    Aurivela longicauda (Red-tailed Teiid). Predation

    Get PDF
Aurivela longicauda is an endemic lizard from the Monte Desert region of western Argentina. It is an agile lizard that is typically observed during the warm hours of the day, where it inhabits sedimentary sand or dunes with a few shrubs and scattered ground vegetation. The aim of this note is to report an observation of an A. longicauda being preyed upon by an Argentine dwarf spider, Grammostola mendozae. The predation of vertebrates by arthropods is documented worldwide. The predation event was recorded in Talampaya National Park (TNP), located in an extensive plain of the Monte region (29.8°S, 67.833°W, WGS 84; 1300 m elev.) in the center-west of La Rioja Province (Argentina), which was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. At 1310 h on 11 November, during pitfall trap surveys in TNP, we found the spider feeding on the right portion of the skull, including the right eye, of an adult A. longicauda. After a few minutes, the spider dragged the lizard for a few centimeters and let it go. The lizard was collected and housed at Museo de La Plata Herpetological Collection. Our observation is the first record of predation on A. longicauda by G. mendozae.Fil: Kass, Camila Alejandra. The psychosocial accompaniment in scenarios of violence, uses various tools such as addressing contexts from the narrative approach. This facilitates the understanding of situations related to victims, making evident the psychosocial capacities in them and the identity of survivors, through the reading of contextual and personal realities starting from the voice, the image and the reconstruction of stories. Besides, from the narrative, strategies of self-understanding and re significance of victimizing situations are promoted, generators of pain and suffering; with which individuals and communities recognize skills and abilities resilient, develop dignifying and quality life projects, from the present reality and in prospection, and not only from a past fractured by a violent fact. This academic exercise proposes the analysis of life stories, taken from the book, Voices: Stories of violence and hope in Colombia, edited by the World Bank in 2009, about real stories in the context of the armed conflict; establishing a scenario of analysis and reflection of the intervention and psychosocial action, delving into the art of asking with an objective and therapeutic intent. questions of strategic type are made, circular reflective representing great importance in understanding the story chosen and the establishment of possible support mechanisms around this. Next, the Pandurí case is addressed, so that the collaborative group achieves identifying emerging and psychosocial impacts found within the same and also, establish actions to support and crisis intervention that enhance the process of care and assistance to victims towards enhancing their coping resources. The UNAD, through the present academic work, strengthens its psychology program students, abilities both personal and professional, that allow a reflective look, in the face of the social changes that the armed conflict in Colombia has generated, responding to the socio-historical reality of the country in the context of post conflict. Likewise, It contributes to the formation and construction of future professionals ability to deal with, interpret and act from the narrative approach in different contexts and violent realities

The aim of this research was to evaluate execution velocity (EV) as a marker of metabolic health in university students. During the year 2020 and the first semester of 2021, a descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out on 57 students (45 men and 12 women) belonging to a higher education institution located in the city of Bogotá, Colombia. To measure VE, the T-Force System, Ergotech, was used during the development of a direct protocol to determine the value of one repetition maximum (1RM) in the squat and bench press exercise. To assess the metabolic profile, a blood sample was taken, which was deposited in the Cardiocheck equipment with which total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoproteins (HDL), low-density lipoproteins (LDL), and glucose levels. Participants who developed a lower average mean propulsive speed in all the series developed, both in the squat test and in the flat press exercise, presented a higher Metabolic Risk Score compared to those who had a better performance (p < .001).El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar la velocidad de ejecución como marcador de la salud metabólica en estudiantes universitarios. Abstract Background Studies have shown that complete concentric circular collapse (CCC) at the velum is a frequent finding in drug-induced sleep endoscopy, implying a worse prognosis for surgical outcomes in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). Our group evaluated the results of pharyngoplasties with barbed sutures for this indication. We selected 48 patients with OSAS and CCC who underwent pharyngoplasty with barbed sutures in 8 tertiary centers. The outcome results were measured by polygraphy or polysomnography and Epworth Symptoms Scale (ESS) at least 6 months after surgery. Results Apnea Hypopnea Index (AHI) improved from 34.9/h [21.2] to 12.7/h [10.6]. The success rate according to Sher's criteria was 86.7%, the cure rate was 23.9%, and an AHI < 10 occurred in 42.2% of the cases. The oxygen desaturation index improved from 32.5/h [29.9] to 12.5/h SD [11.6], and the ESS improved from 10.2 [5.2] to 6 [3.5]. Conclusions Pharyngoplasty with barbed sutures seems to be a good alternative for patients with OSAS and CCC findings in drug-induced sleep endoscopy

