    Comparison of K+K^+ and ee^- Quasielastic Scattering

    We formulate K+K^+-nucleus quasielastic scattering in a manner which closely parallels standard treatments of ee^--nucleus quasielastic scattering. For K+K^+ scattering, new responses involving scalar contributions appear in addition to the Coulomb (or longitudinal) and transverse (e,e)(e,e') responses which are of vector character. We compute these responses using both nuclear matter and finite nucleus versions of the Relativistic Hartree Approximation to Quantum Hadrodynamics including RPA correlations. Overall agreement with measured (e,e)(e,e') responses and new K+K^+ quasielastic scattering data for 40^{40}Ca at |\qs|=500 MeV/c is good. Strong RPA quenching is essential for agreement with the Coulomb response. This quenching is notably less for the K+K^+ cross section even though the new scalar contributions are even more strongly quenched than the vector contributions. We show that this ``differential quenching'' alters sensitive cancellations in the expression for the K+K^+ cross section so that it is reduced much less than the individual responses. We emphasize the role of the purely relativistic distinction between vector and scalar contributions in obtaining an accurate and consistent description of the (e,e)(e,e') and K+K^+ data within the framework of our nuclear structure model.Comment: 26 pages, 5 uuencoded figures appended to end of this fil

    1 recurso en línea (75 páginas) : gráficasLa presente investigación buscó identificar los beneficios de implementar la estrategia didáctica de “aula invertida” en el proceso de aprendizaje del concepto función. Para el desarrollo de ésta se llevó a cabo la revisión de la literatura acerca de esta metodología y las investigaciones previamente realizadas implementando dicho modelo. Como el aula invertida no presenta un esquema riguroso ni una serie de actividades que presenten obligatoriedad, se decidió trabajar mediante la presentación de videos escogidos por el investigador y los cuales fueron observados por los estudiantes; posteriormente cada grupo de estudiantes debió presentar ante sus compañeros una exposición en la que presentaron lo que habían entendido del tema; luego de las exposiciones se evaluó el conocimiento adquirido por ellos, además se realizaron algunas actividades grupales con la asesoría del profesor, punto en el cual se realizó la formalización del concepto en estudio, para finalmente ser evaluado por última vez en este proceso de aprendizaje. El proceso muestra buenos resultados, y deja ver así el aula invertida como una oportunidad de aprendizaje de dicho concepto en la población en la que se realizó la investigación.Bibliografía y webgrafía: páginas 61-64MaestríaMagíster en Educación Matemátic

    Economic Evaluation and Transferability of Physical Activity Programmes in Primary Prevention: A Systematic Review

    This systematic review aims to assess the characteristics of, and the clinical and economic evidence provided by, economic evaluations of primary preventive physical exercise interventions, and to analyse their transferability to Germany using recommended checklists. Fifteen economic evaluations from seven different countries met eligibility criteria, with seven of the fifteen providing high economic evidence in the special country context. Most of the identified studies conclude that the investigated intervention provide good value for money compared with alternatives. However, this review shows a high variability of the costing methods between the studies, which limits comparability, generalisability and transferability of the results

    Molecular epidemiology of a hepatitis C virus epidemic in a haemodialysis unit: outbreak investigation and infection outcome

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>HCV is a leading cause of liver chronic diseases all over the world. In developed countries the highest prevalence of infection is reported among intravenous drug users and haemodialysis (HD) patients. The present report is to identify the pathway of HCV transmission during an outbreak of HCV infection in a privately run haemodialysis (HD) unit in Italy in 2005.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Dynamics of the outbreak and infection clinical outcomes were defined through an ambi-directional cohort study. Molecular epidemiology techniques were used to define the relationships between the viral variants infecting the patients and confirm the outbreak. Risk analysis and auditing procedures were carried out to define the transmission pathway(s).</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Of the 50 patients treated in the HD unit 5 were already anti-HCV positive and 13 became positive during the study period (AR = 28.9%). Phylogenic analysis identified that, all the molecularly characterized incident cases (10 out of 13), were infected with the same viral variant of one of the prevalent cases. The multivariate analysis and the auditing procedure disclosed a single event of multi-dose vials heparin contamination as the cause of transmission of the infection in 11 out of the 13 incident cases; 2 additional incident cases occurred possibly as a result of inappropriate risk management.</p> <p>Discussion</p> <p>More than 30% of all HCV infections in developed countries results from poor application of standard precautions during percutaneous procedures. Comprehensive strategy which included: educational programmes, periodical auditing on standard precaution, use of single-dose vials whenever possible, prospective surveillance for blood-borne infections (including a system of prompt notification) and risk assessment/management dedicated staff are the cornerstone to contain and prevent outbreaks in HD</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The outbreak described should serve as a reminder to HD providers that patients undergoing dialysis are at risk for HCV infection and that HCV may be easily transmitted whenever standard precautions are not strictly applied.</p

    The multidimensional spectrum of imagination: Images, Dreams, Hallucinations, and Active, Imaginative Perception.

    A theory of the structure and cognitive function of the human imagination that attempts to do justice to traditional intuitions about its psychological centrality is developed, largely through a detailed critique of the theory propounded by Colin McGinn. Like McGinn, I eschew the highly deflationary views of imagination, common amongst analytical philosophers, that treat it either as a conceptually incoherent notion, or as psychologically trivial. However, McGinn fails to develop his alternative account satisfactorily because (following Reid, Wittgenstein and Sartre) he draws an excessively sharp, qualitative distinction between imagination and perception, and because of his flawed, empirically ungrounded conception of hallucination. His arguments in defense of these views are rebutted in detail, and the traditional, passive, Cartesian view of visual perception, upon which several of them implicitly rely, is criticized in the light of findings from recent cognitive science and neuroscience. It is also argued that the apparent intuitiveness of the passive view of visual perception is a result of mere historical contingency. An understanding of perception (informed by modern visual science) as an inherently active process enables us to unify our accounts of perception, mental imagery, dreaming, hallucination, creativity, and other aspects of imagination within a single coherent theoretical framework

    Open Data from the Third Observing Run of LIGO, Virgo, KAGRA, and GEO

    The global network of gravitational-wave observatories now includes five detectors, namely LIGO Hanford, LIGO Livingston, Virgo, KAGRA, and GEO 600. These detectors collected data during their third observing run, O3, composed of three phases: O3a starting in 2019 April and lasting six months, O3b starting in 2019 November and lasting five months, and O3GK starting in 2020 April and lasting two weeks. In this paper we describe these data and various other science products that can be freely accessed through the Gravitational Wave Open Science Center at https://gwosc.org. The main data set, consisting of the gravitational-wave strain time series that contains the astrophysical signals, is released together with supporting data useful for their analysis and documentation, tutorials, as well as analysis software packages
