Early afterdepolarisations and ventricular arrhythmias in cardiac tissue: a computational study

Afterdepolarisations are associated with arrhythmias in the heart, but are difficult to study experimentally. In this study we used a simplified computational model of 1D and 2D cardiac ventricular tissue, where we could control the size of the region generating afterdepolarisations, as well as the properties of the afterdepolarisation waveform. Provided the size of the afterdepolarisation region was greater than around 1 mm, propagating extrasystoles were produced in both 1D and 2D. The number of extrasystoles produced depended on the amplitude, period, and duration of the oscillatory EAD waveform. In 2D, re-entry was also initiated for specific combinations of EAD amplitude, period, and duration, with the afterdepolarisation region acting as a common pathway. The main finding from this modelling study is therefore that afterdepolarisations can act as potent sources of propagating extrasystoles, as well as a source of re-entrant activation

Scenario-based serious games repurposing

Serious games are very content-rich forms of educational media, often combining high fidelity visual and audio content with diverse pedagogic approaches. This paper introduces scenario-based serious games repurposing and demonstrates repurposing a serious game into new learning objects. The process uses the scenario editor called "mEditor". Two case studies based on the Happy Night Club serious game are presented. The article describes exploratory work which continues the work that started within the mEducator project regarding repurposing serious games in order to enable their use and reuse in the same or different educational contexts

Eficiencia del amonio cuaternario y el proxitane 1512 en el control de enterobacterias en las superficies del mercado Mega Plaza Santa Clara, Lima 2022

La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar la eficiencia del amonio cuaternario y el proxitane 1512 en el control de enterobacterias en las superficies del mercado Mega Plaza Santa Clara, Lima 2022. La presente investigación fue de enfoque cuantitativo, tipo aplicada, diseño experimental y transversal. La muestra corresponde a las superficies de 140 muestras en los 5 puestos representativos del mercado de Mega Plaza, Santa Clara. Los resultados obtenidos mostraron que la eficiencia en superficies con los desinfectantes de amonio cuaternario en el puesto de abarrotes y en el baño se obtuvo un 99.9% y 46.15% respectivamente; asimismo, la eficiencia del proxitane 1512 en el puesto de pollo y pescado se obtuvo un 99.9% y 87.86%; por otro lado, se tomó un puesto como caso control donde no se aplicó ningún desinfectante. Se concluye que la contaminación biológica de aire y actividad humana son las principales causas de traslado de enterobacterias hacia las superficies, por la que las frecuencias de desinfecciones realizadas con el amonio cuaternario y el proxitane 1512 tienen una activación química de 264 horas a baja cantidad de enterobacterias y a mayor cantidad de enterobacterias el proxitane 1512 tiene una activación química de 72 horas

Implementación de un plan de mantenimiento preventivo para aumentar la disponibilidad de tractores en la Empresa Agroberries Perú S.A.C., Virú 2022

La presente investigación desarrollada tuvo como objetivo determinar la incidencia de un plan de mantenimiento preventivo para aumentar la disponibilidad de tractores en la empresa Agroberries Perú SAC, Virú 2022. El tipo de diseño de investigación fue pre-experimental y de nivel explicativo. Se usó como técnicas el análisis documental y la observación. La metodología usada correspondió al Mantenimiento Productivo Total (TPM) con el desarrollo de las fases que comprende. Entre los resultados, que logró esta investigación tenemos el aumento de la disponibilidad en 7.31%, pasando de 89.64% antes del desarrollo de la gestión de mantenimiento y llegando a 94.94% posterior a las mejores aplicadas; así mismo el MTBF mejoró en 35.49, se redujo el MTTR en 1.48 en y la confiabilidad aumentó en 0.07, Esto significa como conclusión que: la implementación de un plan de mantenimiento preventivo aumenta la disponibilidad de tractores en la empresa Agroberries Perú SAC, Virú 2022

Implications of the Turing completeness of reaction-diffusion models, informed by GPGPU simulations on an XBox 360: Cardiac arrhythmias, re-entry and the Halting problem

