Proton-proton bremsstrahlung below and above pion-threshold: the influence of the -isobar
The proton-proton bremsstrahlung is investigated within a coupled-channel
model with the degree of freedom. The model is consistent with the
scattering up to 1 GeV and the vertex determined in the
study of pion photoproduction reactions. It is found that the
excitation can significantly improve the agreements with the at MeV. Predictions at and MeV are
presented for future experimental tests.Comment: 26 pages Revtex, 12 figures are available from the authors upon

Is the physical vacuum a preferred frame ?
It is generally assumed that the physical vacuum of particle physics should
be characterized by an energy momentum tensor in such a way to preserve exact
Lorentz invariance. On the other hand, if the ground state were characterized
by its energy-momentum vector, with zero spatial momentum and a non-zero
energy, the vacuum would represent a preferred frame. Since both theoretical
approaches have their own good motivations, we propose an experimental test to
decide between the two scenarios.Comment: 12 pages, no figure
A batch-service queueing model with a discrete batch Markovian arrival process
Queueing systems with batch service have been investigated extensively during the past decades. However, nearly all the studied models share the common feature that an uncorrelated arrival process is considered, which is unrealistic in several real-life situations. In this paper, we study a discrete-time queueing model, with a server that only initiates service when the amount of customers in system (system content) reaches or exceeds a threshold. Correlation is taken into account by assuming a discrete batch Markovian arrival process (D-BMAP), i.e. the distribution of the number of customer arrivals per slot depends on a background state which is determined by a first-order Markov chain. We deduce the probability generating function of the system content at random slot marks and we examine the influence of correlation in the arrival process on the behavior of the system. We show that correlation merely has a small impact on the threshold that minimizes the mean system content. In addition, we demonstrate that correlation might have a significant influence on the system content and therefore has to be included in the model
Path finding strategies in scale-free networks
We numerically investigate the scale-free network model of Barab{\'a}si and
Albert [A. L. Barab{\'a}si and R. Albert, Science {\bf 286}, 509 (1999)]
through the use of various path finding strategies. In real networks, global
network information is not accessible to each vertex, and the actual path
connecting two vertices can sometimes be much longer than the shortest one. A
generalized diameter depending on the actual path finding strategy is
introduced, and a simple strategy, which utilizes only local information on the
connectivity, is suggested and shown to yield small-world behavior: the
diameter of the network increases logarithmically with the network size
, the same as is found with global strategy. If paths are sought at random,
is found.Comment: 4 pages, final for
Three-body decay of the d* dibaryon
Under certain circumstances, a three-body decay width can be approximated by
an integral involving a product of two off-shell two-body decay widths. This
``angle-average'' approximation is used to calculate the decay width
of the dibaryon in a simple model for the most
important Feynman diagrams describing pion emissions with baryon-baryon recoil
and meson retardation. The decay width is found to be about 0.006 (0.07, 0.5)
MeV at the mass of 2065 (2100, 2150) MeV for input dynamics derived from
the Full Bonn potential. The smallness of this width is qualitatively
understood as the result of the three-body decay being ``third forbidden''. The
concept of forbiddenness and the threshold behavior of a three-body
decay are further studied in connection with the decay of the dibaryon
where the idea of unfavorness has to be introduced.
The implications of these results are briefly discussed.Comment: 15 pages, RevTeX, two-column journal style, six figure
Anisotropic flow of charged hadrons, pions and (anti-)protons measured at high transverse momentum in Pb-Pb collisions at TeV
The elliptic, , triangular, , and quadrangular, , azimuthal
anisotropic flow coefficients are measured for unidentified charged particles,
pions and (anti-)protons in Pb-Pb collisions at TeV
with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Results obtained with the
event plane and four-particle cumulant methods are reported for the
pseudo-rapidity range at different collision centralities and as a
function of transverse momentum, , out to GeV/.
The observed non-zero elliptic and triangular flow depends only weakly on
transverse momentum for GeV/. The small dependence
of the difference between elliptic flow results obtained from the event plane
and four-particle cumulant methods suggests a common origin of flow
fluctuations up to GeV/. The magnitude of the (anti-)proton
elliptic and triangular flow is larger than that of pions out to at least
GeV/ indicating that the particle type dependence persists out
to high .Comment: 16 pages, 5 captioned figures, authors from page 11, published

Particle-yield modification in jet-like azimuthal di-hadron correlations in Pb-Pb collisions at = 2.76 TeV
The yield of charged particles associated with high- trigger
particles ( GeV/) is measured with the ALICE detector in
Pb-Pb collisions at = 2.76 TeV relative to proton-proton
collisions at the same energy. The conditional per-trigger yields are extracted
from the narrow jet-like correlation peaks in azimuthal di-hadron correlations.
In the 5% most central collisions, we observe that the yield of associated
charged particles with transverse momenta GeV/ on the
away-side drops to about 60% of that observed in pp collisions, while on the
near-side a moderate enhancement of 20-30% is found.Comment: 15 pages, 2 captioned figures, 1 table, authors from page 10,

Flavor Production in Pb(160AGeV) on Pb Collisions: Effect of Color Ropes and Hadronic Rescattering
Collective interactions in the preequilibrium quark matter and hadronic
resonance gas stage of ultrarelativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions are studied
in the framework of the the transport theoretical approach RQMD. The paper
reviews string fusion into color ropes and hadronic rescattering which serve as
models for these interactions. Hadron production in central Pb(160AGeV) on Pb
collisions has been calculated. The changes of the final flavor composition are
more pronounced than in previous RQMD studies of light ion induced reactions at
200AGeV. The ratio of created quark pairs /(+) is
enhanced by a factor of 2.4 in comparison to results. Color rope formation
increases the initially produced antibaryons to 3 times the value in the `NN
mode', but only one quarter of the produced antibaryons survives because of
subsequent strong absorption. The differences in the final particle composition
for Pb on Pb collisions compared to S induced reactions are attributed to the
hadronic resonance gas stage which is baryon-richer and lasts longer.Comment: 60 pages + 11 postscript figures (uuencoded and included
