    Evaluación de la profundidad del surco gingival después del uso del hilo retractor 00 para restauraciones clase V en pacientes atendidos en la clínica odontológica de la Universidad de Las Américas

    Objective: To evaluate the depth of the gingival sulcus after the use of retractor thread 00 for class V restorations. Materials and Methods: For the present investigation, 84 dental pieces were evaluated in 46 patients, both men and women who attended the Clinic of the University of the Americas. Probing and control were performed at 72 hours to determine if it affected the retractor thread at the level of the gingival sulcus. Results: 64.29% of the pieces evaluated showed a change, while 35.71% remained in the normal standard. Regarding the differentiation of gingival biotypes, a greater change in the measurement of the gingival sulcus was obtained in patients with a thin biotype with 64.81% of the pieces evaluated in relation to the gross biotype with 35.19%. In the present study, the existence of bleeding at the level of the gingival sulcus was also determined at the time of the drilling: initial, middle and final. With bleeding results of 7.69%, 34.62% and 57.69% respectively. Conclusion: It was determined that there are significant differences with respect to the depth of the furrow presented in the initial, middle and final drilli ng, however the level of depth of the furrow was higher in the Middle Probe. This confirms that the use of the retractor thread a ffects the periodontium when performing the restorative procedure. In this study it was shown that 64.29% of the pieces evaluated were affected.Objetivo: Evaluar la profundidad del surco gingival después del uso del hilo retractor 00 para restauraciones clase V. Materiales y métodos: Se evaluó 84 piezas dentales en 46 pacientes, tanto hombres como mujeres, que asistieron a la Clínica de la Universidad de las Américas. Se realizó el sondaje y control luego de 72 horas para determinar si afectó el hilo retractor a nivel del surco gingival. Resultados: Un 64,29% de las piezas evaluadas presentaron un cambio, mientras que el 35,71% se mantuvieron en el estándar normal. En cuanto a la diferenciación de biotipos gingivales se obtuvo un mayor cambio de la medida del surco gingival en pacientes con biotipo delgado, con un 64,81% de piezas evaluadas en relación con el biotipo grueso, con 35,19% con base en la medida final. En el presente estudio también se determino la existencia de sangrado a nivel del surco gingival el momento de realizar los sondajes: inicial, medio y final, con resultados en sangrado de 7,69%, 34,62% y 57,69%, respectivamente. Conclusión: Se determinó que existen diferencias significativas con respecto a la profundidad del surco presentada en los sondajes inicial, medio y final; sin embargo, el nivel de profundidad del surco fue superior en el sondaje medio, lo que confirma que el uso del hilo retractor afecta al periodonto al momento de realizar el procedimiento restaurador.     Alimentary and anti-methanogenic potential of four tropical species in domestic ruminants

