Grid Information Technology as a New Technological Tool for e-Science, Healthcare and Life Science

Nowadays, scientific projects require collaborative environments and powerful computing resources capable of handling huge quantities of data, which gives rise to e-Science. These requirements are evident in the need to optimise time and efforts in activities to do with health. When e-Science focuses on the collaborative handling of all the information generated in clinical medicine and health, e-Health is the result. Scientists are taking increasing interest in an emerging technology – Grid Information Technology – that may offer a solution to their current needs. The current work aims to survey how e-Science is using this technology all around the world. We also argue that the technology may provide an ideal solution for the new challenges facing e-Health and Life Science.Hoy en día, los proyectos científicos requieren poderosos recursos de computación capaces de manejar grandes cantidades de datos, los cuales han dado paso a la ciencia electrónica (e-ciencia). Estos requerimientos se hacen evidentes en la necesidad de optimizar tiempo y esfuerzos en actividades relacionadas con la salud. Cuando la e-ciencia se enfoca en el manejo colaborativo de toda la información generada en la medicina clínica y la salud, da como resultado la salud electrónica (e-salud). Los científicos se han interesado cada vez más y más en una tecnología emergente, como lo es la Tecnología de información en red, la que puede ofrecer solución a sus necesidades cotidianas. El siguiente trabajo apunta a examinar como la e-ciencia es empleada en el mundo. Los determinantes de la competitividad en las cooperativas

This work intends to identify the determinants of competitivity in cooperatives. The results obtained from a sample of 49 cooperative managers and representatives from the cooperative movement point out that the joint effect of the orientation towards the customer and the participation of the members in the performance is the main determinant of the competitivity. This finding highlights the importance of relational capacity as the key capacity which managers of these firms should have got.Cooperatives, competitivity, orientation towards the customer, participation in the performance.

Environment determinants in business adoption of Cloud Computing

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to analyze the influence of Technology Providers, Public Administrations and R&D Institutions on Cloud Computing adoption. This research also considers Killer Applications and Success Cases as other environmental factors. Design/methodology/approach – Factorial analyses and structural equation models were used on a sample of high-technology firms located in technological parks in Southern Europe, with more than ten employees and sustained investments in R&D. Findings – Results show that Technology Providers and Success Cases are determinant in Cloud Computing adoption. Moreover, Killer Applications are a forerunner for Success Cases. Practical implications – An appropriate fit between the tools and resources provided by suppliers and the internal resources of the company is needed to create competitive advantages. Firms should evaluate Technology Providers, identify Success Cases to Cloud Computing adoption and implement technological benchmarking. Originality/value – This study contributes to Cloud Computing adoption literature because it includes Technology Providers, Public Administrations and R&D Institutions simultaneously as well as other variables as Killer Applications and Success Cases. The importance of the external agents on information technology (IT) adoption, especially when the technologies to be adopted are new and in an emergent stage, together with the lack of prior investigations focusing on specific environmental factors affecting the adoption of these new, emerging IT, justify the value of this research

Gestión del talento en la empresa. Lecciones desde el ámbito deportivo: modelos Fútbol Club Barcelona ‘versus’ Real Madrid Club de Fútbol

El talento es uno de los activos intangibles más importantes de las empresas. No obstante, y aunque existe entre las empresas un interés creciente en determinar cuál es la mejor forma de gestionar el talento, los ejemplos, basados en modelos teóricos, capaces de introducir una referencia clara sobre cómo deben hacerlo son prácticamente inexistentes. En este artículo, a partir del análisis de los casos enfrentados sobre cómo gestionan el talento en el ámbito deportivo dos de los clubs de fútbol más importantes del mundo, el Fútbol Club Barcelona y el Real Madrid Club de Fútbol, se ilustran dos modelos prescriptivos genéricos que pueden servir de referencia para la gestión del talento en la empresa: el primero es el modelo de desarrollo interno del talento y el segundo es el modelo de captura externa del talento. Las lecciones que se derivan del análisis de los casos permiten observar las implicaciones de cada uno de los modelos y poner de manifiesto que ambos modelos son eficaces desde el punto de la vista de la empresa. Sin embargo, el modelo de desarrollo interno del talento presenta mayores repercusiones desde el punto de vista de los recursos humanos

¿Son más competitivas las sociedades cooperativas? Un análisis en el sector de la distribución farmacéutica

The paper investigates whether the co-operative format influences the competitive advantages of companies adopting it. To accomplish this, we have carried out an empirical analysis focusing on retail pharmacy companies operating in 10 provinces of central and southern Spain. The results show that the co-operative companies obtain a greater competitive advantage than non-cooperative forms. This finding could be explained by the peculiar relationship of loyalty binding member- customers of this type of company with the organisation to which they belong.Co-operative Companies, Retail Pharmacy, Competitive Advantage, Customer loyalty.

¿Son más competitivas las sociedades cooperativas? : un análisis en el sector de la distribución farmacéutica

Este trabajo investiga si la formula cooperativa influye en la ventaja competitiva de las empresas que la revisten. Para ello, hemos realizado un análisis empírico centrado en las empresas de distribución farmacéutica que operan en 10 provincias del Centro y Sur de España. Los resultados muestran que las sociedades cooperativas obtienen una mayor ventaja competitiva que las empresas no cooperativas. Este hallazgo puede explicarse en función de la peculiar relación de lealtad que vincula al socio-cliente de este tipo de sociedades con la organización a la que pertenecen.Ce travail vise à déterminer si la formule coopérative a une influence sur la compétitivité des entreprises qui l'ont adoptée. Pour ce faire, nous avons réalisé une analyse empirique axée sur les entreprises de distribution pharmaceutique exerçant leur activité dans 10 provinces du Centre et du Sud de l'Espagne. Les résultats montrent que les sociétés coopératives sont plus compétitives que les sociétés non coopératives. Diseño e implementación de una plataforma ERP como entorno de aprendizaje en Dirección de Operaciones

[EN] Given the increasing business use of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, it is necessary to have such platforms for application in the teaching-learning process in Operations Management. However, the implementation of commercial solutions is not adequate due to its high cost and to exceed the conceptual learning function, which is the main objective of this software tool with the students of Operations Management. Due to this, in this work we present the design and implementation of an ERP platform based on Open Source software and virtualization technologies. INSERLAB: una aplicación telemática para determinar la inserción laboral de los egresados andaluces

El presente artículo recoge el trabajo de un grupo de profesores de la Universidad de Jaén y Oviedo para desarrollar una aplicación telemática que permita identificar la inserción laboral de los egresados universitarios.
