    The knowledge of anatomical and phytochemical structures of many species has drawn the attention of researchers in several areas, because these species are characterized by the production of chemical compounds, mainly fixed and essential oils, which are of great industrial interest. The “pequiá” tree is a majestic tree from primary forest and represents huge economic potential. This work aimed to study the anatomical aspects, extraction and characterization of the fixed oil present in the fruit and the seed of Caryocar villosum. There were used fifty fruits of pequiá collected from the municipality of Tartarugalzinho (Amapá). The identification of species was made by comparison with exsiccates available in the Amapá Herbarium – HAMAB. For anatomical and phytochemical analyses, conventional methodology was used. The result in the macerate of the mesocarp corresponds to a yellow mass impregnated by lipids; in the endocarp there were registered trichomes which secret these lipids, forming an arc in all its extension. In the solvent-based phytochemical analyses of the mass of pericarp, mesocarp and fixed oil seed, favorable and satisfactory oil yields were obtained. The analyses of the acidity, saponification, ester and peroxide indexes are parameters that are related to the quality of the oil, therefore, the values obtained meet the Anvisa/2015 Resolution. It is thus concluded that the fixed oil obtained from the mesocarp/seed of C. villosum is indicated for alimentary purposes, with potential to reduce total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, as well as in cosmetic industry.     Nursing assistance in child care in Brazil: an integrative literature review / Assistência de enfermagem na puericultura no Brasil: uma revisão integrativa da literatura

    INTRODUCTION: Childcare begins with nursing after prenatal care when the nurse accompanies the pregnant woman and performs actions and guidance on the care of the baby. OBJECTIVE: To describe the importance of the nurse's assistance in the child care consultation. METHODOLOGY: This is an integrative review of the literature. The inclusion criteria were: original articles, in the period of 2013-2017; in the Portuguese language. RESULTS: The studies revealed that through reception, bonding, qualified listening and prior scheduling it is possible to guarantee the quality of care and a better adherence of this family to the childcare program. CONCLUSION: It is concluded that the role of nursing in childcare begins from its gestation, through guidelines for the care that this pregnant woman will have with her baby at birth, neonatal screening, such as the test of the foot, test of the ear, tongue test, eye and little heart test, immunization surveillance, body hygiene, guidance on breastfeeding and the child's first meals and follow-up of growth and development

    Objetivou-se com este trabalho relatar um caso de linfoma imunoblástico em uma cadela diagnosticado pelo exame citopatológico. Analisou-se um animal da espécie canina, fêmea, sem raça definida, cinco anos de idade, procedente do Hospital Veterinário da Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco. De acordo com o histórico, o animal apresentou há aproximadamente três meses edema submandibular e em membros pélvicos que persistiam, com posterior aparecimento de nodulações nestas regiões, além de emagrecimento progressivo. Ao exame clínico foi constatado o aumento generalizado dos linfonodos superficiais e severa hipertrofia dos linfonodos submandibulares. Realizou-se a coleta de amostras dos linfonodos superficiais pela técnica de Citologia Aspirativa por Agulha Fina (CAAF), para diagnóstico citopatológico. A análise microscópica da amostra obtida pela CAAF revelou alta celularidade, presença de população de células de perfil linfocitário, compatíveis com imunoblastos, apresentando diâmetro nuclear variando entre uma e meia a duas hemácias, cromatina vesicular e nucléolo proeminente e central, citoplasma de basofilia leve a moderada. Foram observados também mitoses atípicas, acentuado pleomorfismo celular, anisocitose e anisocariose. Neste relato o linfoma foi anatomicamente classificado em multicêntrico. As alterações descritas ao exame citopatológico associadas ao histórico clínico do animal são compatíveis com linfoma imunoblástico de alto grau, sendo este o primeiro registro em um cão no estado de Pernambuco. A classificação citomorfológica associada a outros parâmetros pode propiciar ao médico veterinário um adequado direcionamento terapêutico, bem como auxiliar no estabelecimento do prognóstico

    Evaluation of the toxicity and molluscicidal and larvicidal activities of Schinopsis brasiliensis stem bark extract and its fractions

