Food Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Indonesia have low competitiveness but receive less attention in innovation research. This study aims to analyze the relationship between innovation capability and competitiveness of food SMEs and to analyze the role of government policies in strengthening that relationship during the Covid-19 pandemic. Data were collected using an online questionnaire from food SMEs in Malang Regency. There were 162 returned and valid questionnaires for analysis. The results of the study prove that innovation capability was strongly related to the competitiveness of food SMEs. Government policies through training, credit, and marketing strengthen the relationship between product innovation and competitiveness, while it weakening the relationship between process innovation and the competitiveness of food SMEs. The Covid-19 pandemic is an externality factor that hinders resource mobility so that the production process is reduced which in turn has a negative impact on the competitiveness of food SMEs

    Get PDF
This study aims to investigate the impact of eco-innovation on environmental performance, economic performance, as well as the reputation of firms. Based on the theoretical and empirical literature on eco-innovation, we develop our research hypotheses and our conceptual model and then we test them in the Tunisian context. To do this, we conducted a survey of 159 industrial firms in Tunisia, divided into three groups as follows: a first group formed by 25 non-innovative firms, the second group includes 73 technologically innovative firms and a third group with 61 eco-innovative firms. We applied a principal component analysis and a multiple regression to the 61 companies having already achieved eco-innovations. The results show that eco-innovation has a significant impact on the environmental performance and reputation of companies. However, it does not directly improve economic performance

Mental Accounting in Grocery Settings: Evidence of In-Store Slack from the Expected Cost of the Basket

    Get PDF
The evidence from field studies in retail environments suggests in-store slack is part of the consumer’s purchasing budget. These funds are used as a self-control mechanism so as not to exceed the budget. We propose a conceptualization of in-store slack as the difference between the expected cost of the basket and the total budget allocated for the present visit to the store. Then, we explain this slack from the composition of the customer’s basket in three branches of a supermarket chain. Using data taken from a field study, we found evidence that in-store slack is used fundamentally for unplanned purchases, which is consistent with the notion that these funds are used to finance products where the decision to purchase is made in-store. We also found evidence of unused budgetary resources being transferred to in-store slack to finance unplanned products. This supports the idea that consumers are flexible when managing their mental accounts

Adaptive Regional Innovation Systems: Addressing Latin America\u27s Challenges

    Get PDF
This study aims to present the definition and characteristics of regional innovation systems as well as actions focused on their development. For this purpose, the present study uses the neo-Schumpeterian theoretical bibliography as support for the analysis. The conclusions point out that in the Brazilian territory, companies, universities, research institutes, government institutions, among other actors, develop interactive and cooperative relationships that enable innovative development. In this field, there are habits, values, cultures, and their own productive and institutional structures that enable different patterns of regional innovation systems. It is up to the State to play the role of promoter of regional development, given its capacity to mediate interaction, deliver political articulation, and foster innovation programs. Development policies aimed at interaction and cooperation, learning processes, the formation of joint strategies, and the availability of resources are highlighted

Investigating Determinants of Technology Transfer in Thailand: A Comprehensive Methodological Framework Considering the Viewpoints of Adopters and Developers

    Get PDF
This study presents a systematic process to evaluate pivotal factors influencing technology transfer within the Thailand context, incorporating the perceptions of both technology adopters and developers. Utilizing a rigorous triangulation of methods, including preliminary assessments, extensive interviews, and a systematically structured questionnaire, the Evaluation Matrix of Technology Transfer (EMTT) was formulated. The EMTT encompasses six fundamental components: 1) Knowledge/Know-how, 2) Artifacts, 3) User Insight, 4) Marketing, 5) Intellectual Property, and 6) Technology Transfer Management. Notably, among these, Artifacts emerged as paramount. Divergences in perspectives between adopters and developers became evident. While adopters underscored the alignment of research outputs with user requirements, developers accentuated the importance of adept management in technology transfer. In addition, a discernable discrepancy was observed in six evaluative aspects; adopters placed a premium on the R&D prowess of researchers, whereas developers highlighted the value of research collaboration with the industrial sector. Collectively, this robust assessment paradigm offers pertinent insights, underscoring the imperatives for judicious decision-making and fostering efficacious technology transfer processes within Thailand

A Modified Innovation Resistance Theory Approach to E-Tourism Resistance Intention in Bangladesh

    Get PDF
Technology adoption in business is essential for advancement, even if it frequently encounters user resistance. The current study model examined the resistance to adopting e-tourism by online tourists in Bangladesh using the innovation resistance theory (IRT) components such as usage barriers, value barriers, risk barriers, tradition barriers, and image barriers. The influence of technophobia and facilitating conditions were considered to extend the IRT model. The purposive sampling technique was utilized in this study. Data were collected using both Google Forms and printed questionnaires from users of online travel agencies in Bangladesh. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to analyze data from 292 online travelers. SPSS version 25 and AMOS version 26 were used for the analysis. Results showed that technophobia is the leading cause of resistance to e-tourism, followed by facilitating conditions, risk barriers, tradition barriers, and usage barriers. However, the current study has significant theoretical and practical ramifications for executives of the e-tourism industry with regard to developing strategies to deal with the factors responsible for the resistance to e-tourism
