Genetic diversity in the anthracnose pathogen infecting Stylosanthes in Brazil, India and China
Counter ions and constituents combination affect DODAX: MO nanocarriers toxicity in vitro and in vivo
Liposomes have received extensive attention as nanocarriers for bioactive compounds due to their good biocompatibility, possibility of targeting and incorporation of hydrophilic and hydrophobic compounds. Although generally considered as safe, detailed knowledge of the effects induced in cells and tissues with which they interact is still underexplored. The aim of this study is to gain insight into the toxicity profile of dioctadecyldimethylammonium (DODAX) : monoolein(MO) liposomes (X is bromide or chloride), previously validated for gene therapy, by evaluating the effect of the counter ions Br− or Cl−, and of the cationic : neutral lipid molar fraction, both in vitro and in vivo. Effects on cellular metabolism and proliferation, plasma membrane integrity, oxidative stress, mitochondrial membrane potential dysfunction and ability to trigger apoptosis and necrosis were evaluated in a dose-/time-dependent manner in normal human skin fibroblasts. Also, newly fertilized zebrafish zygotes were exposed to liposomes, permitting a fast-track evaluation of the morphophysiological modifications. In vitro data showed that only very high doses of DODAX : MO induce apoptosis and necrosis, inhibit cell proliferation, and affect the metabolism and plasma membrane integrity of fibroblasts in a dose-/time-dependent manner. Furthermore, liposomes affected mitochondrial function, increasing ROS accumulation and disturbing mitochondrial membrane potential. DODAC-based liposomes were consistently more toxic when compared to DODAB-based formulations; furthermore, the inclusion of MO was found to reduce toxicity, in contrast to liposomes with cationic DODAX only, especially in DODAB : MO (1 : 2) nanocarriers. A Bayesian Modelling of Wildfires in Portugal
In the last decade wildfires became a serious problem in Portugal due to
different issues such as climatic characteristics and nature of Portuguese forest. In
order to analyse wildfire data, we employ beta regression for modelling the proportion
of burned forest area, under a Bayesian perspective. Our main goal is to find
out fire risk factors that influence the proportion of area burned and what may make

Fitting the integrated Spectral Energy Distributions of Galaxies
Fitting the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of galaxies is an almost
universally used technique that has matured significantly in the last decade.
Model predictions and fitting procedures have improved significantly over this
time, attempting to keep up with the vastly increased volume and quality of
available data. We review here the field of SED fitting, describing the
modelling of ultraviolet to infrared galaxy SEDs, the creation of
multiwavelength data sets, and the methods used to fit model SEDs to observed
galaxy data sets. We touch upon the achievements and challenges in the major
ingredients of SED fitting, with a special emphasis on describing the interplay
between the quality of the available data, the quality of the available models,
and the best fitting technique to use in order to obtain a realistic
measurement as well as realistic uncertainties. We conclude that SED fitting
can be used effectively to derive a range of physical properties of galaxies,
such as redshift, stellar masses, star formation rates, dust masses, and
metallicities, with care taken not to over-interpret the available data. Yet
there still exist many issues such as estimating the age of the oldest stars in
a galaxy, finer details ofdust properties and dust-star geometry, and the
influences of poorly understood, luminous stellar types and phases. The
challenge for the coming years will be to improve both the models and the
observational data sets to resolve these uncertainties. The present review will
be made available on an interactive, moderated web page (sedfitting.org), where
the community can access and change the text. The intention is to expand the

Measurement of D*+/- meson production in jets from pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector
This paper reports a measurement of D*+/- meson production in jets from
proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 7 TeV at the
CERN Large Hadron Collider. The measurement is based on a data sample recorded
with the ATLAS detector with an integrated luminosity of 0.30 pb^-1 for jets
with transverse momentum between 25 and 70 GeV in the pseudorapidity range
|eta| < 2.5. D*+/- mesons found in jets are fully reconstructed in the decay
chain: D*+ -> D0pi+, D0 -> K-pi+, and its charge conjugate. The production rate
is found to be N(D*+/-)/N(jet) = 0.025 +/- 0.001(stat.) +/- 0.004(syst.) for
D*+/- mesons that carry a fraction z of the jet momentum in the range 0.3 < z <
1. Monte Carlo predictions fail to describe the data at small values of z, and