    Objective: To describe some considerations about the nutritional and antimetanogenic potential of four tropical leguminous plants present in Campeche, Mexico: Bauhinia divaricata, Dalbergia glabra, Piscidia piscipula and Caesalpinia vesicaria, in domestic ruminants. Design/methodology/approach: The information was obtained from databases and repositories available on the internet, as well as from official websites of national and international organizations. Results: Although there is vast information of several leguminous species, data still is limited for B. divaricata, D. glabra, P. piscipula and C. vesicaria, despite they are consumed by domestic ruminants. The few available studies report that these species have between 11 and 18% of crude protein (PC) and the presence of some secondary metabolites; however, there is no information regarding their antimetanogenic potential and animal productivity. Limitations of the study/implications: This study provides an overview of the nutritional and antimethanogenic potential of four species of tropical leguminous plants in domestic ruminants in Campeche. Findings/conclusions: B. divaricata, D. glabra, P. piscipula and C. vesicaria are leguminous plans that grow in the Yucatan Peninsula, are found in grazing areas and consumed by domestic ruminants; however, there are few reports that determine the nutritional value of their edible components and none that evaluate their effect on animal productivity and their ability to decrease rumen production of methane (CH4).OObjective: To describe some considerations about the alimentary and anti- methanogenic potential of Bauhinia divaricata, Dalbergia glabra, Piscidia piscipula and Caesalpinia vesicaria (Fabaceae) present in Campeche, Mexico, in domestic ruminants.Design/methodology/approach: The information was obtained from databases and archives in the internet, as well as official pages of national and international organizations.Results: Although there is vast information about some Fabaceae species, it is still limited for B. divaricata, D. glabra, P. piscipula and C. vesicaria, although they are consumed by domestic ruminants.     Resumen En este trabajo se presenta el desarrollo del prototipo de un oxímetro de pulso inalámbrico de largo alcance y bajo consumo de energía (LP-WA). El prototipo propuesto fue diseñado para adquirir, procesar y transmitir señales fisiológicas y de geolocalización de una persona realizando actividades cotidianas en ambiente de exteriores. Además, se presenta un análisis detallado del consumo de energía del prototipo para calcular su tiempo de vida útil. Por último, se presentan los resultados de una evaluación experimental del rendimiento del prototipo analizando la tasa de entrega de paquetes (PDR) y el indicador de intensidad de señal recibida (RSSI) en diferentes esquemas de transmisión. Estos resultados permitieron validar el bajo consumo de corriente del dispositivo y el correcto funcionamiento del dispositivo en el proceso de transmisión de paquetes hacia la estación base LP-WA. Abstract In this paper the development of a long range and low power (LP-WA) wireless pulse oximeter prototype is presented. The prototype proposed was designed to acquire, process and transmit physiological and geolocation signals from people in outdoor environments. In addition, a detailed energy consumption analysis of the prototype is given in order to calculate its lifetime. Finally, results of an experimental performance evaluation of the prototype in terms of received strength signal indicator (RSSI) and packet delivery rate (PDR) are presented. These results allowed to validate the low power consumption of the device and its appropriate operation in the packet transmission process to LP-WA base station.     Clonal heterogeneity and rates of specific chromosome gains are risk predictors in childhood high-hyperdiploid B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia

    B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) is the commonest childhood cancer. High hyperdiploidy (HHD) identifies the most frequent cytogenetic subgroup in childhood B-ALL. Although hyperdiploidy represents an important prognostic factor in childhood B-ALL, the specific chromosome gains with prognostic value in HHD-B-ALL remain controversial, and the current knowledge about the hierarchy of chromosome gains, clonal heterogeneity and chromosomal instability in HHD-B-ALL remains very limited. We applied automated sequential-iFISH coupled with single-cell computational modeling to identify the specific chromosomal gains of the eight typically gained chromosomes in a large cohort of 72 primary diagnostic (DX, n = 62) and matched relapse (REL, n = 10) samples from HHD-B-ALL patients with either favorable or unfavorable clinical outcome in order to characterize the clonal heterogeneity, specific chromosome gains and clonal evolution. Our data show a high degree of clonal heterogeneity and a hierarchical order of chromosome gains in DX samples of HHD-B-ALL. The rates of specific chromosome gains and clonal heterogeneity found in DX samples differ between HHD-B-ALL patients with favorable or unfavorable clinical outcome. In fact, our comprehensive analyses at DX using a computationally defined risk predictor revealed low levels of trisomies +18+10 and low levels of clonal heterogeneity as robust relapse risk factors in minimal residual disease (MRD)-negative childhood HHD-B-ALL patients: relapse-free survival beyond 5 years: 22.1% versus 87.9%, P < 0.0001 and 33.3% versus 80%, P < 0.0001, respectively. Moreover, longitudinal analysis of matched DX-REL HHD-B-ALL samples revealed distinct patterns of clonal evolution at relapse. Our study offers a reliable prognostic sub-stratification of pediatric MRD-negative HHD-B-ALL patients

    Management of acute diverticulitis with pericolic free gas (ADIFAS). an international multicenter observational study