In the arsenal of tools that a computational modeller can bring to bare on the study of cardiac arrhythmias, the most widely used and arguably the most successful is that of an excitable medium, a special case of a reaction-diffusion model. These are used to simulate the internal chemical reactions of a cardiac cell and the diffusion of their membrane voltages. Via a number of different methodologies it has previously been shown that reaction-diffusion systems are at multiple levels Turing complete. That is, they are capable of computation in the same manner as a universal Turing machine. However, all such computational systems are subject to a limitation known as the Halting problem. By constructing a universal logic gate using a cardiac cell model, we highlight how the Halting problem therefore could limit what it is possible to predict about cardiac tissue, arrhythmias and re-entry. All simulations for this work were carried out on the GPU of an XBox 360 development console, and we also highlight the great gains in computational power and efficiency produced by such general purpose processing on a GPU for cardiac simulations

Implementación de un sistema de gestión de seguridad y salud en el trabajo para reducir los riesgos laborales en la empresa JRC Vidrios y Aluminios, en el año 2023

La implementación de un Sistema de Gestión de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo para minimizar los riesgos laborales en la división de fabricación de ventanas de JRC Vidrios y Aluminios fue el objetivo del presente trabajo de Suficiencia Profesional. La inexistencia de un sistema de gestión de la seguridad en el trabajo se infirió del hecho de que el personal no disponía de sus equipos de seguridad o EPI antes del inicio de los trabajos y que simultáneamente se producían incidencias. Como consecuencia de la observación, se elaboró un diagrama de Ishikawa para identificar con mayor detalle los problemas observados, revelando un 9,60% de incumplimiento de las normas de seguridad en el trabajo. La matriz IPERC se utilizó para identificar los peligros a los que estaban expuestos los empleados en cada área mediante la implementación de medidas de control, incluidos seis formatos y tres procedimientos que respaldan el SST y reducen los riesgos. Se logró comparar los años 2021, 2022 y la proyección para el 2023, generando una TIR de 23.55% para una inversión viable, debido a la aplicación de los indicadores de frecuencia, severidad y siniestralidad, lo que permitió verificar la siniestralidad. -gastos relacionados

Unraveling the temperature dependence of the yield strength in single-crystal tungsten using atomistically-informed crystal plasticity calculations

We use a physically-based crystal plasticity model to predict the yield strength of body-centered cubic (bcc) tungsten single crystals subjected to uniaxial loading. Our model captures the thermally-activated character of screw dislocation motion and full non-Schmid effects, both of which are known to play a critical role in bcc plasticity. The model uses atomistic calculations as the sole source of constitutive information, with no parameter fitting of any kind to experimental data. Our results are in excellent agreement with experimental measurements of the yield stress as a function of temperature for a number of loading orientations. The validated methodology is then employed to calculate the temperature and strain-rate dependence of the yield strength for 231 crystallographic orientations within the standard stereographic triangle. We extract the strain-rate sensitivity of W crystals at different temperatures, and finish with the calculation of yield surfaces under biaxial loading conditions that can be used to define effective yield criteria for engineering design models

E-commerce transactions in a virtual environment: Virtual transactions

E-commerce is a fundamental method of doing business, such that for a firm to say it is trading at all in the modern market-place it must have some element of on-line presence. Coupled with this is the explosion of the "population" of Massively Multiplayer On-line Role Playing Games and other shared virtual environments. Many suggest this will lead to a further dimension of commerce: virtual commerce. We discuss here the issues, current roadblocks and present state of an e-commerce transaction carried out completely within a virtual environment; a virtual transaction. Although technically such transactions are in a sense trivial, they raise many other issues in complex ways thus making V-transactions a highly interesting cross-disciplinary issue. We also discuss the social, ethical and regulatory implications for the virtual communities in these environments of such v-transactions, how their implementation affects the nature and management of a virtual environment, and how they represent a fundamental merging of the real and virtual worlds for the purpose of commerce. We highlight the minimal set of features a v-transaction capable virtual environment requires and suggest a model of how in the medium term they could be carried out via a methodology we call click-through, and that the developers of such environments will need to take on the multi-modal behavior of their users, as well as elements of the economic and political sciences in order to fully realize the commercial potential of the v-transaction. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC
