Aproximaciones temáticas de los estudios ambientales sobre la actividad artesanal: argumentos para su estudio en México
Artículo científicoLas diferentes vertientes que puede tomar el estudio de la actividad artesanal y su relación con el medio natural han representado un importante reto debido a la diversidad de pensamientos expresados, lo que conlleva un esfuerzo heurístico para identificar elementos explicativos que tuviesen puntos de encuentro suficientes y permitieran establecer una clasificación pertinente. La investigación tuvo como objetivo documentar las orientaciones temáticas que enmarcan los estudios ambientales de la actividad artesanal, esto mediante la revisión de distintas investigaciones que han abordado la relación entre artesanía y naturaleza. Para ello, se llevó a cabo un análisis crítico del acervo bibliográfico identificando las orientaciones temáticas. La indagación se realizó tras el estudio de artículos científicos publicados en revistas indizadas, durante el periodo 2007 a 2022 y disponibles en acceso abierto en idioma español, inglés y portugués; además se consideraron los siguientes criterios: tipo de investigación, objetivo de la contribución, enfoque metodológico, ámbito territorial, orientación temática y disciplinaria. Se identificaron cuatro grupos de aproximaciones temáticas: a) proceso de producción, acceso a materias primas, transformación y tecnologías; b) impacto de la producción sobre los recursos naturales; c) formas de organización social en el contexto local; d) comercialización y consumo en el mercado actual. Si bien es posible establecer una propuesta de clasificación de los estudios ambientales de las artesanías, se requiere una visión ampliada de la realidad que supere las perspectivas parcelarias, y se consideren los paradigmas propios de la complejidad como argumentos para su estudio en México.Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Méxic
Multi-Tubular Reactor for Hydrogen Production: CFD Thermal Design and Experimental Testing
This study presents the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) thermal design and
experimental tests results for a multi-tubular solar reactor for hydrogen production based on the ferrite
thermochemical cycle in a pilot plant in the Plataforma Solar de Almería (PSA). The methodology
followed for the solar reactor design is described, as well as the experimental tests carried out
during the testing campaign and characterization of the reactor. The CFD model developed for the
thermal design of the solar reactor has been validated against the experimental measurements, with
a temperature error ranging from 1% to around 10% depending on the location within the reactor.
The thermal balance in the reactor (cavity and tubes) has been also solved by the CFD model, showing
a 7.9% thermal efficiency of the reactor. CFD results also show the percentage of reacting media inside
the tubes which achieve the required temperature for the endothermic reaction process, with 90% of
the ferrite pellets inside the tubes above the required temperature of 900 C. The multi-tubular solar

IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-α gene polymorphisms in preeclampsia: a case-control study in a Mexican population
Objectives: We focused our study on examining the genotype and allele frequency of IL-6 (rs1800795), TNF-α (rs1800629) and IL-10 (rs1800872) single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) on preeclampsia (PE) diagnosed Mexican pregnant women. Material and methods: A case-control study was designed including 86 preeclampsia patients and 100 normotensives pregnancies from Women’s Hospital of Culiacan, Mexico. Genotyping of IL-6, TNF-α and IL-10 was performed using TaqMan SNP Genotyping. Results: Not significant association was found between development of PE and genotypic (p > 0.05) and allelic (p > 0.05) frequencies of IL-6, TNF-α and IL-10 SNPs. Genotype distributions of IL-6 (p = 0.599), TNF-α (p = 0.721) and IL-10 (p = 0.761) polymorphisms in the two groups were in agreement with Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium. Lung transplantation from uncontrolled and controlled donation after circulatory death: similar outcomes to brain death donors
Controlled donation after circulatory death donors (cDCD) are becoming a frequent source of lungs grafts worldwide. Conversely, lung transplantations (LTx) from uncontrolled donors (uDCD) are sporadically reported. We aimed to review our institutional experience using both uDCD and cDCD and compare to LTx from brain death donors (DBD). This is a retrospective analysis of all LTx performed between January 2013 and December 2019 in our institution. Donor and recipient characteristics were collected and univariate, multivariate and survival analyses were carried out comparing the three cohorts of donors. A total of 239 (84.7%) LTx were performed from DBD, 29 (10.3%) from cDCD and 14 (5%) from uDCD. There were no statistically significant differences in primary graft dysfunction grade 3 at 72 h, 30- and 90-day mortality, need for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation after procedure, ICU and hospital length of stay, airway complications, CLAD incidence or survival at 1 and 3 years after transplant (DBD: 87.1% and 78.1%; cDCD: 89.7% and 89.7%; uDCD: 85.7% and 85.7% respectively; P = 0.42). Short- and mid-term outcomes are comparable between the three types of donors. Organotypic 3D Cell-Architecture Impacts the Expression Pattern of miRNAs–mRNAs Network in Breast Cancer SKBR3 Cells
Background. Currently, most of the research on breast cancer has been carried out in conventional two-dimensional (2D) cell cultures due to its practical benefits, however, the three-dimensional (3D) cell culture is becoming the model of choice in cancer research because it allows cell–cell and cell–extracellular matrix (ECM) interactions, mimicking the native microenvironment of tumors in vivo. Methods. In this work, we evaluated the effect of 3D cell organization on the expression pattern of miRNAs (by Small-RNAseq) and mRNAs (by microarrays) in the breast cancer SKBR3 cell line and analyzed the biological processes and signaling pathways regulated by the differentially expressed protein-coding genes (DE-mRNAs) and miRNAs (DE-microRNAs) found in the organoids. Results. We obtained well-defined cell-aggregated organoids with a grape cluster-like morphology with a size up to 9.2 × 105 μm3. The transcriptomic assays showed that cell growth in organoids significantly affected (all p < 0.01) the gene expression patterns of both miRNAs, and mRNAs, finding 20 upregulated and 19 downregulated DE-microRNAs, as well as 49 upregulated and 123 downregulated DE-mRNAs. In silico analysis showed that a subset of 11 upregulated DE-microRNAs target 70 downregulated DE-mRNAs. These genes are involved in 150 gene ontology (GO) biological processes such as regulation of cell morphogenesis, regulation of cell shape, regulation of canonical Wnt signaling pathway, morphogenesis of epithelium, regulation of cytoskeleton organization, as well as in the MAPK and AGE–RAGE signaling KEGG-pathways. Interestingly, hsa-mir-122-5p (Fold Change (FC) = 15.4), hsa-mir-369-3p (FC = 11.4), and hsa-mir-10b-5p (FC = 20.1) regulated up to 81% of the 70 downregulated DE-mRNAs. Conclusion. The organotypic 3D cell-organization architecture of breast cancer SKBR3 cells impacts the expression pattern of the miRNAs–mRNAs network mainly through overexpression of hsa-mir-122-5p, hsa-mir-369-3p, and hsa-mir-10b-5p. All these findings suggest that the interaction between cell–cell and cell–ECM as well as the change in the culture architecture impacts gene expression, and, therefore, support the pertinence of migrating breast cancer research from conventional cultures to 3D models
Breakthrough invasive fungal infection among patients with haematologic malignancies: A national, prospective, and multicentre study
Objectives: We describe the current epidemiology, causes, and outcomes of breakthrough invasive fungal infections (BtIFI) in patients with haematologic malignancies.Methods: BtIFI in patients with & GE; 7 days of prior antifungals were prospectively diagnosed (36 months across 13 Spanish hospitals) according to revised EORTC/MSG definitions.Results: 121 episodes of BtIFI were documented, of which 41 (33.9%) were proven; 53 (43.8%), probable; and 27 (22.3%), possible. The most frequent prior antifungals included posaconazole (32.2%), echinocandins (28.9%) and fluconazole (24.8%)-mainly for primary prophylaxis (81%). The most common haematologic malignancy was acute leukaemia (64.5%), and 59 (48.8%) patients had undergone a hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation. Invasive aspergillosis, principally caused by non-fumigatus Aspergillus, was the most fre-quent BtIFI with 55 (45.5%) episodes recorded, followed by candidemia (23, 19%), mucormycosis (7, 5.8%), other moulds (6, 5%) and other yeasts (5, 4.1%). Azole resistance/non-susceptibility was commonly found. Prior antifungal therapy widely determined BtIFI epidemiology. The most common cause of BtIFI in proven and probable cases was the lack of activity of the prior antifungal (63, 67.0%). At diagnosis, antifungal therapy was mostly changed (90.9%), mainly to liposomal amphotericin-B (48.8%). Overall, 10 0-day mor-tality was 47.1%; BtIFI was either the cause or an essential contributing factor to death in 61.4% of cases.Conclusions: BtIFI are mainly caused by non-fumigatus Aspergillus, non-albicans Candida, Mucorales and other rare species of mould and yeast. Prior antifungals determine the epidemiology of BtIFI. The exceed-ingly high mortality due to BtIFI warrants an aggressive diagnostic approach and early initiation of broad-spectrum antifungals different than those previously used.& COPY; 2023 The Author(s). Safety and effectiveness of isavuconazole in real-life non-neutropenic patients
