Existence of families of spacetimes with a Newtonian limit
J\"urgen Ehlers developed \emph{frame theory} to better understand the
relationship between general relativity and Newtonian gravity. Frame theory
contains a parameter , which can be thought of as , where
is the speed of light. By construction, frame theory is equivalent to general
relativity for , and reduces to Newtonian gravity for .
Moreover, by setting \ep=\sqrt{\lambda}, frame theory provides a framework to
study the Newtonian limit \ep \searrow 0 (i.e. ). A number of
ideas relating to frame theory that were introduced by J\"urgen have
subsequently found important applications to the rigorous study of both the
Newtonian limit and post-Newtonian expansions. In this article, we review frame
theory and discuss, in a non-technical fashion, some of the rigorous results on
the Newtonian limit and post-Newtonian expansions that have followed from
J\"urgen's work
Cosmological post-Newtonian expansions to arbitrary order
We prove the existence of a large class of one parameter families of
solutions to the Einstein-Euler equations that depend on the singular parameter
\ep=v_T/c (0<\ep < \ep_0), where is the speed of light, and is a
typical speed of the gravitating fluid. These solutions are shown to exist on a
common spacetime slab M\cong [0,T)\times \Tbb^3, and converge as \ep
\searrow 0 to a solution of the cosmological Poisson-Euler equations of
Newtonian gravity. Moreover, we establish that these solutions can be expanded
in the parameter \ep to any specified order with expansion coefficients that
satisfy \ep-independent (nonlocal) symmetric hyperbolic equations
Transformation of in-plane in at fixed oxygen content
This paper reveals the origin of variation in the magnitude and temperature
dependence of the normal state resistivity frequently observed in different
YBCO single crystal or thin film samples with the same . We investigated
temperature dependence of resistivity in thin films
with 7- and 6.90, which were subjected to annealing in argon at
400-420 K (). Before annealing these films exhibited a non-linear
, with a flattening below 230 K, similar to and
observed in untwinned and twinned YBCO crystals, respectively.
For all films the annealing causes an increase of resistivity and a
transformation of from a non-linear dependence towards a more
linear one (less flattening). In films with 7- the increase of
resistivity is also associated with an increase in . We proposed the
model that provides an explanation of these phenomena in terms of thermally
activated redistribution of residual O(5) oxygens in the chain-layer of YBCO.
Good agreement between the experimental data for , where t is

Video-based Simulations: Considerations for Teaching Students with Developmental Disabilities
The use of video-based multimedia simulations for teaching functional skills to persons with developmental disabilities remains an unexplored application of technology for this group. This article examines the historical literature in this area, and discusses future considerations, design issues, and implications of using multimedia simulations. Implementation issues are presented, and suggestions regarding design, development, and application of multimedia simulations are offered. Post-Newtonian expansions for perfect fluids
We prove the existence of a large class of dynamical solutions to the
Einstein-Euler equations that have a first post-Newtonian expansion. The
results here are based on the elliptic-hyperbolic formulation of the
Einstein-Euler equations used in \cite{Oli06}, which contains a singular
parameter \ep = v_T/c, where is a characteristic velocity associated
with the fluid and is the speed of light. As in \cite{Oli06}, energy
estimates on weighted Sobolev spaces are used to analyze the behavior of
solutions to the Einstein-Euler equations in the limit \ep\searrow 0, and to
demonstrate the validity of the first post-Newtonian expansion as an
approximation
Anisotropic flow of charged hadrons, pions and (anti-)protons measured at high transverse momentum in Pb-Pb collisions at TeV
The elliptic, , triangular, , and quadrangular, , azimuthal
anisotropic flow coefficients are measured for unidentified charged particles,
pions and (anti-)protons in Pb-Pb collisions at TeV
with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Results obtained with the
event plane and four-particle cumulant methods are reported for the
pseudo-rapidity range at different collision centralities and as a
function of transverse momentum, , out to GeV/.
The observed non-zero elliptic and triangular flow depends only weakly on
transverse momentum for GeV/. The small dependence
of the difference between elliptic flow results obtained from the event plane
and four-particle cumulant methods suggests a common origin of flow
fluctuations up to GeV/. The magnitude of the (anti-)proton
elliptic and triangular flow is larger than that of pions out to at least
GeV/ indicating that the particle type dependence persists out

