[Abstract] A high throughput trickling biofilter for odour control was designed basing on the principles of biotrickling filter technology developed in Moscow Bakh Institute of Biochemistry. All the necessary blocks except a fan: temperature and humidity control unit, a biofilter bed, an irrigation system, a control block and display unit are combined within one compact biofiltration module – a standard container 6000x2400x2400 mm. The plant is thermo-insulated that enables outdoor installation. The biofilter is easily scaled up by adding extra filtration beds. A typical biofiltration module rated for 5,000-10,000 m3/h has a contact time of 3-6 s (biofilter bed total volume – 10.5 m3) and a maximum footprint of 14.5 m2. After extensive pilot plant studies the first 5000 m3/h trickling biofilter easily scalable to 20000 m3/h was installed at Moscow Water Works in spring 2007 to control odour emissions - hydrogen sulfide, mercaptanes and other malodorous volatile organic compounds in up to 60 mg/m3 concentration. The performance results of the industrial biofilter are discusse

Experimental evaluation of compressibility coefficients for fractures and intergranular pores of an oil and gas reservoir

The paper is devoted to studies of the volumetric response of rocks caused by changes in their stress state. Changes in the volume of fracture and intergranular components of the pore space based on measurements of the volume of pore fluid extruded from a rock sample with an increase in its  all-round compression have been experimentally obtained and analyzed.  Determination of the fracture and intergranular porosity components is based on the authors' earlier proposed method of their calculation using the values of longitudinal wave velocity and total porosity. The results of experimental and analytical studies of changes in porosity and its two components (intergranular and fractured) under the action of effective stresses are considered. This approach allowed the authors to estimate the magnitude  of the range of changes in the volumetric compressibility of both intergranular pores and fractures in a representative collection of 37 samples of the Vendian-age sand reservoir of the Chayanda field. The method of separate estimation of the compressibility coefficients of fractures and intergranular pores is proposed, their values and dependence on the effective pressure are experimentally obtained. It is determined that the knowledge of the values of fracture and intergranular porosity volumetric compressibility will increase the reliability of estimates of changes in petrophysical parameters of oil and gas reservoirs caused by changes in the stress state during the development of hydrocarbon fields

Comparison of the approaches to assessing the compressibility of the pore space

    Get PDF
Integral and differential approaches to determining the volumetric compression of rocks caused by changes in the stress state are considered. Changes in the volume of the pore space of rocks are analyzed with an increase in its all-round compression. Estimation of changes in the compressibility coefficients of reservoirs due to the development of fields is an urgent problem, since the spread in the values of compressibility factors reduces the adequacy of estimates of changes in the physical properties and subsidence of the earth's surface of developed fields and underground gas storages. This parameter is key in assessing the geodynamic consequences of the long-term development of hydrocarbon deposits and the operation of underground gas storage facilities. Approaches to the assessment differ in the use of cumulative (integral) or local (differential) changes in porosity with a change in effective pressure. It is shown that the coefficient of volumetric compressibility of pores calculated by the integral approach significantly exceeds its value calculated by the differential approach, which is due to the accumulative nature of pore compression with an increase in effective pressure. It is shown that the differential approach more accurately determines the value of the pore compressibility coefficient, since it takes into account in more detail the features of the change in effective pressure

ENHANCED LOW DOSE RATE SENSITIVITY (ELDRS) AND REDUCED LOW DOSE RATE SENSITIVITY (RLDRS) IN BIPOLAR DEVICES

    Get PDF
Possible physical mechanism of enhanced low dose rate sensitivity (ELDRS) and reduced low dose rate sensitivity (RLDRS)in bipolar devices is described. Modification of the low dose rate conversion model is presented. The enhanced or reduced sensitivity can be connected with a specific position of the effective Fermi level relatively acceptor and donor radiation-induced interface traps. The qualitative and quantitative analysis of the low dose rate effects is presented. The effect of the oxide trapped charge on the value of the oxide electric field and the yield of the oxide charge were taken into account. It leads to dependence of the accumulation of radiation-induced oxide charge and interface traps on the dose rate. In enhancement version the ELDRS and RLDRS conversion model describes the low dose rate effect in as “true” dose rate effect

Evaluation of thermal properties of insulation systems in pitched roofs

    Get PDF
The article outlines the basic requirements for pitched roof insulation systems. The analysis of the properties of thermal insulation materials used in insulation systems was conducted. It is substantiated that the thermal resistance of such structures on the surface of the roof is formed taking into account the thermal conductivity of thermal insulation, thermal conductivity of wooden rafters and heat loss through the leakiness of joints and mounting devices. An assessment was made of the effect of loads of various types on the heat-insulating layer, namely: the effect of the air flow in the ventilated gap; the movement of the vapor-air mixture in the material; condensation of water vapor and penetration of drip liquid; exfiltration of air at the joints of the plates and on the surfaces of contact with the supporting structures. The expediency of using products on the basis of unstitched polyethylene foam in the construction of pitched roofs with a wooden roof system, taking into account the advantages and features of this material, as well as taking into account the possibility of creating a seamless insulating shell, is substantiated

Differential cross section measurements for the production of a W boson in association with jets in proton–proton collisions at √s = 7 TeV

Measurements are reported of differential cross sections for the production of a W boson, which decays into a muon and a neutrino, in association with jets, as a function of several variables, including the transverse momenta (pT) and pseudorapidities of the four leading jets, the scalar sum of jet transverse momenta (HT), and the difference in azimuthal angle between the directions of each jet and the muon. The data sample of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV was collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb[superscript −1]. The measured cross sections are compared to predictions from Monte Carlo generators, MadGraph + pythia and sherpa, and to next-to-leading-order calculations from BlackHat + sherpa. The differential cross sections are found to be in agreement with the predictions, apart from the pT distributions of the leading jets at high pT values, the distributions of the HT at high-HT and low jet multiplicity, and the distribution of the difference in azimuthal angle between the leading jet and the muon at low values.United States. Risk portfolio on modern finance has become increasingly technical, requiring the use of sophisticated mathematical tools in both research and practice. Since companies cannot insure themselves completely against risk, as human incompetence in predicting the future precisely that written in Al-Quran surah Luqman verse 34, they have to manage it to yield an optimal portfolio. The objective here is to minimize the variance among all portfolios, or alternatively, to maximize expected return among all portfolios that has at least a certain expected return. Furthermore, this study focuses on optimizing risk portfolio so called Markowitz MVO (Mean-Variance Optimization). Some theoretical frameworks for analysis are arithmetic mean, geometric mean, variance, covariance, linear programming, and quadratic programming. Moreover, finding a minimum variance portfolio produces a convex quadratic programming, that is minimizing the objective function ðð¥with constraintsð ð 𥠥 ðandð´ð¥ = ð. The outcome of this research is the solution of optimal risk portofolio in some investments that could be finished smoothly using MATLAB R2007b software together with its graphic analysis
