    Efectos de dietas ricas en ácidos grasos monoinsaturados en la gestión y prevención de la resistencia a la insulina: Una revisión sistemática

    Insulin resistance (IR), which is linked to obesity, is a mechanism associated with metabolic diseases, mainly type 2 diabetes mellitus. Studies have shown that monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) have anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative properties which positively affect IR. This systematic review examined the effects of MUFAs from different sources on IR in obese or overweight patients with or without metabolic syndrome. A search was carried out in the PubMed/Medline and Bireme/VHL databases, and data from 16 studies were analysed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. The intervention time ranged from 1 day to 5.2 years. All participants were overweight or obese; some had central obesity, a moderate risk of cardiovascular disease, low high-density lipoprotein levels, altered fasting glucose levels, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes mellitus. This systematic review provides evidence that MUFA-rich diets can improve IR.La resistencia a la insulina (RI), que está ligada a la obesidad, es un mecanismo asociado a enfermedades metabólicas, principalmente a la diabetes mellitus tipo 2. Los estudios han demostrado que los ácidos grasos monoinsaturados (AGMI) tienen propiedades antiinflamatorias y antioxidantes, que afectan positivamente a la RI. Esta revisión sistemática examinó los efectos de los AGMI de diferentes fuentes sobre la RI en pacientes obesos o con sobrepeso con o sin síndrome metabólico. Se realizó una búsqueda en las bases de datos PubMed/Medline y Bireme/VHL, y se analizaron los datos de 16 estudios de acuerdo con las pautas Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. El tiempo de intervención osciló entre 1 día y 5,2 años. Todos los participantes tenían sobrepeso u obesidad; algunos tenían obesidad central, riesgo moderado de enfermedad cardiovascular, niveles bajos de lipoproteínas de alta densidad, niveles alterados de glucosa en ayunas, prediabetes o diabetes mellitus tipo 2.     Expression patterns of Passiflora edulis APETALA1/FRUITFULL homologues shed light onto tendril and corona identities

    Abstract Background Passiflora (passionflowers) makes an excellent model for studying plant evolutionary development. They are mostly perennial climbers that display axillary tendrils, which are believed to be modifications of the inflorescence. Passionflowers are also recognized by their unique flower features, such as the extra whorls of floral organs composed of corona filaments and membranes enclosing the nectary. Although some work on Passiflora organ ontogeny has been done, the developmental identity of both Passiflora tendrils and the corona is still controversial. Here, we combined ultrastructural analysis and expression patterns of the flower meristem and floral organ identity genes of the MADS-box AP1/FUL clade to reveal a possible role for these genes in the generation of evolutionary novelties in Passiflora. Results We followed the development of structures arising from the axillary meristem from juvenile to adult phase in P. edulis. We further assessed the expression pattern of P. edulis AP1/FUL homologues (PeAP1 and PeFUL), by RT-qPCR and in situ hybridization in several tissues, correlating it with the developmental stages of P. edulis. PeAP1 is expressed only in the reproductive stage, and it is highly expressed in tendrils and in flower meristems from the onset of their development. PeAP1 is also expressed in sepals, petals and in corona filaments, suggesting a novel role for PeAP1 in floral organ diversification. PeFUL presented a broad expression pattern in both vegetative and reproductive tissues, and it is also expressed in fruits. Conclusions Our results provide new molecular insights into the morphological diversity in the genus Passiflora. Here, we bring new evidence that tendrils are part of the Passiflora inflorescence. This points to the convergence of similar developmental processes involving the recruitment of genes related to flower identity in the origin of tendrils in different plant families. The data obtained also support the hypothesis that the corona filaments are likely sui generis floral organs. Additionally, we provide an indication that PeFUL acts as a coordinator of passionfruit development

    Put your own “oxygen mask” on first: A behavioral typology of leaders' self-care

    OnlinePublOrganizational leaders are essential in implementing, interpreting, and even proactively initiating changes for human resource (HR) functions to enhance workplace productivity and well-being. However, recent studies have cautioned that providing positive and supportive leadership usually drains these organizational leaders. Although the literature has shed light on how leaders can use self-care strategies to recharge, researchers and HR professionals know relatively little about (1) what specific self-care actions leaders can take and (2) how external crises such as COVID-19 constrain leaders' selfcare actions. To identify specific leaders' self-care behaviors, which we refer to as oxygen masks, we interviewed 41 healthcare managers in Australia during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. We presented a behavioral typology summarizing distinct oxygen masks that leaders used at different points in time. These oxygen masks include improving physical well-being, improving emotional/spiritual/social well-being, fulfilling managerial roles, and seeking collegial and organizational support. Moreover, we concluded that the COVID-19 restrictions made some of these oxygen masks less accessible, negatively impacting leaders' well-being. Our research conclusions have implications for theory and future studies on extending the literature associated with leadership development, leaders' resilience, and leaders' well-being.     One in every 1,000 newborn suffers from congenital hearing impairment. More than 60% of the congenital cases are caused by genetic factors. In most cases, hearing loss is a multifactorial disorder caused by both genetic and environmental factors. Molecular genetics of deafness has experienced remarkable progress in the last decade. Genes responsible for hereditary hearing impairment are being mapped and cloned progressively. This review focuses on non-syndromic hearing loss, since the gene involved in this type of hearing loss have only recently begun to be identified.Aproximadamente 1/1000 recém-nascidos apresentam deficiência auditiva congênita, sendo 60% dessas de etiologia genética. Na maioria dos casos, a deficiência auditiva é uma doença multifatorial causada por ambos os fatores, genéticos e ambientais. A genética molecular da deficiência auditiva tem apresentado grandes avanços na última década, pois os genes responsáveis pela deficiência auditiva hereditária vêm sendo progressivamente mapeados e clonados. Esta revisão enfatiza a deficiência auditiva não-sindrômica, uma vez que, os genes envolvidos nesse tipo de deficiência foram identificados recentemente.21622

    Leishmania amazonensis downregulates macrophage iNOS expression via Histone Deacetylase 1 (HDAC1): a novel parasite evasion mechanism.

    The induced expression of nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) controls the intracellular growth of Leishmania in infected macrophages. Histones deacetylases (HDACs) negatively regulate gene expression through the formation of complexes containing transcription factors such as NF-κB p50/50. Herein, we demonstrated the occupancy of p50/p50_HDAC1 to iNOS promoter associated with reduced levels of H3K9Ac. Remarkably, we found increased levels of HDAC1 in L. amazonensis-infected macrophages. HDAC1 upregulation was not found in L. major-infected macrophages. The parasite intracellular load was reduced in HDAC1 knocked-down macrophages, which presented increased nitric oxide levels. HDAC1 silencing led to the occupancy of CBP/p300 to iNOS promoter and the rise of H3K9Ac modification. Importantly, the immunostaining of skin samples from hiporeactive cutaneous leishmaniasis patients infected with L. amazonensis, revealed high levels of HDAC1. In brief, L. amazonensis induces HDAC1 in infected macrophages, which contribute to parasite survival and is associated to hiporeactive stage found in L. amazonensis infected patients

    Search for direct production of charginos and neutralinos in events with three leptons and missing transverse momentum in √s = 7 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector

    A search for the direct production of charginos and neutralinos in final states with three electrons or muons and missing transverse momentum is presented. The analysis is based on 4.7 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data delivered by the Large Hadron Collider and recorded with the ATLAS detector. Observations are consistent with Standard Model expectations in three signal regions that are either depleted or enriched in Z-boson decays. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set in R-parity conserving phenomenological minimal supersymmetric models and in simplified models, significantly extending previous results