Centrality dependence of charged particle production at large transverse momentum in Pb-Pb collisions at TeV
The inclusive transverse momentum () distributions of primary
charged particles are measured in the pseudo-rapidity range as a
function of event centrality in Pb-Pb collisions at
TeV with ALICE at the LHC. The data are presented in the range
GeV/ for nine centrality intervals from 70-80% to 0-5%.
The Pb-Pb spectra are presented in terms of the nuclear modification factor
using a pp reference spectrum measured at the same collision
energy. We observe that the suppression of high- particles strongly
depends on event centrality. In central collisions (0-5%) the yield is most
suppressed with at -7 GeV/. Above
GeV/, there is a significant rise in the nuclear modification
factor, which reaches for GeV/. In
peripheral collisions (70-80%), the suppression is weaker with almost independently of . The measured nuclear

Genome-wide association study of heart rate and its variability in Hispanic/Latino cohorts
Background Although time–domain measures of heart rate variability (HRV) are used to estimate cardiac autonomic tone and disease risk in multiethnic populations, the genetic epidemiology of HRV in Hispanics/Latinos has not been characterized. Objective The purpose of this study was to conduct a genome-wide association study of heart rate (HR) and its variability in the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos, Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis, and Women's Health Initiative Hispanic SNP-Health Association Resource project (n = 13,767). Methods We estimated HR (bpm), standard deviation of normal-to-normal interbeat intervals (SDNN, ms), and root mean squared difference in successive, normal-to-normal interbeat intervals (RMSSD, ms) from resting, standard 12-lead ECGs. We estimated associations between each phenotype and 17 million genotyped or imputed single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), accounting for relatedness and adjusting for age, sex, study site, and ancestry. Cohort-specific estimates were combined using fixed-effects, inverse-variance meta-analysis. We investigated replication for select SNPs exceeding genome-wide (P <5 × 10–8) or suggestive (P <10–6) significance thresholds. Results Two genome-wide significant SNPs replicated in a European ancestry cohort, 1 one for RMSSD (rs4963772; chromosome 12) and another for SDNN (rs12982903; chromosome 19). A suggestive SNP for HR (rs236352; chromosome 6) replicated in an African-American cohort. Functional annotation of replicated SNPs in cardiac and neuronal tissues identified potentially causal variants and mechanisms. Conclusion This first genome-wide association study of HRV and HR in Hispanics/Latinos underscores the potential for even modestly sized samples of non-European ancestry to inform the genetic epidemiology of complex traits
Measurement of charm production at central rapidity in proton-proton collisions at TeV
The -differential production cross sections of the prompt (B
feed-down subtracted) charmed mesons D, D, and D in the rapidity
range , and for transverse momentum GeV/, were
measured in proton-proton collisions at TeV with the ALICE
detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The analysis exploited the hadronic
decays DK, DK, DD, and their charge conjugates, and was performed on a
nb event sample collected in 2011 with a
minimum-bias trigger. The total charm production cross section at TeV and at 7 TeV was evaluated by extrapolating to the full phase space
the -differential production cross sections at TeV
and our previous measurements at TeV. The results were compared
to existing measurements and to perturbative-QCD calculations. The fraction of

Particle-yield modification in jet-like azimuthal di-hadron correlations in Pb-Pb collisions at = 2.76 TeV
The yield of charged particles associated with high- trigger
particles ( GeV/) is measured with the ALICE detector in
Pb-Pb collisions at = 2.76 TeV relative to proton-proton
collisions at the same energy. The conditional per-trigger yields are extracted
from the narrow jet-like correlation peaks in azimuthal di-hadron correlations.
In the 5% most central collisions, we observe that the yield of associated
charged particles with transverse momenta GeV/ on the
away-side drops to about 60% of that observed in pp collisions, while on the
