La Metafísica de la Presencia: Obstáculos académicos en la enseñanza de la metodología de la investigación

    Get PDF

A look at some acts of violence and silenced repressions: evictions in Argentina

    Get PDF
During, at least, the last two years the combined struggles aimed to elaborate and impose some policies of emotions in Argentina relied in the phrase "this government does not perform repressions" one of his more accepted and widespread discursive threads. Beyond any "evaluation" on the national administration, over the last nine years there have been a series of repressive acts linked to the figure of eviction. The eviction is an act of restitution of a previous order by taking out or pulling from one place a person or group of persons who are unable to prove ownership, possession and / or an usufruct over a land, territory, housing or "activity space”. This paper intend to show the various modes of acts of violence and forms of repression that can be observed in Argentina, using youtube videos about several acts of evictions, looking to make evident the constant pressure and repression that have existed against the indigenous peoples, youth, women and homeless people. Key words: eviction, violence, repressions, bodies, Argentin

Pietų Amerikos visuomeninių sąjūdžių tyrimų sociologija ir epistemologija

This paper aims to show that changes in social-scientific approaches are needed as a way to explain and understand social protest and movements in the South American context; it also aims to point up the possibilities for getting lost in the logic of a geo-politically centred rationality. To this end, first, I will summarise the social context of different social movements and protest forms since the 60s. Second, I will present a synthesis of the theoretical perspectives on social protest and movements. Third, I will highlight some epistemological and methodological issues in studies on collective action. And finally I will explore the connection between the historical context and studies of collective action in South America today, in order to identify a current agenda for such studies.

The New Heroes: Applause and Sensibilities in the Era of the COVID-19

Since the implementation of preventive and compulsory social isolation, every night at 9:00 p.m. thousands of Argentines applaud the health system personnel from their patios, balconies and windows in support of their daily tasks. The purpose of this article is to present a critical analysis of the applause that the Argentine population offers as an emotional support for workers in the health sector in times of Covid-19. To achieve this objective, the following ar-gumentative strategy is followed: a) the relationship between heroes and spectators in a spec-tacularized society is described; b) second, a series of videos of different cities with structural diversity (social class, scale) from the virtual ethnography will be analysed; c) third, applause as an emotion is analysed according to the contexts of its production from the perspective of the sociology of bodies/emotions. Finally, the paper concludes with some questions about the relationship between public health and sensibilities in the post-Covid-19 era

this paper reports research conducted during the Italian confinement of 2020 and the following period of restrictive measures in 2021. The subjects of the research are young Sicilians who lived at home with their families. Sicily is representative of the condition of Italian youth, characterized by youth unemployment, the difficulty in seeking stable employment, and in achieving economic and also housing independence. It was considered interesting to analyse the experience of young people through qualitative interviews conducted via Skype to understand their experience in the light of the sociology of the body and emotions. An attempt was made to understand and typify the different ways of relating to families of origin, and of inserting one's own personal rhythm into the rhythm of a family. The results demonstrate different types of co-habitation that restore the image of a complex situation of generational coexistence, one characterized by solidarity and individualism.

Search for Physics beyond the Standard Model in Events with Overlapping Photons and Jets

    Get PDF
Results are reported from a search for new particles that decay into a photon and two gluons, in events with jets. Novel jet substructure techniques are developed that allow photons to be identified in an environment densely populated with hadrons. The analyzed proton-proton collision data were collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, in 2016 at root s = 13 TeV, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb(-1). The spectra of total transverse hadronic energy of candidate events are examined for deviations from the standard model predictions. No statistically significant excess is observed over the expected background. The first cross section limits on new physics processes resulting in such events are set. The results are interpreted as upper limits on the rate of gluino pair production, utilizing a simplified stealth supersymmetry model. The excluded gluino masses extend up to 1.7 TeV, for a neutralino mass of 200 GeV and exceed previous mass constraints set by analyses targeting events with isolated photons.Peer reviewe

Measurement of the top quark forward-backward production asymmetry and the anomalous chromoelectric and chromomagnetic moments in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV

Abstract The parton-level top quark (t) forward-backward asymmetry and the anomalous chromoelectric (d̂ t) and chromomagnetic (μ̂ t) moments have been measured using LHC pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected in the CMS detector in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The linearized variable AFB(1) is used to approximate the asymmetry. Candidate t t ¯ events decaying to a muon or electron and jets in final states with low and high Lorentz boosts are selected and reconstructed using a fit of the kinematic distributions of the decay products to those expected for t t ¯ final states. The values found for the parameters are AFB(1)=0.048−0.087+0.095(stat)−0.029+0.020(syst),μ̂t=−0.024−0.009+0.013(stat)−0.011+0.016(syst), and a limit is placed on the magnitude of | d̂ t| < 0.03 at 95% confidence level. Methods are presented for calibrating the hadron calorimeter system of theCMSetector at the LHC. The hadron calorimeters of the CMS experiment are sampling calorimeters of brass and scintillator, and are in the form of one central detector and two endcaps. These calorimeters cover pseudorapidities vertical bar eta vertical bar ee data. The energy scale of the outer calorimeters has been determined with test beam data and is confirmed through data with high transverse momentum jets. In this paper, we present the details of the calibration methods and accuracy.Peer reviewe

Measurement of the Jet Mass Distribution and Top Quark Mass in Hadronic Decays of Boosted Top Quarks in pp Collisions at root s=13 TeV

    Get PDF
A measurement is reported of the jet mass distribution in hadronic decays of boosted top quarks produced in pp collisions at root s = 13 TeV. The data were collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb(-1). The measurement is performed in the lepton + jets channel of t (t) over bar events, where the lepton is an electron or muon. The products of the hadronic top quark decay t -> bW -> bq (q) over bar' are reconstructed as a single jet with transverse momentum larger than 400 GeV. The t (t) over bar cross section as a function of the jet mass is unfolded at the particle level and used to extract a value of the top quark mass of 172.6 +/- 2.5 GeV. A novel jet reconstruction technique is used for the first time at the LHC, which improves the precision by a factor of 3 relative to an earlier measurement. This highlights the potential of measurements using boosted top quarks, where the new technique will enable future precision measurements.Peer reviewe
