The Dynamic Properties of Confined Antiferroelectric Liquid Crystal Investigated by Photon Correlation Spectroscopy
Dynamic light scattering was used to examine ferrielectric liquid crystalline phases in porous media. Whereas in larger pores (200 Ă
) ferrielectric phases were observed, they were not found in the smallest pores (200 Ă
). Additionally, the temperatures of SmC - SmA phase transition were found to be suppressed in the pores relative to bulk, while SmCA - SmCÎł phase transition is not affected by the confinement. These observations have been explained by the structural aspects of antiferroelectric liquid crystalline materials in a confined geometry and show the importance of long range electrostatic interaction for existence of ferrielectric phases
The Dynamic Properties of 5Cb Filled with Aerosil Particles Investigated by Pcs
Nematic liquid crystal filled with Aerosil particles, a prospective composite material for optoelectronic application, has been investigated by static light scattering and Photon Correlation Spectroscopy (PCS). The Aerosil particles in filled nematic liquid crystals (FN) form a network structure with LC domains about 2500 Ă
in size with a random distribution of the director orientation of each domain. We found that the properties of 5CB are considerably affected by the network. The N-I phase transition in filled 5CB was found to be smeared out and depressed. PCS experiments show that two new relaxation processes appear in filled 5CB in addition to the director fluctuation process in bulk. The slow relaxation process, with a broad spectrum of relaxation times, is somewhat similar to the slow decay, which is observed in confined nematic liquid crystal. The middle frequency process was assigned to the director fluctuations in the surface layer formed at the particle-LC interface. The decay function describing this relaxation process is a stretched exponential (ÎČ â 0.7). The temperature dependence of the relaxation times of the middle frequency obeys the Vogel-Rilcher law. Such a temperature dependence, accompanied by a broad spectrum of relaxation times suggests that the dynamics of the director fluctuations near the Aerosil particle-LC interface is glass-like
The exclusive and decays in the general two Higgs doublet model
We study the differential branching ratio, branching ratio and the
forward-backward asymmetry for the exclusive and decays in the general two Higgs doublet model including
the neutral Higgs boson effects. We analyze the dependencies of these
quantities on the neutral Higgs boson contributions and the other model
parameters. We observe that two Higgs doublet model with the neutral Higgs
boson exchanges gives quite sizable contributions to these observables for both
channels we consider. Since the neutral Higgs boson exchanges are the only
source of the forward-backward asymmetry for decay,
which is at the order of magnitude , measurement of this observable is
promising to determine the neutral Higgs boson effects.Comment: 27 pages, 18 eps figures, requires JHEP3.cls (included), replaced

Electron and hole states in quantum-dot quantum wells within a spherical 8-band model
In order to study heterostructures composed both of materials with strongly
different parameters and of materials with narrow band gaps, we have developed
an approach, which combines the spherical 8-band effective-mass Hamiltonian and
the Burt's envelope function representation. Using this method, electron and
hole states are calculated in CdS/HgS/CdS/H_2O and CdTe/HgTe/CdTe/H_2O
quantum-dot quantum-well heterostructures. Radial components of the wave
functions of the lowest S and P electron and hole states in typical quantum-dot
quantum wells (QDQWs) are presented as a function of radius. The 6-band-hole
components of the radial wave functions of an electron in the 8-band model have
amplitudes comparable with the amplitude of the corresponding 2-band-electron
component. This is a consequence of the coupling between the conduction and
valence bands, which gives a strong nonparabolicity of the conduction band. At
the same time, the 2-band-electron component of the radial wave functions of a
hole in the 8-band model is small compared with the amplitudes of the
corresponding 6-band-hole components. It is shown that in the CdS/HgS/CdS/H_2O
QDQW holes in the lowest states are strongly localized in the well region
(HgS). On the contrary, electrons in this QDQW and both electron and holes in
the CdTe/HgTe/CdTe/H_2O QDQW are distributed through the entire dot. The
importance of the developed theory for QDQWs is proven by the fact that in
contrast to our rigorous 8-band model, there appear spurious states within the
commonly used symmetrized 8-band model.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figures, E-mail addresses: [email protected],

Higher meson resonances in and
The role of higher meson resonances with spin 1 and 2 is investigated
quantitatively in the decay processes of and
. Among the higher resonances, we find that the
tensor meson can give a nontrivial contribution especially to the
decay process. When the contribution is
combined with the processes involving the vector and scalar meson intermediate
states, a good agreement with the recent measurements is achieved for both
decays. The effect of the is found to be sizable at the
intermediate photon energies and may be verified by precise measurements of the
recoil photon spectrum of the decay. The
dependence of the decay widths on various models for the - mixing
in the literature is also investigated.Comment: 16 pages, REVTeX, 6 figures, revised version, to appear in Phys. Rev.
Charm multiplicity and the branching ratios of inclusive charmless b quark decays in the general two-Higgs-doublet models
In the framework of general two-Higgs-doublet models, we calculate the
branching ratios of various inclusive charmless b decays by using the low
energy effective Hamiltonian including next-to-leading order QCD corrections,
and examine the current status and the new physics effects on the determination
of the charm multiplicity and semileptonic branching ratio .
Within the considered parameter space, the enhancement to the ratio due to the charged-Higgs penguins can be as large as a factor of 8 (3) in
the model III (II), while the ratio can be increased from
the standard model prediction of 2.49% to 4.91% (2.99%) in the model III (II).
Consequently, the value of and can be decreased simultaneously
in the model III. The central value of will be lowered slightly by
about 0.003, but the ratio can be reduced significantly from the
theoretical prediction of in the SM to , for GeV, respectively. We find that
the predicted and the measured now agree within roughly one
standard deviation after taking into account the effects of gluonic charged
Higgs penguins in the model III with a relatively light charged Higgs boson.Comment: 25 pages, Latex file, axodraw.sty, 6 figures. Final version to be

