THE DECOMPOSITION OF CELLULOSE IN LAKE SOYANG, KOREA
For elucidating the degradation rates of phytoplankton, part of carbon cycle, the rates of cellulose breakdown were investigated at two sites in Lake Soyang. Cellulose films stained with Rmazol brilliant blue R were used as the substrate. The degradation rates were ranged betweeen 0.1-100 %. In summer and autumn, the cellulose films were completely decomposed in epilimnion of fish farm site, but only about 30 % of the dam site. The perfect degradation of cellulose at the fish farm site were due to the fish feed, which contains phosphate, and showed the possibility of new indicator of eutrophication. At the metalimnion, the rates were higher than other depth in summer and autumn.Article信州大学理学部付属諏訪臨湖実験所報告 7: 73-80(1991)departmental bulletin pape
Community analysis of aggregated bacteria in southern Lake Baikal
The main aim of this study is to unveiling the community structure of aggregated bacteria in lake Baikal and determining the relations with free-living bacteria. For achieving this aim, FISH method was applied to free-living and aggregated bacteria in Lake Baikal at April, 2001. Bacterial counts of free-living bacteria by DAPI staining ranged from 0.2×10⁶ to 3.2×10⁶ cells·ml⁻¹, which decreased with depths, whereas aggregated bacterial numbers dramatically increased with depths, ranged from 0.4×10⁴ to 3.3×10⁴ cells·ml⁻¹. Also, the ratios of EUB probe binding cells to DAPI counts ranged from 52.3 to 74.1% in free-living bacteria, from 39.6 to 66.7% in aggregated bacteria, respectively. Community composition of aggregated bacteria was very different from free-livng bacteria. Especially, that is remarked at 25m depth which is observed the highest value phytoplankton. The vertical profile of aggregated bacteria community was very particular. β-Proteobacteria was increasing with depth till 100m. In 250m depth, γ-Proteobacteria was 44% of DAPI bound cells, while other groups were less than 1%. In conclusion, the bacterial community structures of free-living and aggregated bacteria were very different, and they sustain the independent ecosystem separately.Article信州大学山地水環境教育研究センター研究報告 2: 91-95(2004)departmental bulletin pape
Line Graphs of Weighted Networks for Overlapping Communities
In this paper, we develop the idea to partition the edges of a weighted graph
in order to uncover overlapping communities of its nodes. Our approach is based
on the construction of different types of weighted line graphs, i.e. graphs
whose nodes are the links of the original graph, that encapsulate differently
the relations between the edges. Weighted line graphs are argued to provide an
alternative, valuable representation of the system's topology, and are shown to
have important applications in community detection, as the usual node partition
of a line graph naturally leads to an edge partition of the original graph.
This identification allows us to use traditional partitioning methods in order
to address the long-standing problem of the detection of overlapping
communities. We apply it to the analysis of different social and geographical
networks.Comment: 8 Pages. New title and text revisions to emphasise differences from

Centrality dependence of charged particle production at large transverse momentum in Pb-Pb collisions at TeV
The inclusive transverse momentum () distributions of primary
charged particles are measured in the pseudo-rapidity range as a
function of event centrality in Pb-Pb collisions at
TeV with ALICE at the LHC. The data are presented in the range
GeV/ for nine centrality intervals from 70-80% to 0-5%.
The Pb-Pb spectra are presented in terms of the nuclear modification factor
using a pp reference spectrum measured at the same collision
energy. We observe that the suppression of high- particles strongly
depends on event centrality. In central collisions (0-5%) the yield is most
suppressed with at -7 GeV/. Above
GeV/, there is a significant rise in the nuclear modification
factor, which reaches for GeV/. In
peripheral collisions (70-80%), the suppression is weaker with almost independently of . The measured nuclear
modification factors are compared to other measurements and model calculations.Comment: 17 pages, 4 captioned figures, 2 tables, authors from page 12,

Anisotropic flow of charged hadrons, pions and (anti-)protons measured at high transverse momentum in Pb-Pb collisions at TeV
The elliptic, , triangular, , and quadrangular, , azimuthal
anisotropic flow coefficients are measured for unidentified charged particles,
pions and (anti-)protons in Pb-Pb collisions at TeV
with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Results obtained with the
event plane and four-particle cumulant methods are reported for the
pseudo-rapidity range at different collision centralities and as a
function of transverse momentum, , out to GeV/.
The observed non-zero elliptic and triangular flow depends only weakly on
transverse momentum for GeV/. The small dependence
of the difference between elliptic flow results obtained from the event plane
and four-particle cumulant methods suggests a common origin of flow
fluctuations up to GeV/. The magnitude of the (anti-)proton
elliptic and triangular flow is larger than that of pions out to at least
GeV/ indicating that the particle type dependence persists out
to high .Comment: 16 pages, 5 captioned figures, authors from page 11, published

