SDSS IV MaNGA: Dependence of Global and Spatially Resolved SFR-M ∗ Relations on Galaxy Properties
Indexación: Scopus.The galaxy integrated Hα star formation rate-stellar mass relation, or SFR(global)-M ∗(global) relation, is crucial for understanding star formation history and evolution of galaxies. However, many studies have dealt with SFR using unresolved measurements, which makes it difficult to separate out the contamination from other ionizing sources, such as active galactic nuclei and evolved stars. Using the integral field spectroscopic observations from SDSS-IV MaNGA, we spatially disentangle the contribution from different Hα powering sources for ∼1000 galaxies. We find that, when including regions dominated by all ionizing sources in galaxies, the spatially resolved relation between Hα surface density (ΣHα(all)) and stellar mass surface density (Σ∗(all)) progressively turns over at the high Σ∗(all) end for increasing M ∗(global) and/or bulge dominance (bulge-to-total light ratio, B/T). This in turn leads to the flattening of the integrated Hα(global)-M ∗(global) relation in the literature. By contrast, there is no noticeable flattening in both integrated Hα(H ii)-M ∗(H ii) and spatially resolved ΣHα(H ii)-Σ∗(H ii) relations when only regions where star formation dominates the ionization are considered. In other words, the flattening can be attributed to the increasing regions powered by non-star-formation sources, which generally have lower ionizing ability than star formation. An analysis of the fractional contribution of non-star-formation sources to total Hα luminosity of a galaxy suggests a decreasing role of star formation as an ionizing source toward high-mass, high-B/T galaxies and bulge regions. This result indicates that the appearance of the galaxy integrated SFR-M ∗ relation critically depends on their global properties (M ∗(global) and B/T) and relative abundances of various ionizing sources within the galaxies.http://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.3847/1538-4357/aaa9bc/met
Low-Frequency Optical Conductivity in Inhomogeneous d-wave Superconductors
Motivated by the recent optical conductivity experiments on
Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+delta} films, we examine the possible origin of
low-frequency dissipation in the superconducting state. In the presence of
spatial inhomogeneity of the local phase stiffness rho_s, it is shown that some
spectral weight is removed from omega=0 to finite frequencies and contribute to
dissipation. A case where both rho_s and the local normal fluid density are
inhomogeneous is also considered. We find an enhanced dissipation at low
frequency if the two variations are anti-correlated.Comment: To appear in Phys. Rev.
HvbZIP21, a Novel Transcription Factor From Wild Barley Confers Drought Tolerance by Modulating ROS Scavenging
Drought stress is a common environmental stress, which adversely affects the yield and quality of crops. Due to its excellent drought tolerance, wild barley from the Middle East region is considered a valuable source for barley improvement. Here, we compared the growth rate, stomatal regulation and capacity to metabolize reactive oxygen species (ROS) of two barley cultivars and one wild barley accession. The results indicated the wild barley EC_S1 showed a more significant decline in stomatal aperture and less ROS production. Transcriptomic analysis revealed that EC_S1 has slower transcriptional regulation (5,050 DEGs) in the early stage of drought stress (14 days) than Baudin (7,022 DEGs) and Tadmor (6,090 DEGs). In addition, 30 hub genes, including nine known drought-related genes were identified by WGCNA analysis. Then, we cloned a novel bZIP transcription factor, HvbZIP21, from EC_S1. HvbZIP21 was subcellularly targeted to the nucleus. Overexpression of HvbZIP21 in Arabidopsis enhanced drought tolerance due to increasing activities of superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, and catalase activities as well as glutathione content. Silencing of HvbZIP21 in EC_S1 suppressed drought tolerance in BSMV:HvbZIP21-inoculated plants. Taken together, our findings suggest that HvbZIP21 play a critical role in drought tolerance by manipulating ROS scavenging
Genome sequence and analysis of the tuber crop potato
Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is the world’s most important non-grain food crop and is central to global food security. It is clonally propagated, highly heterozygous, autotetraploid, and suffers acute inbreeding depression. Here we use a homozygous doubled-monoploid potato clone to sequence and assemble 86% of the 844-megabase genome. We predict 39,031 protein-coding genes and present evidence for at least two genome duplication events indicative of a palaeopolyploid origin. As the first genome sequence of an asterid, the potato genome reveals 2,642 genes specific to this large angiosperm clade. We also sequenced a heterozygous diploid clone and show that gene presence/absence variants and other potentially deleterious mutations occur frequently and are a likely cause of inbreeding depression. Probabilistic instantaneous quantum computation
The principle of teleportation can be used to perform a quantum computation
even before its quantum input is defined. The basic idea is to perform the
quantum computation at some earlier time with qubits which are part of an
entangled state. At a later time a generalized Bell state measurement is
performed jointly on the then defined actual input qubits and the rest of the
entangled state. This projects the output state onto the correct one with a
certain exponentially small probability. The sufficient conditions are found