    Dengue fever and schistosomiasis are major public health issues for which vector control using larvicide and molluscicide substances present in plants provides a promising strategy. This study evaluated the potential toxicity of the extract of hydroethanol Schinopsis brasiliensis Engl., Anacardiaceae, stem bark and its chloroform, hexane, ethyl acetate, and hydromethanol fractions against Artemia salina and Aedes Aegypti larvae and snails Biomphalaria glabrata. All of the assays were performed in triplicate and the mean mortality rates were used to determine the LC50 and LC90 values using the probit method. The hydroethanol hydromethanol extract and fraction were free of toxicity towards A. salina (LC50 > 1000 µg/ml), while chloroform fraction was moderately toxic (LC50 313 µg/ml); ethyl acetate and hexane fractions displayed low toxicity, with LC50 557 and 582 µg/ml, respectively. Chloroform, hexane, and ethyl acetate fractions showed larvicidal potential towards A. aegypti (LC50 values of 345, 527 and 583 µg/ml, respectively), while chloroform and ethyl acetate fractions were highly toxic to B. glabrata (LC90 values of 68 and 73 µg/ml, respectively). Based on these findings, ethyl acetate, chloroform, and hexane fractions should be further investigated for their potential use against the vectors of dengue and schistosomiasis

    Clonal chromosomal mosaicism and loss of chromosome Y in elderly men increase vulnerability for SARS-CoV-2

    The pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19) had an estimated overall case fatality ratio of 1.38% (pre-vaccination), being 53% higher in males and increasing exponentially with age. Among 9578 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 in the SCOURGE study, we found 133 cases (1.42%) with detectable clonal mosaicism for chromosome alterations (mCA) and 226 males (5.08%) with acquired loss of chromosome Y (LOY). Individuals with clonal mosaic events (mCA and/or LOY) showed a 54% increase in the risk of COVID-19 lethality. LOY is associated with transcriptomic biomarkers of immune dysfunction, pro-coagulation activity and cardiovascular risk. Interferon-induced genes involved in the initial immune response to SARS-CoV-2 are also down-regulated in LOY. Thus, mCA and LOY underlie at least part of the sex-biased severity and mortality of COVID-19 in aging patients. Given its potential therapeutic and prognostic relevance, evaluation of clonal mosaicism should be implemented as biomarker of COVID-19 severity in elderly people.     Differential cross section measurements for the production of a W boson in association with jets in proton–proton collisions at √s = 7 TeV

    Measurements are reported of differential cross sections for the production of a W boson, which decays into a muon and a neutrino, in association with jets, as a function of several variables, including the transverse momenta (pT) and pseudorapidities of the four leading jets, the scalar sum of jet transverse momenta (HT), and the difference in azimuthal angle between the directions of each jet and the muon. The data sample of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV was collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb[superscript −1]. The measured cross sections are compared to predictions from Monte Carlo generators, MadGraph + pythia and sherpa, and to next-to-leading-order calculations from BlackHat + sherpa. The differential cross sections are found to be in agreement with the predictions, apart from the pT distributions of the leading jets at high pT values, the distributions of the HT at high-HT and low jet multiplicity, and the distribution of the difference in azimuthal angle between the leading jet and the muon at low values.United States.     Juxtaposing BTE and ATE – on the role of the European insurance industry in funding civil litigation

    One of the ways in which legal services are financed, and indeed shaped, is through private insurance arrangement. Two contrasting types of legal expenses insurance contracts (LEI) seem to dominate in Europe: before the event (BTE) and after the event (ATE) legal expenses insurance. Notwithstanding institutional differences between different legal systems, BTE and ATE insurance arrangements may be instrumental if government policy is geared towards strengthening a market-oriented system of financing access to justice for individuals and business. At the same time, emphasizing the role of a private industry as a keeper of the gates to justice raises issues of accountability and transparency, not readily reconcilable with demands of competition. Moreover, multiple actors (clients, lawyers, courts, insurers) are involved, causing behavioural dynamics which are not easily predicted or influenced. Against this background, this paper looks into BTE and ATE arrangements by analysing the particularities of BTE and ATE arrangements currently available in some European jurisdictions and by painting a picture of their respective markets and legal contexts. This allows for some reflection on the performance of BTE and ATE providers as both financiers and keepers. Two issues emerge from the analysis that are worthy of some further reflection. Firstly, there is the problematic long-term sustainability of some ATE products. Secondly, the challenges faced by policymakers that would like to nudge consumers into voluntarily taking out BTE LEI
