Constrained Dynamics of the Coupled Abelian Two-Form
I present the reduction of phase space of the theory of an antisymmetric
tensor potential coupled to an abelian gauge field, using Dirac's procedure.
Duality transformations on the reduced phase space are also discussed.Comment: LA-UR-93-47
Spin Polarizabilities of the Nucleon from Polarized Low Energy Compton Scattering
As guideline for forthcoming experiments, we present predictions from Chiral
Effective Field Theory for polarized cross sections in low energy Compton
scattering for photon energies below 170 MeV, both on the proton and on the
neutron. Special interest is put on the role of the nucleon spin
polarizabilities which can be examined especially well in polarized Compton
scattering. We present a model-independent way to extract their energy
dependence and static values from experiment, interpreting our findings also in
terms of the low energy effective degrees of freedom inside the nucleon: The
polarizabilities are dominated by chiral dynamics from the pion cloud, except
for resonant multipoles, where contributions of the Delta(1232) resonance turn
out to be crucial. We therefore include it as an explicit degree of freedom. We
also identify some experimental settings which are particularly sensitive to
the spin polarizabilities.Comment: 30 pages, 19 figure
Monte-Carlo generator for e+e- annihilation into lepton and hadron pairs with precise radiative corrections
Recently, various cross sections of e+e- annihilation into hadrons were
accurately measured in the energy range from 0.37 to 1.39 GeV with the CMD-2
detector at the VEPP-2M collider. In the pi+pi- channel a systematic
uncertainty of 0.6% has been achieved. A Monte-Carlo Generator Photon Jets
(MCGPJ) was developed to simulate events of the Bhabha scattering as well as
production of two charged pions, kaons and muons. Based on the formalism of
Structure Functions, the leading logarithmic contributions related to the
emission of photon jets in the collinear region are incorporated into the MC
generator. Radiative corrections (RC) in the first order of alpha are accounted
for exactly. The theoretical precision of the cross sections with RC is
estimated to be better than 0.2%. Numerous tests of the program as well as
comparison with other MC generators and CMD-2 experimental data are presented.Comment: LaTeX, 23 pages with 18 figure
Signatures of Chiral Dynamics in Low Energy Compton Scattering off the Nucleon
We present a projector formalism which allows to define dynamical
polarizabilities of the nucleon from a multipole expansion of the nucleon
Compton amplitudes. We give predictions for the energy dependence of these
dynamical polarizabilities both from dispersion theory and from
leading-one-loop chiral effective field theory. Based on the good agreement
between the two theoretical frameworks, we conclude that the energy dependence
of the dynamical polarizabilities is dominated by chiral dynamics, except in
those multipole channels where the first nucleon resonance Delta(1232) can be
excited. Both the dispersion theory framework and a chiral effective field
theory with explicit Delta(1232) degrees of freedom lead to a very good
description of the available low energy proton Compton data. We discuss the
sensitivity of the proton Compton cross section to dynamical polarizabilities
of different multipole content and present a fit of the static electric and
magnetic dipole polarizabilities from low-energy Compton data up to omega=170
MeV, finding alpha_E=(11.04+-1.36)*10^(-4) fm^3, beta_M =(2.76-+1.36)*10^(-4)
fm^3.Comment: 43 pages, 13 figure
Ultrarelativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions and the quark-gluon plasma
We present an overview of selected aspects of ultrarelativistic
nucleus-nucleus collisions, a research program devoted to the study of strongly
interacting matter at high energy densities and in particular to the
characterization of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP). The basic features of the
phase diagram of nuclear matter, as currently understood theoretically, are
discussed. The experimental program, carried out over a broad energy domain at
various accelerators, is briefly reviewed, with an emphasis on the global
characterization of nucleus-nucleus collisions. Two particular aspects are
treated in more detail: i) the application of statistical models to a
phenomenological description of particle production and the information it
provides on the phase diagram; ii) the production of hadrons carrying charm
quarks as messengers from the QGP phase.Comment: Based on lectures given by P.Braun-Munzinger at the VIII Hispalensis

Two-pion Bose-Einstein correlations in central Pb-Pb collisions at = 2.76 TeV
The first measurement of two-pion Bose-Einstein correlations in central Pb-Pb
collisions at TeV at the Large Hadron Collider is
presented. We observe a growing trend with energy now not only for the
longitudinal and the outward but also for the sideward pion source radius. The
pion homogeneity volume and the decoupling time are significantly larger than
those measured at RHIC.Comment: 17 pages, 5 captioned figures, 1 table, authors from page 12,

Open and Hidden Charm Production in d Collisions at RHIC and LHC
We discuss aspects of open and hidden charm production in deuterium-nucleus
collisions at RHIC and LHC energies. We describe calculations of the total cross section and the charm quark transverse momentum distributions. We
next explain how shadowing and moderate nuclear absorption can explain the
PHENIX dAu/ ratios and predict the combined effect of shadowing
and absorption in 6.2 TeV d+Pb collisions.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, European Physics Journal conference proceedings

Additional Suppression from High Density Effects
At high energies the saturation effects associated to the high parton density
should modify the behavior of the observables in proton-nucleus and
nucleus-nucleus scattering. In this paper we investigate the saturation effects
in the nuclear production and estimate the modifications in the energy
dependence of the cross section as well as in the length of the nuclear medium.
In particular, we calculate the ratio of to Drell-Yan cross sections
and show that it is strongly modified if the high density effects are included.
Moreover, our results are compared with the data from the NA50 Collaboration
and predictions for the RHIC and LHC kinematic regions are presented. We
predict an additional suppression associated to the high density
effects.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures, version to be published in Eur. Phys. J.
