    Effect due to charge symmetry violation on the Paschos-Wolfenstein relation

    The modification of the Paschos-Wolfenstein relation is investigated when the charge symmetry violations of valence and sea quark distributions in the nucleon are taken into account. We also study qualitatively the impact of charge symmetry violation (CSV) effect on the extraction of sin⁥2Ξw\sin^{2}\theta_{w} from deep inelastic neutrino- and antineutrino-nuclei scattering within the light-cone meson-baryon fluctuation model. We find that the effect of CSV is too small to give a sizable contribution to the NuTeV result with various choices of mass difference inputs, which is consistence with the prediction that the strange-antistrange asymmetry can account for largely the NuTeV deviation in this model. It is noticeable that the effect of CSV might contribute to the NuTeV deviation when the larger difference between the internal momentum scales, αp\alpha_{p} of the proton and αn\alpha_{n} of the neutron, is considered.Comment: 15 Latex pages, no figure, final version to appear in PR

    Principle of Balance and the Sea Content of the Proton

    In this study, the proton is taken as an ensemble of quark-gluon Fock states. Using the principle of balance that every Fock state should be balanced with all of the nearby Fock states (denoted as the balance model), instead of the principle of detailed balance that any two nearby Fock states should be balanced with each other (denoted as the detailed balance model), the probabilities of finding every Fock state of the proton are obtained. The balance model can be taken as a revised version of the detailed balance model, which can give an excellent description of the light flavor sea asymmetry (i.e., uˉ=Ìždˉ\bar{u}\not= \bar{d}) without any parameter. In case of g⇔ggg\Leftrightarrow gg sub-processes not considered, the balance model and the detailed balance model give the same results. In case of g⇔ggg\Leftrightarrow gg sub-processes considered, there is about 10 percent difference between the results of these models.     The CDF dijet excess from intrinsic quarks

    The CDF collaboration reported an excess in the production of two jets in association with a WW. We discuss constraints on possible new particle state interpretations of this excess. The fact of no statistically significant deviation from the SM expectation for {ZZ+dijet} events in CDF data disfavors the new particle explanation. We show that the nucleon intrinsic strange quarks provide an important contribution to the WW boson production in association with a single top quark production. Such {WW+t} single top quark production can contribute to the CDF {WW+dijet} excess, thus the nucleon intrinsic quarks can provide a possible explanation to the CDF excess in {WW+dijet} but not in {ZZ+dijet} events.Comment: 4 latex pages, 1 figure.     The cos 2 phi asymmetry of Drell-Yan and J/psi production in unpolarized ppbar scattering

    We investigate the cos 2 phi azimuthal asymmetry in Drell--Yan and J/psi production from unpolarized ppbar scattering at GSI-HESR energies. The contribution to this asymmetry arising from the leading-twist Boer-Mulders function h_1^perp(x, k_T^2), which describes a correlation between the transverse momentum and the transverse spin of quarks in an unpolarized hadron, is explicitly evaluated, and predictions for the GSI-HESR kinematic regime are presented. We show that the cos 2 phi asymmetry is quite sizable both on the J/psi peak and in the Drell-Yan continuum region. Therefore these processes may offer an experimentally viable access to the Boer-Mulders function in the early unpolarized stage of GSI experiments.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, to be published in Eur.     Beauty photoproduction measured using decays into muons in dijet events in ep collisions at s\sqrt{s}=318 GeV

    The photoproduction of beauty quarks in events with two jets and a muon has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 110 pb−1^{- 1}. The fraction of jets containing b quarks was extracted from the transverse momentum distribution of the muon relative to the closest jet. Differential cross sections for beauty production as a function of the transverse momentum and pseudorapidity of the muon, of the associated jet and of xγjetsx_{\gamma}^{jets}, the fraction of the photon's momentum participating in the hard process, are compared with MC models and QCD predictions made at next-to-leading order.     Search for a narrow charmed baryonic state decaying to D^*+/- p^-/+ in ep collisions at HERA

    A resonance search has been made in the D^*+/- p^-/+ invariant-mass spectrum with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 126 pb^-1. The decay channels D^*+ -> D^0 pi^+_s -> (K^- pi^+) pi^+_s and D^*+ -> D^0 pi^+_s -> (K^- pi^+ pi^+ pi^-) pi^+_s (and the corresponding antiparticle decays) were used to identify D^*+/- mesons. No resonance structure was observed in the D^*+/- p^-/+ mass spectrum from more than 60000 reconstructed D^*+/- mesons.     Light flavor asymmetry of nucleon sea

    The light flavor antiquark distributions of the nucleon sea are calculated in the effective chiral quark model and compared with experimental results. The contributions of the flavor-symmetric sea-quark distributions and the nuclear EMC effect are taken into account to obtain the ratio of Drell-Yan cross sections σpD/2σpp\sigma^{\mathrm{pD}}/2\sigma^{\mathrm{pp}}, which can match well with the results measured in the FermiLab E866/NuSea experiment. The calculated results also match the measured dˉ(x)−uˉ(x)\bar{d}(x)-\bar{u}(x) from different experiments, but unmatch the behavior of dˉ(x)/uˉ(x)\bar{d}(x)/\bar{u}(x) derived indirectly from the measurable quantity σpD/2σpp\sigma^{\mathrm{pD}}/2\sigma^{\mathrm{pp}} by the FermiLab E866/NuSea Collaboration at large xx. We suggest to measure again dˉ(x)/uˉ(x)\bar{d}(x)/\bar{u}(x) at large xx from precision experiments with careful experimental data treatment.