    Background: There are no specific recommendations regarding the optimal management of this group of patients. The World Society of Emergency Surgery suggested a nonoperative strategy with antibiotic therapy, but this was a weak recommendation. This study aims to identify the optimal management of patients with acute diverticulitis (AD) presenting with pericolic free air with or without pericolic fluid. Methods: A multicenter, prospective, international study of patients diagnosed with AD and pericolic-free air with or without pericolic free fluid at a computed tomography (CT) scan between May 2020 and June 2021 was included. Patients were excluded if they had intra-abdominal distant free air, an abscess, generalized peritonitis, or less than a 1-year follow-up. The primary outcome was the rate of failure of nonoperative management within the index admission. Secondary outcomes included the rate of failure of nonoperative management within the first year and risk factors for failure. Results: A total of 810 patients were recruited across 69 European and South American centers; 744 patients (92%) were treated nonoperatively, and 66 (8%) underwent immediate surgery. Baseline characteristics were similar between groups. Hinchey II-IV on diagnostic imaging was the only independent risk factor for surgical intervention during index admission (odds ratios: 12.5, 95% CI: 2.4-64, P =0.003). Among patients treated nonoperatively, at index admission, 697 (94%) patients were discharged without any complications, 35 (4.7%) required emergency surgery, and 12 (1.6%) percutaneous drainage. Free pericolic fluid on CT scan was associated with a higher risk of failure of nonoperative management (odds ratios: 4.9, 95% CI: 1.2-19.9, P =0.023), with 88% of success compared to 96% without free fluid ( P &lt;0.001). The rate of treatment failure with nonoperative management during the first year of follow-up was 16.5%. Conclusion: Patients with AD presenting with pericolic free gas can be successfully managed nonoperatively in the vast majority of cases. Patients with both free pericolic gas and free pericolic fluid on a CT scan are at a higher risk of failing nonoperative management and require closer observation

    Measurement of the top quark forward-backward production asymmetry and the anomalous chromoelectric and chromomagnetic moments in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV

    Abstract The parton-level top quark (t) forward-backward asymmetry and the anomalous chromoelectric (d̂ t) and chromomagnetic (μ̂ t) moments have been measured using LHC pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected in the CMS detector in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The linearized variable AFB(1) is used to approximate the asymmetry. Candidate t t ¯ events decaying to a muon or electron and jets in final states with low and high Lorentz boosts are selected and reconstructed using a fit of the kinematic distributions of the decay products to those expected for t t ¯ final states. The values found for the parameters are AFB(1)=0.048−0.087+0.095(stat)−0.029+0.020(syst),μ̂t=−0.024−0.009+0.013(stat)−0.011+0.016(syst), and a limit is placed on the magnitude of | d̂ t| &lt; 0.03 at 95% confidence level.     An embedding technique to determine ττ backgrounds in proton-proton collision data

    An embedding technique is presented to estimate standard model tau tau backgrounds from data with minimal simulation input. In the data, the muons are removed from reconstructed mu mu events and replaced with simulated tau leptons with the same kinematic properties. In this way, a set of hybrid events is obtained that does not rely on simulation except for the decay of the tau leptons. The challenges in describing the underlying event or the production of associated jets in the simulation are avoided. The technique described in this paper was developed for CMS. Its validation and the inherent uncertainties are also discussed. The demonstration of the performance of the technique is based on a sample of proton-proton collisions collected by CMS in 2017 at root s = 13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 41.5 fb(-1).Peer reviewe

    MUSiC : a model-unspecific search for new physics in proton-proton collisions at root s=13TeV

    Results of the Model Unspecific Search in CMS (MUSiC), using proton-proton collision data recorded at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb(-1), are presented. The MUSiC analysis searches for anomalies that could be signatures of physics beyond the standard model. The analysis is based on the comparison of observed data with the standard model prediction, as determined from simulation, in several hundred final states and multiple kinematic distributions. Events containing at least one electron or muon are classified based on their final state topology, and an automated search algorithm surveys the observed data for deviations from the prediction. The sensitivity of the search is validated using multiple methods. No significant deviations from the predictions have been observed. For a wide range of final state topologies, agreement is found between the data and the standard model simulation. This analysis complements dedicated search analyses by significantly expanding the range of final states covered using a model independent approach with the largest data set to date to probe phase space regions beyond the reach of previous general searches.Peer reviewe
