    Diseño del sistema scada del proceso de transporte de cemento para holcim-Ecuador

    Entre los diferentes procesos de fabricación de cemento se encuentra el de transportación del producto y es en este punto en el cual desarrollamos el siguiente proyecto, el mismo tiene por objeto diseñar un sistema automático para operar dicha línea de transporte, empezando en los silos de almacenamiento al granel hasta las máquinas envasadoras desde donde se lo despacha al mercado de consumo. La automatización permitirá a la empresa una operación más veloz y estable del transporte del producto, así como registrar, vigilar y monitorear de una manera rápida, en tiempo real e histórico los parámetros principales del proceso. En el diseño de este sistema de automatización “SCADA” se selecciona un controlador lógico programable (PLC), con su respectivo software el cual posibilita programar todas las secuencias de funcionamiento necesarias para operar la línea de transporte, además mediante el uso de un software de automatización industrial se elabora el interfaz hombre-máquina (HMI), el cual permitirá operar todos los elementos de campo desde un computador ubicado en el cuarto de control central

    Asynchronous processing for latent fingerprint identification on heterogeneous CPU-GPU systems

    Latent fingerprint identification is one of the most essential identification procedures in criminal investigations. Addressing this task is challenging as (i) it requires analyzing massive databases in reasonable periods and (ii) it is commonly solved by combining different methods with very complex data-dependencies, which make fully exploiting heterogeneous CPU-GPU systems very complex. Most efforts in this context focus on improving the accuracy of the approaches and neglect reducing the processing time. Indeed, the most accurate approach was designed for one single thread. This work introduces the fastest methodology for latent fingerprint identification maintaining high accuracy called Asynchronous processing for Latent Fingerprint Identification (ALFI). ALFI fully exploits all the resources of CPU-GPU systems using asynchronous processing and fine-coarse parallelism for analyzing massive databases. Our approach reduces idle times in processing and exploits the inherent parallelism of comparing latent fingerprints to fingerprint impressions. We analyzed the performance of ALFI on Linux and Windows operating systems using the well-known NIST/FVC databases. Experimental results reveal that ALFI is in average 22x faster than the state-of-the-art algorithm, reaching a value of 44.7x for the best-studied case

    Stones that speak: cataloging and analysis of the mosaic floorings in the Roncal Valley

    The paper analyzes the set of mosaic floors built in the traditional houses of the Roncal Valley using river pebbles. Fieldwork has been carried out structured in a methodology of survey and registration of both the pavements themselves and the traditional knowledge that supports their making process. The study of each piece involved taking images, measurements and obtaining data about materials and manufacture. For this purpose, initially, non-experimental research has been conducted consisting of a descriptive study through an analytical questionnaire focused on the type of the flooring, its arrangement model, and the ornamental and significant elements of its decoration. After the correlational analysis of the results, the technological component provided by the graphic discourse within the community and in the domestic nucleus that hosts it was evaluated.El estudio analiza el conjunto de suelos musivos construidos en las casas tradicionales del Valle de Roncal mediante cantos rodados de origen fluvial. Se ha efectuado un trabajo de campo estructurado en una metodología de encuestación y registro tanto de los propios pavimentos cómo del conocimiento tradicional que sustenta su proceso de elaboración. El estudio de cada pieza conllevó la toma de imágenes, medidas y la obtención de información acerca de materiales y procesos constructivos. Para ello, se efectuó una investigación experimental, que constó de un estudio descriptivo a través de un cuestionario analítico centrado en el tipo funcional del desolado, su modelo de disposición y los elementos ornamentales y significativos de su decoración. Tras el análisis correlacional de los resultados, se evaluó el componente tecnológico que aporta el discurso gráfico en el seno de la comunidad y en el propio núcleo doméstico que lo acoge

    El presente trabajo; fue realizado como requisito par a obtener el título de administradores de empresas, basados en lo solicitado en el curso del diplomado de profundización en gerencia del talento humano. La investigación realizada fue de tipo cuantitativo y su desarrollo se describe en cinco capítulos: Inicia con un primer capítulo se planteó el problema relacionado con la Salud Ocupacional para el empresa Agua El Sol, el segundo capítulo contiene las teorías relacionadas con la temática, literatura que sirvió de base para la argumentación y descripción del trabajo, en el capítulo tres, se establecieron los procedimientos utilizados para la indagación de los datos necesarios para el estudio, en consecuencia en el capítulo cuarto se presentan los resultados obtenidos mediante el instrumento utilizado en la recolección de la información y finaliza con el capítulo cinco en el que se realizan las recomendaciones del caso frente a los hallazgos encontrados, luego se plantea la propuesta basada en el Modelo de Nonaka y Takeuchi y por último se entregan las conclusiones a que se llegó producto del desarrollo de estudio y para el área indicada.The present work; It was carried out as a requirement to obtain the title of business administrators, based on what was requested in the course of the Diploma of Deepening  in Human Talent Management.     Inhibition of Glioblastoma Growth by the Thiadiazolidinone Compound TDZD-8