UV-Vis spectroscopy of stardust
NASA's Stardust mission flew through the coma of comet Wild 2 in January 2004, capturing dust grains as it did so. The grains were returned safely to Earth in January 2006, and are in the process of being distributed to investigators. As members of the Spectroscopy Preliminary Examination Team, we are preparing to analyse Stardust grains. Our contribution is to measure the spectrum of the grains between 200 nm (in the near ultraviolet) and 800 nm (near infrared). The purpose of the measurement is to provide an additional technique for characterizing the grains, one that is complementary to other spectroscopic techniques and one that produces results that can be matched directly with spectra acquired remotely (with telescope or spacecraft instrumentation). As part of the preparation for analysis of Stardust materials, we are producing a database of spectra from appropriate minerals, and are honing the technique through analysis of primitive meteorites
Search for supersymmetry in final states with jets, missing transverse momentum and one isolated lepton in sqrt{s} = 7 TeV pp collisions using 1 fb-1 of ATLAS data
We present an update of a search for supersymmetry in final states containing
jets, missing transverse momentum, and one isolated electron or muon, using
1.04 fb^-1 of proton-proton collision data at sqrt{s} = 7 TeV recorded by the
ATLAS experiment at the LHC in the first half of 2011. The analysis is carried
out in four distinct signal regions with either three or four jets and
variations on the (missing) transverse momentum cuts, resulting in optimized
limits for various supersymmetry models. No excess above the standard model
background expectation is observed. Limits are set on the visible cross-section
of new physics within the kinematic requirements of the search. The results are
interpreted as limits on the parameters of the minimal supergravity framework,
limits on cross-sections of simplified models with specific squark and gluino
decay modes, and limits on parameters of a model with bilinear R-parity

Avaliação da incidência de antracnose, do desempenho e estado nutricional de variedades de mangueira, para cultivo orgânico, na região centro-norte do Estado de São Paulo.
A mudança do perfil do consumidor, aliada aos riscos da contaminação por agrotóxicos, tem levado à busca de alternativas ecologicamente apropriadas para produção de frutas. Os objetivos deste trabalho foram avaliar a incidência de antracnose, o desempenho e estado nutricional de variedades de mangueira conduzidas organicamente na região de Pindorama-SP. Foram utilizadas 17 variedades de mangueira. O experimento foi instalado em delineamento experimental em blocos completos ao acaso, com 17 tratamentos (variedades) e seis repetições. Foi avaliada a severidade de antracnose nas folhas, através de uma escala diagramática, atribuindo-se notas aos sintomas. Foram avaliados o crescimento e o desenvolvimento (altura da planta, perímetro do tronco e da copa) e o estado nutricional, mediante análise foliar, das diferentes variedades utilizadas. Através dos resultados obtidos, podem-se considerar como muito suscetíveis à antracnose as variedades Bourbon, Rocha e Rosa; e resistentes, as variedades IAC 111, Alfa, Beta e Parvin; as variedades de manga apresentaram o mesmo padrão de crescimento; as maiores alturas da planta corresponderam aos maiores diâmetros do tronco e da copa; a variedade Parvin apresentou o melhor desempenho dentre as variedades estudadas, com relação à resistência à antracnose, altura e diâmetro do caule e da copa, podendo ser recomendada ao cultivo orgânico. As variedades Omega e Alfa também apresentaram bom crescimento, podendo ser indicadas para esse cultivo, pelo menos nessa fase inicial; as variedades Surpresa e Rosa não apresentaram bom desempenho, no campo, em relação às demais, não devendo ser recomendadas para o cultivo orgânico, principalmente a variedade Rosa, bastante suscetível à antracnose. As concentrações de N, P e K foram elevadas na fase vegetativa das plantas, comparadas à baixa concentração de Ca; houve carência de Boro em todas as variedades estudadas. A manga Rosa, provavelmente, sofreu toxicidade ao excesso de manganês, ocasionando diminuição em seu desenvolvimento
Reducing heterotic M-theory to five dimensional supergravity on a manifold with boundary
This paper constructs the reduction of heterotic -theory in eleven
dimensions to a supergravity model on a manifold with boundary in five
dimensions using a Calabi-Yau three-fold. New results are presented for the
boundary terms in the action and for the boundary conditions on the bulk
fields. Some general features of dualisation on a manifold with boundary are
used to explain the origin of some topological terms in the action. The effect
of gaugino condensation on the fermion boundary conditions leads to a `twist'
in the chirality of the gravitino which can provide an uplifting mechanism in
the vacuum energy to cancel the cosmological constant after moduli

CFD modelling methodology and challenges of hydrogen self-pressurisation and boil-off: A review
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is widely used in hydrogen technologies to simulate and optimise fluid flow, heat transfer, and safety scenarios across applications such as storage systems, pipelines, fuel cells, and refuelling infrastructure, with the worldwide goal of achieving net-zero and decarbonisation. In this paper, a review of CFD research is presented to assist CFD practitioners in gathering relevant insights to inform their modelling methodology of hydrogen self-pressurisation and boil-off in cryogenic tanks.By examining CFD results from literature, this review explores applicability, resilience and robustness of different models to provide the reader with the best starting point and a clear view of the most suitable CFD route in their specific case. Described multi-phase simulations with conjugate heat transfer include such effects as sloshing, variation of the gravitational acceleration and design modifications to highlight potential impact on the setup, solution and the flow physics. Although the common theme of the studies reviewed here is liquid hydrogen, the principles described can be applied to other cryogenic fluid systems.This review showed that CFD can effectively predict boil-off and self-pressurisation in cryogenic storage. The key findings are that the simulation results are highly sensitive to the fluids thermal properties and boundary conditions, whereas variable coefficients within mass transfer models do not significantly affect the simulation accuracy
