el constructor como para la entidad contratante de la obra, ya que representa una relación directa de los costos de cada etapa y el tiempo que demandan. La representación gráfica de esta relación se adopta como un recurso de planificación, y su forma es similar a la curva S, sobre este gráfico se aprecia que al inicio del proyecto los costos acumulados son crecientes, y al final del se observa que decrecen. Por tales razones, en este trabajo se presenta un modelo de ecuación logística con la que se predice la planificación de un proyecto de construcción de alcantarillado partiendo de un presupuesto dado para su ejecución y el tiempo inicial estimado. El modelo se construye a partir de una muestra representativa de proyectos de alcantarillado ejecutados en la provincia de Pichincha, y se valida empleando otros no tomados en cuenta en dicha muestra. El modelo que se propone en este trabajo, tiene como valor agregado su utilidad en la toma de decisiones por parte de los entes públicos, porque proporciona una estimación más precisa sobre el cronograma valorado del proyect

Mortality and pulmonary complications in patients undergoing surgery with perioperative SARS-CoV-2 infection: an international cohort study

Background: The impact of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) on postoperative recovery needs to be understood to inform clinical decision making during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. This study reports 30-day mortality and pulmonary complication rates in patients with perioperative SARS-CoV-2 infection. Methods: This international, multicentre, cohort study at 235 hospitals in 24 countries included all patients undergoing surgery who had SARS-CoV-2 infection confirmed within 7 days before or 30 days after surgery. The primary outcome measure was 30-day postoperative mortality and was assessed in all enrolled patients. The main secondary outcome measure was pulmonary complications, defined as pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, or unexpected postoperative ventilation. Findings: This analysis includes 1128 patients who had surgery between Jan 1 and March 31, 2020, of whom 835 (74·0%) had emergency surgery and 280 (24·8%) had elective surgery. SARS-CoV-2 infection was confirmed preoperatively in 294 (26·1%) patients. 30-day mortality was 23·8% (268 of 1128). Pulmonary complications occurred in 577 (51·2%) of 1128 patients; 30-day mortality in these patients was 38·0% (219 of 577), accounting for 81·7% (219 of 268) of all deaths. In adjusted analyses, 30-day mortality was associated with male sex (odds ratio 1·75 [95% CI 1·28–2·40], p\textless0·0001), age 70 years or older versus younger than 70 years (2·30 [1·65–3·22], p\textless0·0001), American Society of Anesthesiologists grades 3–5 versus grades 1–2 (2·35 [1·57–3·53], p\textless0·0001), malignant versus benign or obstetric diagnosis (1·55 [1·01–2·39], p=0·046), emergency versus elective surgery (1·67 [1·06–2·63], p=0·026), and major versus minor surgery (1·52 [1·01–2·31], p=0·047). Interpretation: Postoperative pulmonary complications occur in half of patients with perioperative SARS-CoV-2 infection and are associated with high mortality. Thresholds for surgery during the COVID-19 pandemic should be higher than during normal practice, particularly in men aged 70 years and older. Consideration should be given for postponing non-urgent procedures and promoting non-operative treatment to delay or avoid the need for surgery. Discutindo a educação ambiental no cotidiano escolar: desenvolvimento de projetos na escola formação inicial e continuada de professores

A presente pesquisa buscou discutir como a Educação Ambiental (EA) vem sendo trabalhada, no Ensino Fundamental e como os docentes desta escola compreendem e vem inserindo a EA no cotidiano escolar., em uma escola estadual do município de Tangará da Serra/MT, Brasil. Para tanto, realizou-se entrevistas com os professores que fazem parte de um projeto interdisciplinar de EA na escola pesquisada. Verificou-se que o projeto da escola não vem conseguindo alcançar os objetivos propostos por: desconhecimento do mesmo, pelos professores; formação deficiente dos professores, não entendimento da EA como processo de ensino-aprendizagem, falta de recursos didáticos, planejamento inadequado das atividades. A partir dessa constatação, procurou-se debater a impossibilidade de tratar do tema fora do trabalho interdisciplinar, bem como, e principalmente, a importância de um estudo mais aprofundado de EA, vinculando teoria e prática, tanto na formação docente, como em projetos escolares, a fim de fugir do tradicional vínculo “EA e ecologia, lixo e horta”.Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educació
