The Effect of Adding Calcium Stearate on Wear-resistance of Ultra-high Molecular Weight Polyethylene

AbstractIn order to find an effective solid lubrication filler for the composites based on ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, tribotechnical properties of UHMWPE and its blends with calcium stearate (С36Н70СаО4, CS) under dry friction, boundary lubrication and abrasion were studied. It is demonstrated that wear rate of UHMWPE-CS compositions under dry sliding friction decreases by more than 4 times as compared to pure UHMWPE while the mechanicals properties do not change substantially. Under abrasion conditions the wear rate of the stated composites rises with the increased content of the filler. The optimal filler weight fraction is determined in terms of ensuring maximum wear resistance. The wear mechanisms of UHMWPE-based polymer compounds with a solid lubrication filler under dry sliding friction conditions and abrasion are discussed

Significance of herpesvirus infections in the etiology of bronchopulmonary complications in patients undergoing heart transplantation

Objective. To study significance of herpesviruses in the development of infectious complications in patients after heart transplantation based on the detection of markers of herpesvirus infections. Materials and Methods. The paper presents the results of a comprehensive examination for markers (HVI) of patients who underwent orthotopic heart transplantation at the V.I. Shumakov National Medical Center of Transplantology and Artificial Organs (Moscow). A total of 86 patients were observed. To establish the etiological diagnosis of infectious complications, all the blood serum and blood cell samples were analyzed for markers of herpesvirus infections. The titers of IgM and IgG antibodies to herpesviruses (HSV1, HSV-2, EBV, CMV and HCV-6) in blood serum were determined using enzyme-linked immunoassay. Indirect immunofluorescence was used to detect herpesviruses and their antigens in peripheral blood leukocytes. Early CMV and HCV-6 antigens as well as reproduction of HSV and EBV were detected by a rapid cultural method. Results. There was a wide prevalence of herpesviruses in the studied groups. It was shown that in all groups of patients with reduced immunity, herpesviruses always manifested themselves as mixed infections. Conclusions. The study gives grounds to carry out laboratory diagnostics for all patients in order to differentiate the types of herpes viruses and the degree of their activity in order to identify activation and relief of infectious processes caused by herpes viral infections

Geographical and temporal distribution of SARS-CoV-2 clades in the WHO European Region, January to June 2020

We show the distribution of SARS-CoV-2 genetic clades over time and between countries and outline potential genomic surveillance objectives. We applied three available genomic nomenclature systems for SARS-CoV-2 to all sequence data from the WHO European Region available during the COVID-19 pandemic until 10 July 2020. We highlight the importance of real-time sequencing and data dissemination in a pandemic situation. We provide a comparison of the nomenclatures and lay a foundation for future European genomic surveillance of SARS-CoV-2.Peer reviewe

Risk profiles and one-year outcomes of patients with newly diagnosed atrial fibrillation in India: Insights from the GARFIELD-AF Registry.

BACKGROUND: The Global Anticoagulant Registry in the FIELD-Atrial Fibrillation (GARFIELD-AF) is an ongoing prospective noninterventional registry, which is providing important information on the baseline characteristics, treatment patterns, and 1-year outcomes in patients with newly diagnosed non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). This report describes data from Indian patients recruited in this registry. METHODS AND RESULTS: A total of 52,014 patients with newly diagnosed AF were enrolled globally; of these, 1388 patients were recruited from 26 sites within India (2012-2016). In India, the mean age was 65.8 years at diagnosis of NVAF. Hypertension was the most prevalent risk factor for AF, present in 68.5% of patients from India and in 76.3% of patients globally (P < 0.001). Diabetes and coronary artery disease (CAD) were prevalent in 36.2% and 28.1% of patients as compared with global prevalence of 22.2% and 21.6%, respectively (P < 0.001 for both). Antiplatelet therapy was the most common antithrombotic treatment in India. With increasing stroke risk, however, patients were more likely to receive oral anticoagulant therapy [mainly vitamin K antagonist (VKA)], but average international normalized ratio (INR) was lower among Indian patients [median INR value 1.6 (interquartile range {IQR}: 1.3-2.3) versus 2.3 (IQR 1.8-2.8) (P < 0.001)]. Compared with other countries, patients from India had markedly higher rates of all-cause mortality [7.68 per 100 person-years (95% confidence interval 6.32-9.35) vs 4.34 (4.16-4.53), P < 0.0001], while rates of stroke/systemic embolism and major bleeding were lower after 1 year of follow-up. CONCLUSION: Compared to previously published registries from India, the GARFIELD-AF registry describes clinical profiles and outcomes in Indian patients with AF of a different etiology. The registry data show that compared to the rest of the world, Indian AF patients are younger in age and have more diabetes and CAD. Patients with a higher stroke risk are more likely to receive anticoagulation therapy with VKA but are underdosed compared with the global average in the GARFIELD-AF. The article is devoted to the description of the practical and theoretical development of the formal sphere and will be useful for practitioners, theorists of design art, students, future designers. But this is impossible without extensive and solid knowledge of the objective, evolutionary development of form in the visual arts. We see one of the solutions to this problem as developed by the authors of the analytical schematic tasks presented in this article. Thus, thanks to the analysis of formal components in the creative products of well-known personalities, the student will be more ready to create their own copyright works