Charmless hadronic decays and new physics effects in the general two-Higgs doublet models
Based on the low-energy effective Hamiltonian with the generalized
factorization, we calculate the new physics contributions to the branching
ratios of the two-body charmless hadronic decays of and mesons
induced by the new gluonic and electroweak charged-Higgs penguin diagrams in
the general two-Higgs doublet models (models I, II and III). Within the
considered parameter space, we find that: (a) the new physics effects from new
gluonic penguin diagrams strongly dominate over those from the new -
and - penguin diagrams; (b) in models I and II, new physics contributions
to most studied B meson decay channels are rather small in size: from -15% to
20%; (c) in model III, however, the new physics enhancements to the
penguin-dominated decay modes can be significant, , and
therefore are measurable in forthcoming high precision B experiments; (d) the
new physics enhancements to ratios {\cal B}(B \to K \etap) are significant in
model III, , and hence provide a simple and plausible new
physics interpretation for the observed unexpectedly large B \to K \etap
decay rates; (e) the theoretical predictions for and
in model III are still consistent with the data
within errors; (f) the significant new physics enhancements to the
branching ratios of and decays are helpful to improve the
agreement between the data and the theoretical predictions; (g) the theoretical
predictions of in the 2HDM's are generally
consistent with experimental measurements and upper limits ()Comment: 55 pages, Latex file, 17 PS and EPS figures. With minor corrections,

B^0-\bar{B}^0 mixing and B \to X_s \gamma decay in the third type 2HDM: effects of NLO QCD contributions
In this paper, we calculated the next-to-leading order (NLO) new physics
contributions to the mass splitting \dmd and the branching ratio \brbxsga
induced by the charged Higgs loop diagrams in the third type of
two-Higgs-doublet models (model III) and draw the constraints on the free
parameters of model III. For the model III under consideration, we found that
(a) an upper limit |\ltt|\leq 1.7 is obtained from the precision data of
\dmd=0.502 \pm 0.007 ps^{-1}, while |\ltt| \approx 0.5 is favored
phenomenologicaly; (b) for decay, the NLO QCD contributions
tend to cancel the LO new physics contributions; (c) a light charged Higgs
boson with a mass around or even less than 200 GeV is still allowed at NLO
level by the measured branching ratio \brbxsga: numerically, 188 \leq \mh
\leq 215 GeV for (|\ltt|,|\lbb|)=(0.5,18); (d) the NLO QCD contributions
tend to cancel the LO contributions effectively, the lower limit on \mh is
consequently decreased by about 200 GeV; (e) the allowed region of \mh will
be shifted toward heavy mass end for a non-zero relative phase between
the Yukawa couplings \ltt and \lbb. The numerical results for the
conventional model II are also presented for the sake of a comparison.Comment: 42 pages, 18 eps figures, Revtex, new references adde
Search for direct production of charginos and neutralinos in events with three leptons and missing transverse momentum in âs = 7 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector
A search for the direct production of charginos and neutralinos in final states with three electrons or muons and missing transverse momentum is presented. The analysis is based on 4.7 fbâ1 of protonâproton collision data delivered by the Large Hadron Collider and recorded with the ATLAS detector. Observations are consistent with Standard Model expectations in three signal regions that are either depleted or enriched in Z-boson decays. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set in R-parity conserving phenomenological minimal supersymmetric models and in simplified models, significantly extending previous results
Measurement of the polarisation of W bosons produced with large transverse momentum in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV with the ATLAS experiment
This paper describes an analysis of the angular distribution of W->enu and
W->munu decays, using data from pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV recorded with
the ATLAS detector at the LHC in 2010, corresponding to an integrated
luminosity of about 35 pb^-1. Using the decay lepton transverse momentum and
the missing transverse energy, the W decay angular distribution projected onto
the transverse plane is obtained and analysed in terms of helicity fractions
f0, fL and fR over two ranges of W transverse momentum (ptw): 35 < ptw < 50 GeV
and ptw > 50 GeV. Good agreement is found with theoretical predictions. For ptw
> 50 GeV, the values of f0 and fL-fR, averaged over charge and lepton flavour,
are measured to be : f0 = 0.127 +/- 0.030 +/- 0.108 and fL-fR = 0.252 +/- 0.017
+/- 0.030, where the first uncertainties are statistical, and the second
include all systematic effects.Comment: 19 pages plus author list (34 pages total), 9 figures, 11 tables,
