    First report of a primitive neuroectodermal tumor of the bladder in a newborn

    Primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) is part of the Ewing sarcoma family of tumors. The present case reports a primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) of rare location in the bladder in a newborn. It was evaluated with prenatal ultrasound and postnatal tomography that revealed a mass in the posterior wall of the bladder. The patient underwent partial cystectomy with subsequent analysis of the surgical piece removed, the histopathological study indicated a tumor of mesenchymal origin, and immunohistochemical staining confirmed the diagnosis of PNET of the bladder.     Indications for Factorization and ReVub<0Re V_{ub} < 0 from Rare B Decay Data

    Surveying known hadronic rare B decays, we find that the factorization approximation can give a coherent account of KπK\pi, ππ\pi\pi and ρ0π+\rho^0\pi^+ data and give predictions for ω0π+\omega^0\pi^+, ρπ\rho\pi and KπK^*\pi modes, {\it if ReVub{Re}V_{ub} is taken as negative} (in standard phase convention) rather than positive. As further confirmation, we expect a lower sin2β\sin2\beta value at B Factories as compared to current fits, and BsB_s mixing close to LEP bounds at SLD and CDF.Comment: 11 pages, revtex, 4 figures (unchanged and eps files included); version (including title and abstract change) to appear in Phys.     Matter effects in the D0-D0bar system

    We discuss the impact of matter effects in the D0-D0bar system. We show that such effects could, in principle, be measured, but that they cannot be used to probe the mass difference x_D or the lifetime difference y_D.     Constraints on the Mass and Mixing of the 4th Generation Quark From Direct CP Violationϵ/ϵ\epsilon^{\prime}/\epsilon and Rare K Decays

    We investigate the ϵ/ϵ\epsilon^{\prime} /\epsilon for KππK\to \pi\pi in a sequential fourth generation model. By giving the basic formulae for ϵ/ϵ\epsilon^{\prime}/\epsilon in this model, we analyze the numerical results which are dependent of mtm_{t^{\prime}} and imaginary part of the fourth CKM factor, ImVtsVtd{Im}V^{*}_{t^{'}s}V_{t^{'}d} (or VtsVtdV^{*}_{t^{'}s}V_{t^{'}d} and the fourth generation CKM matrix phase θ\theta). We find that, unlike the SM, when taking the central values of all parameters for ϵ/ϵ\epsilon^{\prime}/\epsilon, the values of ϵ/ϵ\epsilon^{\prime}/ \epsilon can easily fit to the current experimental data for all values of hadronic matrix elements estimated from various approaches. Also, we show that the experimental values of ϵ/ϵ\epsilon^{\prime}/\epsilon and rare K decays can provide a strong constraint on both mass and mixing of the fourth generation quark. When taking the values of hadronic matrix elements from the lattice or 1/N expansion calculations, a large region of the up-type quark mass mtm_{t^{\prime}} is excluded.Comment: 18 pages, 4 eps figure

    Limits on the Majorana neutrino mass in the 0.1 eV range

    The Heidelberg-Moscow experiment gives the most stringent limit on the Majorana neutrino mass. After 24 kg yr of data with pulse shape measurements, we set a lower limit on the half-life of the neutrinoless double beta decay in 76Ge of T_1/2 > 5.7 * 10^{25} yr at 90% C.L., thus excluding an effective Majorana neutrino mass greater than 0.2 eV. This allows to set strong constraints on degenerate neutrino mass models.Comment: 6 pages (latex) including 3 postscript figures and 2 table

The reconstruction of tracks, leptons, photons, missing energy and jets is investigated, together with the performance of b-tagging and the trigger. The physics potential for a variety of interesting physics processes, within the Standard Model and beyond, is examined.     Search for charginos in e+e- interactions at sqrt(s) = 189 GeV

    An update of the searches for charginos and gravitinos is presented, based on a data sample corresponding to the 158 pb^{-1} recorded by the DELPHI detector in 1998, at a centre-of-mass energy of 189 GeV. No evidence for a signal was found. The lower mass limits are 4-5 GeV/c^2 higher than those obtained at a centre-of-mass energy of 183 GeV. The (\mu,M_2) MSSM domain excluded by combining the chargino searches with neutralino searches at the Z resonance implies a limit on the mass of the lightest neutralino which, for a heavy sneutrino, is constrained to be above 31.0 GeV/c^2 for tan(beta) \geq 1.Comment: 22 pages, 8 figure

    Standalone vertex finding in the ATLAS muon spectrometer

    A dedicated reconstruction algorithm to find decay vertices in the ATLAS muon spectrometer is presented. The algorithm searches the region just upstream of or inside the muon spectrometer volume for multi-particle vertices that originate from the decay of particles with long decay paths. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated using both a sample of simulated Higgs boson events, in which the Higgs boson decays to long-lived neutral particles that in turn decay to bbar b final states, and pp collision data at √s = 7 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC during 2011

    Measurements of Higgs boson production and couplings in diboson final states with the ATLAS detector at the LHC

    Measurements are presented of production properties and couplings of the recently discovered Higgs boson using the decays into boson pairs, H →γ γ, H → Z Z∗ →4l and H →W W∗ →lνlν. The results are based on the complete pp collision data sample recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider at centre-of-mass energies of √s = 7 TeV and √s = 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 25 fb−1. Evidence for Higgs boson production through vector-boson fusion is reported. Results of combined fits probing Higgs boson couplings to fermions and bosons, as well as anomalous contributions to loop-induced production and decay modes, are presented. All measurements are consistent with expectations for the Standard Model Higgs boson