Objectives: Information is scarce on clinical experiences with non-neutropenic patients with invasive fungal infection (IFI) receiving isavuconazole. We aimed to report the safety and effectiveness of this drug as a first-line treatment or rescue in real life. Methods: A retrospective, observational multicentric study of non-neutropenic patients who received isavuconazole as an IFI treatment at 12 different university hospitals (January 2018-2022). All patients met criteria for proven, probable or possible IFI according to EORTC-MSG. Results: A total of 238 IFIs were treated with isavuconazole during the study period. Combination therapy was administered in 27.7% of cases. The primary IFI was aspergillosis (217, 91.2%). Other IFIs treated with isavuconazole were candidemia (n = 10), mucormycosis (n = 8), histoplasmosis (n = 2), cryptococcosis (n = 2), and others (n = 4). Median time of isavuconazole treatment was 29 days. Only 5.9% (n = 14) of cases developed toxicity, mainly hepatic-related (10 patients, 4.2%). Nine patients (3.8%) had treatment withdrawn. Successful clinical response at 12 weeks was documented in 50.5% of patients. Conclusion: Isavuconazole is an adequate treatment for non-neutropenic patients with IFIs. Toxicity rates were low and its effectiveness was comparable to other antifungal therapies previously reported. (c) 2024 The Authors. DESI mock challenge: constructing DESI galaxy catalogues based on FastPM simulations
Together with larger spectroscopic surveys such as the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), the precision of large scale structure studies and thus the constraints on the cosmological parameters are rapidly improving. Therefore, one must buildrealistic simulations and robust covariance matrices. We build galaxy catalogues by applying a halo occupation distribution(HOD) model upon the FASTPM simulations, such that the resulting galaxy clustering reproduces high-resolution N-bodysimulations. While the resolution and halo finder are different from the reference simulations, we reproduce the reference galaxytwo-point clustering measurements – monopole and quadrupole – to a precision required by the DESI Year 1 emission line galaxysample down to non-linear scales, i.e. k 10 Mpc h−1. Furthermore, we compute covariance matrices basedon the resulting FASTPM galaxy clustering – monopole and quadrupole. We study for the first time the effect of fitting on Fourierconjugate (e.g. power spectrum) on the covariance matrix of the Fourier counterpart (e.g. correlation function). We estimate theuncertainties of the two parameters of a simple clustering model and observe a maximum variation of 20 per cent for the differentcovariance matrices. Nevertheless, for most studied scales the scatter is between 2 and 10 per cent. Consequently, using thecurrent pipeline we can precisely reproduce the clustering of N-body simulations and the resulting covariance matrices providerobust uncertainty estimations against HOD fitting scenarios. We expect our methodology will be useful for the coming DESIdata analyses and their extension for other studies

Juxtaposing BTE and ATE – on the role of the European insurance industry in funding civil litigation
One of the ways in which legal services are financed, and indeed shaped, is through private insurance arrangement. Two contrasting types of legal expenses insurance contracts (LEI) seem to dominate in Europe: before the event (BTE) and after the event (ATE) legal expenses insurance. Notwithstanding institutional differences between different legal systems, BTE and ATE insurance arrangements may be instrumental if government policy is geared towards strengthening a market-oriented system of financing access to justice for individuals and business. At the same time, emphasizing the role of a private industry as a keeper of the gates to justice raises issues of accountability and transparency, not readily reconcilable with demands of competition. Moreover, multiple actors (clients, lawyers, courts, insurers) are involved, causing behavioural dynamics which are not easily predicted or influenced.
Against this background, this paper looks into BTE and ATE arrangements by analysing the particularities of BTE and ATE arrangements currently available in some European jurisdictions and by painting a picture of their respective markets and legal contexts. This allows for some reflection on the performance of BTE and ATE providers as both financiers and keepers. Two issues emerge from the analysis that are worthy of some further reflection. Firstly, there is the problematic long-term sustainability of some ATE products. Secondly, the challenges faced by policymakers that would like to nudge consumers into voluntarily taking out BTE LEI