    This is an open-access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License.[Background]: Thiadiazolidinones (TDZD) are small heterocyclic compounds first described as non-ATP competitive inhibitors of glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta (GSK-3 beta). In this study, we analyzed the effects of 4-benzyl-2-methyl-1,2,4-thiadiazolidine-3,5- dione (TDZD-8), on murine GL261 cells growth in vitro and on the growth of established intracerebral murine gliomas in vivo. [Methodology/Principal Findings]: Our data show that TDZD-8 decreased proliferation and induced apoptosis of GL261 glioblastoma cells in vitro, delayed tumor growth in vivo, and augmented animal survival. These effects were associated with an early activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) pathway and increased expression of EGR-1 and p21 genes. Also, we observed a sustained activation of the ERK pathway, a concomitant phosphorylation and activation of ribosomal S6 kinase (p90RSK) and an inactivation of GSK-3 beta by phosphorylation at Ser 9. Finally, treatment of glioblastoma stem cells with TDZD-8 resulted in an inhibition of proliferation and self-renewal of these cells. [Conclusions/Significance]: Our results suggest that TDZD-8 uses a novel mechanism to target glioblastoma cells, and that malignant progenitor population could be a target of this compound.This work was supported by the Ministerio de Educacion y Ciencia grant SAF2007-62811 (to A.P.-C.).     La enseñanza del metabolismo: retos y oportunidades

    En el marco del Proyecto de Innovación Educativa de la Universidad de Málaga PIE15-163, cuya descripción y resultados incluimos, decidimos que esta era una excelente oportunidad para reflexionar acerca de la enseñanza del metabolismo y de poner por escrito dichas reflexiones en un libro. Quisimos y pudimos contar con la colaboración de buena parte de los compañeros del Departamento de Biología Molecular y Bioquímica que apoyaron con su firma el proyecto PIE15-163 y extendimos nuestra invitaciones a otros compañeros de dentro y fuera de la Universidad de Málaga. Del Departamento de Biología Molecular y Bioquímica de la Universidad de Málaga hemos recibido aportaciones de los catedráticos Victoriano Valpuesta Fernández, Ana Rodríguez Quesada y Antonio Heredia Bayona, los profesores titulares María Josefa Pérez Rodríguez, José Luis Urdiales Ruiz e Ignacio Fajardo Paredes y la investigadora postdoctoral y profesora sustituta interina Beatriz Martínez Poveda. La primera presenta el Proyecto en cuyo marco se ha gestado la iniciativa que ha conducido a la edición del presente libro. La segunda sección la hemos titulado "¿Qué metabolismo?" e incluye diversas aportaciones personales que reflexionan acerca de qué metabolismo debe conocer un graduado en Bioquímica, en Biología, en Química, en Farmacia o en Medicina, así como una aportación acerca de qué bioquímica estructural y enzimología son útiles y necesarias para un estudiante que vaya a afrontar el estudio del metabolismo. La tercera sección, "Bases conceptuales", analiza las aportaciones del aprendizaje colaborativo, el contrato de aprendizaje y el aprendizaje basado en la resolución de casos prácticos a la mejora del proceso enseñanza-aprendizaje dentro del campo de la Bioquímica y Biología Molecular, más concretamente en el estudio del metabolismo. La cuarta sección se titula "Herramientas", es la más extensa e incluye las diversas aportaciones centradas en propuestas concretas de aplicación relevantes y útiles para la mejora de la docencia-aprendizaje del metabolismo. Sigue una sección dedicada a presentar de forma resumida los "Resultados" del proyecto PIE15-163.     Antimicrobial resistance among migrants in Europe: a systematic review and meta-analysis