Modeling complex metabolic reactions, ecological systems, and financial and legal networks with MIANN models based on Markov-Wiener node descriptors

[Abstract] The use of numerical parameters in Complex Network analysis is expanding to new fields of application. At a molecular level, we can use them to describe the molecular structure of chemical entities, protein interactions, or metabolic networks. However, the applications are not restricted to the world of molecules and can be extended to the study of macroscopic nonliving systems, organisms, or even legal or social networks. On the other hand, the development of the field of Artificial Intelligence has led to the formulation of computational algorithms whose design is based on the structure and functioning of networks of biological neurons. These algorithms, called Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), can be useful for the study of complex networks, since the numerical parameters that encode information of the network (for example centralities/node descriptors) can be used as inputs for the ANNs. The Wiener index (W) is a graph invariant widely used in chemoinformatics to quantify the molecular structure of drugs and to study complex networks. In this work, we explore for the first time the possibility of using Markov chains to calculate analogues of node distance numbers/W to describe complex networks from the point of view of their nodes. These parameters are called Markov-Wiener node descriptors of order kth (Wk). Please, note that these descriptors are not related to Markov-Wiener stochastic processes. Here, we calculated the Wk(i) values for a very high number of nodes (>100,000) in more than 100 different complex networks using the software MI-NODES. These networks were grouped according to the field of application. Molecular networks include the Metabolic Reaction Networks (MRNs) of 40 different organisms. In addition, we analyzed other biological and legal and social networks. These include the Interaction Web Database Biological Networks (IWDBNs), with 75 food webs or ecological systems and the Spanish Financial Law Network (SFLN). The calculated Wk(i) values were used as inputs for different ANNs in order to discriminate correct node connectivity patterns from incorrect random patterns. The MIANN models obtained present good values of Sensitivity/Specificity (%): MRNs (78/78), IWDBNs (90/88), and SFLN (86/84). These preliminary results are very promising from the point of view of a first exploratory study and suggest that the use of these models could be extended to the high-throughput re-evaluation of connectivity in known complex networks (collation)

Azimuthal anisotropy of charged jet production in root s(NN)=2.76 TeV Pb-Pb collisions

    Get PDF
We present measurements of the azimuthal dependence of charged jet production in central and semi-central root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV Pb-Pb collisions with respect to the second harmonic event plane, quantified as nu(ch)(2) (jet). Jet finding is performed employing the anti-k(T) algorithm with a resolution parameter R = 0.2 using charged tracks from the ALICE tracking system. The contribution of the azimuthal anisotropy of the underlying event is taken into account event-by-event. The remaining (statistical) region-to-region fluctuations are removed on an ensemble basis by unfolding the jet spectra for different event plane orientations independently. Significant non-zero nu(ch)(2) (jet) is observed in semi-central collisions (30-50% centrality) for 20 <p(T)(ch) (jet) <90 GeV/c. The azimuthal dependence of the charged jet production is similar to the dependence observed for jets comprising both charged and neutral fragments, and compatible with measurements of the nu(2) of single charged particles at high p(T). Good agreement between the data and predictions from JEWEL, an event generator simulating parton shower evolution in the presence of a dense QCD medium, is found in semi-central collisions.