Nicotine-activated descending facilitation on spinal NMDA-dependent reflex potentiation from pontine tegmentum in rats
This study was conducted to investigate the possible neurotransmitter that activates the descending pathways coming from the dorsolateral pontine tegmentum (DPT) to modulate spinal pelvic-urethra reflex potentiation. External urethra sphincter electromyogram (EUSE) activity in response to test stimulation (TS, 1/30 Hz) and repetitive stimulation (RS, 1 Hz) on the pelvic afferent nerve of 63 anesthetized rats were recorded with or without microinjection of nicotinic cholinergic receptor (nAChR) agonists, ACh and nicotine, to the DPT. TS evoked a baseline reflex activity with a single action potential (1.00 +/- 0.00 spikes/stimulation, n = 40), whereas RS produced a long-lasting reflex potentiation (16.14 +/- 0.96 spikes/stimulation, n = 40) that was abolished by D-2-amino-5-phosphonovaleric acid (1.60 +/- 0.89 spikes/stimulation, n = 40) and was attenuated by 2,3-dihydroxy-6-nitro-7sulfamoyl-benzo (F) quinoxaline (7.10 +/- 0.84 spikes/stimulation, n = 40). ACh and nicotine microinjections to DPT both produced facilitation on the RS-induced reflex potentiation (23.57 +/- 2.23 and 28.29 +/- 2.36 spikes/stimulation, P = 0.01, n = 10 and 20, respectively). Pretreatment of selective nicotinic receptor antagonist, chlorisondamine, reversed the facilitation on RS-induced reflex potentiation caused by nicotine (19.41 +/- 1.21 spikes/stimulation, P = 0.01, n = 10) Intrathecal WAY-100635 and spinal transection at the T(1) level both abolished the facilitation on reflex potentiation resulting from the DPT nicotine injection (12.86 +/- 3.13 and 15.57 +/- 1.72 spikes/stimulation, P < 0.01, n = 10 each). Our findings suggest that activation of nAChR at DPT may modulate N-methyl-D-aspartic acid-dependent reflex potentiation via descending serotonergic neurotransmission. This descending modulation may have physiological/pathological relevance in the neural controls of urethral closure
Renormalization Group Running of Lepton Mixing Parameters in See-Saw Models with Flavor Symmetry
We study the renormalization group running of the tri-bimaximal mixing
predicted by the two typical flavor models at leading order. Although the
textures of the mass matrices are completely different, the evolution of
neutrino mass and mixing parameters is found to display approximately the same
pattern. For both normal hierarchy and inverted hierarchy spectrum, the quantum
corrections to both atmospheric and reactor neutrino mixing angles are so small
that they can be neglected. The evolution of the solar mixing angle
depends on and neutrino mass spectrum, the deviation
from its tri-bimaximal value could be large. Taking into account the
renormalization group running effect, the neutrino spectrum is constrained by
experimental data on in addition to the self-consistency
conditions of the models, and the inverted hierarchy spectrum is disfavored for
large . The evolution of light-neutrino masses is approximately

A study of the efficiency of the class of -states as a quantum channel
Recently, a new class of -states has been defined by Agarwal and Pati
\cite{agarwal} and it has been shown that they can be used as a quantum channel
for teleportation and superdense coding. In this work, we identify those
three-qubit states from the set of the new class of -states which are most
efficient or suitable for quantum teleportation. We show that with some
probability is best suited for

Measurement of the B0-anti-B0-Oscillation Frequency with Inclusive Dilepton Events
The - oscillation frequency has been measured with a sample of
23 million \B\bar B pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II
asymmetric B Factory at SLAC. In this sample, we select events in which both B
mesons decay semileptonically and use the charge of the leptons to identify the
flavor of each B meson. A simultaneous fit to the decay time difference

Search for direct production of charginos and neutralinos in events with three leptons and missing transverse momentum in √s = 7 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector
A search for the direct production of charginos and neutralinos in final states with three electrons or muons and missing transverse momentum is presented. The analysis is based on 4.7 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data delivered by the Large Hadron Collider and recorded with the ATLAS detector. Observations are consistent with Standard Model expectations in three signal regions that are either depleted or enriched in Z-boson decays. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set in R-parity conserving phenomenological minimal supersymmetric models and in simplified models, significantly extending previous results