    BACKGROUND: Rates of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) are rising globally and there is concern that increased migration is contributing to the burden of antibiotic resistance in Europe. However, the effect of migration on the burden of AMR in Europe has not yet been comprehensively examined. Therefore, we did a systematic review and meta-analysis to identify and synthesise data for AMR carriage or infection in migrants to Europe to examine differences in patterns of AMR across migrant groups and in different settings. METHODS: For this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched MEDLINE, Embase, PubMed, and Scopus with no language restrictions from Jan 1, 2000, to Jan 18, 2017, for primary data from observational studies reporting antibacterial resistance in common bacterial pathogens among migrants to 21 European Union-15 and European Economic Area countries. To be eligible for inclusion, studies had to report data on carriage or infection with laboratory-confirmed antibiotic-resistant organisms in migrant populations. We extracted data from eligible studies and assessed quality using piloted, standardised forms. We did not examine drug resistance in tuberculosis and excluded articles solely reporting on this parameter. We also excluded articles in which migrant status was determined by ethnicity, country of birth of participants' parents, or was not defined, and articles in which data were not disaggregated by migrant status. Outcomes were carriage of or infection with antibiotic-resistant organisms. We used random-effects models to calculate the pooled prevalence of each outcome. The study protocol is registered with PROSPERO, number CRD42016043681. FINDINGS: We identified 2274 articles, of which 23 observational studies reporting on antibiotic resistance in 2319 migrants were included. The pooled prevalence of any AMR carriage or AMR infection in migrants was 25·4% (95% CI 19·1-31·8; I2 =98%), including meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (7·8%, 4·8-10·7; I2 =92%) and antibiotic-resistant Gram-negative bacteria (27·2%, 17·6-36·8; I2 =94%). The pooled prevalence of any AMR carriage or infection was higher in refugees and asylum seekers (33·0%, 18·3-47·6; I2 =98%) than in other migrant groups (6·6%, 1·8-11·3; I2 =92%). The pooled prevalence of antibiotic-resistant organisms was slightly higher in high-migrant community settings (33·1%, 11·1-55·1; I2 =96%) than in migrants in hospitals (24·3%, 16·1-32·6; I2 =98%). We did not find evidence of high rates of transmission of AMR from migrant to host populations. INTERPRETATION: Migrants are exposed to conditions favouring the emergence of drug resistance during transit and in host countries in Europe. Increased antibiotic resistance among refugees and asylum seekers and in high-migrant community settings (such as refugee camps and detention facilities) highlights the need for improved living conditions, access to health care, and initiatives to facilitate detection of and appropriate high-quality treatment for antibiotic-resistant infections during transit and in host countries. Protocols for the prevention and control of infection and for antibiotic surveillance need to be integrated in all aspects of health care, which should be accessible for all migrant groups, and should target determinants of AMR before, during, and after migration.     Father's occupational exposure to carcinogenic agents and childhood acute leukemia: a new method to assess exposure (a case-control study)

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Medical research has not been able to establish whether a father's occupational exposures are associated with the development of acute leukemia (AL) in their offspring. The studies conducted have weaknesses that have generated a misclassification of such exposure. Occupations and exposures to substances associated with childhood cancer are not very frequently encountered in the general population; thus, the reported risks are both inconsistent and inaccurate. In this study, to assess exposure we used a new method, an exposure index, which took into consideration the industrial branch, specific position, use of protective equipment, substances at work, degree of contact with such substances, and time of exposure. This index allowed us to obtain a grade, which permitted the identification of individuals according to their level of exposure to known or potentially carcinogenic agents that are not necessarily specifically identified as risk factors for leukemia. The aim of this study was to determine the association between a father's occupational exposure to carcinogenic agents and the presence of AL in their offspring.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>From 1999 to 2000, a case-control study was performed with 193 children who reside in Mexico City and had been diagnosed with AL. The initial sample-size calculation was 150 children per group, assessed with an expected odds ratio (OR) of three and a minimum exposure frequency of 15.8%. These children were matched by age, sex, and institution with 193 pediatric surgical patients at secondary-care hospitals. A questionnaire was used to determine each child's background and the characteristics of the father's occupation(s). In order to determine the level of exposure to carcinogenic agents, a previously validated exposure index (occupational exposure index, OEI) was used. The consistency and validity of the index were assessed by a questionnaire comparison, the sensory recognition of the work area, and an expert's opinion.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The adjusted ORs and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were 1.69 (0.98, 2.92) during the preconception period; 1.98 (1.13, 3.45) during the index pregnancy; 2.11 (1.17, 3.78) during breastfeeding period; 2.17 (1.28, 3.66) after birth; and 2.06 (1.24, 3.42) for global exposure.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>This is the first study in which an OEI was used to assess a father's occupational exposure to carcinogenic agents as a risk factor for the development of childhood AL in his offspring. From our results, we conclude that children whose fathers have been exposed to a high level of carcinogenic agents seem to have a greater risk of developing acute leukemia. However, confounding factors cannot be disregarded due to an incomplete control for confounding.</p