Measurement of charm production at central rapidity in proton-proton collisions at TeV
The -differential production cross sections of the prompt (B
feed-down subtracted) charmed mesons D, D, and D in the rapidity
range , and for transverse momentum GeV/, were
measured in proton-proton collisions at TeV with the ALICE
detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The analysis exploited the hadronic
decays DK, DK, DD, and their charge conjugates, and was performed on a
nb event sample collected in 2011 with a
minimum-bias trigger. The total charm production cross section at TeV and at 7 TeV was evaluated by extrapolating to the full phase space
the -differential production cross sections at TeV
and our previous measurements at TeV. The results were compared
to existing measurements and to perturbative-QCD calculations. The fraction of
cdbar D mesons produced in a vector state was also determined.Comment: 20 pages, 5 captioned figures, 4 tables, authors from page 15,

Particle-yield modification in jet-like azimuthal di-hadron correlations in Pb-Pb collisions at = 2.76 TeV
The yield of charged particles associated with high- trigger
particles ( GeV/) is measured with the ALICE detector in
Pb-Pb collisions at = 2.76 TeV relative to proton-proton
collisions at the same energy. The conditional per-trigger yields are extracted
from the narrow jet-like correlation peaks in azimuthal di-hadron correlations.
In the 5% most central collisions, we observe that the yield of associated
charged particles with transverse momenta GeV/ on the
away-side drops to about 60% of that observed in pp collisions, while on the
near-side a moderate enhancement of 20-30% is found.Comment: 15 pages, 2 captioned figures, 1 table, authors from page 10,

Global surveillance of cancer survival 1995-2009: analysis of individual data for 25,676,887 patients from 279 population-based registries in 67 countries (CONCORD-2)
BACKGROUND:
Worldwide data for cancer survival are scarce. We aimed to initiate worldwide surveillance of cancer survival by central analysis of population-based registry data, as a metric of the effectiveness of health systems, and to inform global policy on cancer control.
METHODS:
Individual tumour records were submitted by 279 population-based cancer registries in 67 countries for 25·7 million adults (age 15-99 years) and 75,000 children (age 0-14 years) diagnosed with cancer during 1995-2009 and followed up to Dec 31, 2009, or later. We looked at cancers of the stomach, colon, rectum, liver, lung, breast (women), cervix, ovary, and prostate in adults, and adult and childhood leukaemia. Standardised quality control procedures were applied; errors were corrected by the registry concerned. We estimated 5-year net survival, adjusted for background mortality in every country or region by age (single year), sex, and calendar year, and by race or ethnic origin in some countries. Estimates were age-standardised with the International Cancer Survival Standard weights.
FINDINGS:
5-year survival from colon, rectal, and breast cancers has increased steadily in most developed countries. For patients diagnosed during 2005-09, survival for colon and rectal cancer reached 60% or more in 22 countries around the world; for breast cancer, 5-year survival rose to 85% or higher in 17 countries worldwide. Liver and lung cancer remain lethal in all nations: for both cancers, 5-year survival is below 20% everywhere in Europe, in the range 15-19% in North America, and as low as 7-9% in Mongolia and Thailand. Striking rises in 5-year survival from prostate cancer have occurred in many countries: survival rose by 10-20% between 1995-99 and 2005-09 in 22 countries in South America, Asia, and Europe, but survival still varies widely around the world, from less than 60% in Bulgaria and Thailand to 95% or more in Brazil, Puerto Rico, and the USA. For cervical cancer, national estimates of 5-year survival range from less than 50% to more than 70%; regional variations are much wider, and improvements between 1995-99 and 2005-09 have generally been slight. For women diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2005-09, 5-year survival was 40% or higher only in Ecuador, the USA, and 17 countries in Asia and Europe. 5-year survival for stomach cancer in 2005-09 was high (54-58%) in Japan and South Korea, compared with less than 40% in other countries. By contrast, 5-year survival from adult leukaemia in Japan and South Korea (18-23%) is lower than in most other countries. 5-year survival from childhood acute lymphoblastic leukaemia is less than 60% in several countries, but as high as 90% in Canada and four European countries, which suggests major deficiencies in the management of a largely curable disease.
INTERPRETATION:
International comparison of survival trends reveals very wide differences that are likely to be attributable to differences in access to early diagnosis and optimum treatment. Continuous worldwide surveillance of cancer survival should become an indispensable source of information for cancer patients and researchers and a stimulus for politicians to improve health policy and health-care systems
KK correlations in pp collisions at TeV from the LHC ALICE experiment
Identical neutral kaon pair correlations are measured in TeV pp
collisions in the ALICE experiment. One-dimensional KK correlation
functions in terms of the invariant momentum difference of kaon pairs are
formed in two multiplicity and two transverse momentum ranges. The femtoscopic
parameters for the radius and correlation strength of the kaon source are
extracted. The ft includes quantum statistics and final-state
interactions of the a/f resonance. KK correlations show an
increase in radius for increasing multiplicity and a slight decrease in radius
for increasing transverse mass, , as seen in correlations
in the pp system and in heavy-ion collisions. Transverse mass scaling is
observed between the KK and radii. Also, the frst
observation is made of the decay of the f(1525) meson into the
KK channel in pp collisions.Comment: 17 pages, 7 captioned figures, 2 tables, authors from page 12,
