Bycatch in 36 and 40 mm PA Turkish twin rigged beam trawl codends

The Turkish twin rigged beam trawl which has two identical nets rigged side by side on the same beam targets mainly the Parapenaeus longirostris, although some bycatch fish species have also become target species. Thus, landings of the shrimp beam trawling fleet also include some commercially valuable fishes. Our study focused on the bycatch commercial species which are caught by the beam trawl fishery with nominal mesh sizes 36 and 40 mm PA (diamond) codend in the Sea of Marmara (Turkey) and also on the minimum landing size (MLS) established for Merluccius merluccius, Merlangius merlangus euxinus, Mullus surmuletus, Trachurus trachurus and Pomatomus saltatrix. Since there was no MLS value for Spicara smaris, the length at first maturity (LFM) was used for this species. Experiments were carried out onboard the commercial beam trawler. In 20 hauls, the average codend catch weight was 63.12 kg for 36 mm PA and 66.51 kg for 40 mm PA. On the other hand, for 36 mm PA, 83.5% of M. merluccius, 74.3% of M. merlangus euxinus, 29.7% of T. trachurus, 10.8% of P. saltatrix and 8.6% of M. surmuletus were below the MLS. For 40 mm PA, 88.9% of M. merlangus euxinus, 87.7% of M. merluccius, 42.5% of T. trachurus, 7.2% of P. saltatrix and 6.7% of M. surmuletus were below MLS. Auswirkungen von Kooperationsverhältnissen auf die wahrgenommene Nachhaltigkeit in Verbundprojekten

Kooperation ist seit vielen Jahrzehnten ein zentrales Thema in Forschung, Lehre und Weiterbildung, wobei insbesondere die Zusammenarbeit mit außerhochschulischen Partnern im Vordergrund steht. Ungeachtet der zahlreichen Herausforderungen sowie der bestehenden Konkurrenzverhältnisse, werden auch zunehmend Kooperationen zwischen wissenschaftlichen Weiterbildungseinrichtungen verschiedener Hochschulen eingegangen. Ein Grund hierfür könnte das Interesse von Fördermittelgebern an Verbünden bei der Beantragung und Umsetzung von Forschungs- und Entwicklungsprojekten sein, um zum einen Synergieeffekte zu nutzen und zum anderen die Vernetzung zu fördern und damit nachhaltige(re) Ergebnisse zu erreichen. Vor diesem Hintergrund widmet sich der vorliegende Beitrag der Fragestellung, welche Auswirkungen die Kooperation in geförderten Verbundprojekten auf die wahrgenommene Nachhaltigkeit hat. Nicole Brossard's L'Amèr undercuts and disarms the hegemony of the phallocentric signifier; the text destabilizes any fixed, authoritative relationship of exchange between writer and reader. The syntactical fragments of the text parallel the deconstructive activity of the depicted narrator, who explicitly juxtaposes an act of violence with an act of writing; the violence of the narrator symbolizes the rejection of the inarticulate pain of the hysteric, who harms herself to attract attention. Brossard's text demonstrates that linguistic activity has always been intimately connected with man's oppression of women, and any attempt to do violence to such oppression necessarily entails an attempt to do violence to discourse -- language is the site of struggle. Brossard's text focuses on the material corporeality of writing rather than the efficient production of meaning. The lesbian experience defies the control of phallocentric ideology by imbricating the poetic and the erotic -- the narrator breaks the "sentence," the linguistic prison, in order to synthesize the poetic (the body of the text) and the erotic (the text of the body) into a "cortex": a body language resistant to the violent abstractions of masculine discourse

The Word Entrances: Virtual Realities in Dewdney's Log Entries

Christopher Dewdney's Log Entries explores the solipsism of consciousness by parodying a traditional genre of objective documentation; the text documents consciousness perceiving reality as a side-effect of consciousness and thereby becomes such a side-effect, ultimately calling into question the whole project of objective interpretation. The text operates upon the principle that, if the senses are deceptive, then all knowledge built upon empirical evidence may be nothing more than a fragile web of illusions; it explores the implications of such neurolinguistic solipsism. The text acts as a metaphorical model of perceptual experience; the identity of the male chronicler (if he is a single person) appears to be fragmented, playing various roles interchangeably: both a performer of an experiment and a performer in an experiment. Log Entries can be read as a ciphered text that does violence to itself in order to provide misinformation for a reader who aspires to textual omniscience
