The present work analyses the wireless sensor network protocol (DARP) and the impact of different configuration parameter sets on its performance. Different scenarios have been considered, in order to gain a better understanding of the influence of the configuration on network protocols. The developed statistical analysis is based on the method known as Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), which focuses on the effect of the configuration on the performance of DARP. Three main dependent variables were considered: number of control messages sent during the set-up time, energy consumption and convergence time. A total of 20,413 simulations were carried out to ensure greater robustness in the statistical conclusions. The main goal of this work is to discover the most critical configuration parameters for the protocol, with a view to potential applications in Smart City type scenarios. This work was partially supported by project TIN2015-71873-R (MINECO/FEDER) and TIN2015-67020-P (Spanish “Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad” and European Regional Development Funds (ERDF))

Intelligent system based on genetic programming for atrial fibrillation classification

    Get PDF
This article focuses on the development of intelligent classifiers in the area of biomedicine, focusing on the problem of diagnosing cardiac diseases based on the electrocardiogram (ECG), or more precisely, on the differentiation of the types of atrial fibrillations. First of all, we will study the ECG, and the treatment of the ECG in order to work with it with this specific pathology. In order to achieve this we will study different ways of elimination, in the best possible way, of any activity that is not caused by the auriculars. We will study and imitate the ECG treatment methodologies and the characteristics extracted from the electrocardiograms that were used by the researchers who obtained the best results in the Physionet Challenge, where the classification of ECG recordings according to the type of atrial fibrillation (AF) that they showed, was realized. We will extract a great amount of characteristics, partly those used by these researchers and additional characteristics that we consider to be important for the distinction previously mentioned. A new method based on evolutionary algorithms will be used to realize a selection of the most relevant characteristics and to obtain a classifier that will be capable of distinguishing the different types of this pathology

Thus, it must be understood that the theory of sustainable development proposed in conjunction with political ecology is not enough to define the situation, taking into account the economic implications that this may come to cover, in addition to considering that the social and economic environmental factors facilitate their classification. It is also necessary to highlight that the legal order falls short when establishing mechanisms for the protection of paramo ecosystems. This is affirmed after having enumerated each and every one of the normative dispositions that treat on the subject, besides the legal antecedents shown through the compilation of the Colombian public mining policy, which are null as far as protection of páramos. Therefore, it is confirmed that the Colombian mining policy has flaws, not only in its approach but also in its regulation and execution. The failures of the Colombian policy approach lie in the application of the theory of sustainable development, a theory that may not be enough to deal with the issue of extractive mining, taking into account that it is based on the economic sphere and environmental care postulates can be taken as insufficient. There are also serious failures in terms of communication between the state entities that create, apply and regulate the Colombian mining policy. The policy proposed by the Ministry considers that the jurisprudence generates legal uncertainty and the laws regulating the application of the policies do not apply as expected. In addition, the document highlights the lack of updating of Land Management Plans, in terms of land use, taking into account that in this way it is easier to determine what land is favorable for extractive activit

Background and purpose Limited information is available on incidence and outcomes of COVID-19 in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). This study investigated the risks of SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19-related outcomes in patients with MS, and compared these with the general population. Methods A regional registry was created to collect data on incidence, hospitalization rates, intensive care unit admission, and death in patients with MS and COVID-19. National government outcomes and seroprevalence data were used for comparison. The study was conducted at 14 specialist MS treatment centers in Madrid, Spain, between February and May 2020. Results Two-hundred nineteen patients were included in the registry, 51 of whom were hospitalized with COVID-19. The mean age ± standard deviation was 45.3 ± 12.4 years, and the mean duration of MS was 11.9 ± 8.9 years. The infection incidence rate was lower in patients with MS than the general population (adjusted incidence rate ratio = 0.78, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.70–0.80), but hospitalization rates were higher (relative risk = 5.03, 95% CI = 3.76–6.62). Disease severity was generally low, with only one admission to an intensive care unit and five deaths. Males with MS had higher incidence rates and risk of hospitalization than females. No association was found between the use of any disease-modifying treatment and hospitalization risk. Conclusions Patients with MS do not appear to have greater risks of SARS-CoV-2 infection or severe COVID-19 outcomes compared with the general population. The decision to start or continue disease-modifying treatment should be based on a careful risk–benefit assessment.post-print996 K

The Fourteenth Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey: First Spectroscopic Data from the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey and from the second phase of the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment

    Get PDF
The fourth generation of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-IV) has been in operation since July 2014. This paper describes the second data release from this phase, and the fourteenth from SDSS overall (making this, Data Release Fourteen or DR14). This release makes public data taken by SDSS-IV in its first two years of operation (July 2014-2016). Like all previous SDSS releases, DR14 is cumulative, including the most recent reductions and calibrations of all data taken by SDSS since the first phase began operations in 2000. New in DR14 is the first public release of data from the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS); the first data from the second phase of the Apache Point Observatory (APO) Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE-2), including stellar parameter estimates from an innovative data driven machine learning algorithm known as "The Cannon"; and almost twice as many data cubes from the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at APO (MaNGA) survey as were in the previous release (N = 2812 in total). This paper describes the location and format of the publicly available data from SDSS-IV surveys. We provide references to the important technical papers describing how these data have been taken (both targeting and observation details) and processed for scientific use. The SDSS website (www.sdss.org) has been updated for this release, and provides links to data downloads, as well as tutorials and examples of data use. SDSS-IV is planning to continue to collect astronomical data until 2020, and will be followed by SDSS-V.Comment: SDSS-IV collaboration alphabetical author data release paper. DR14 happened on 31st July 2017. 19 pages, 5 figures. Accepted by ApJS on 28th Nov 2017 (this is the "post-print" and "post-proofs" version; minor corrections only from v1, and most of errors found in proofs corrected

PERSPECTIVA PSICOSOCIAL DE LOS DERECHOS HUMANOS

    Get PDF
