Handoff optimization in 802.11 wireless networks
In 802.11 wireless networks, a complete handoff procedure for a mobile node requires access point (AP) selection, AP switch, call admission control (CAC), IP address re-allocation, and network re-configuration. Most current handoff schemes deal only with either AP selection or IP address re-allocation. In this paper, an integrated handoff procedure is proposed. First, AP selection is accomplished by choosing an AP with the lowest channel utilization and smaller number of associated users. The information about load of each AP is reported through modified beacon frames. In the case of adopting load-based AP selection, the average throughput can be increased up to 56%, as opposed to pure SNR-based AP selection. Next, both CAC and IP address pre-fetch are performed simultaneously through the simplified DHCP procedure. Specifically, efficient limited fractional guard channel policy (ELFGCP) is proposed for the CAC phase. By adopting ELFGCP, the failure probability can be reduced as much as 45% from conventional LFGCP. Finally, the simulation results demonstrate the applicability of the integrated approach, and the overall disconnection time due to handoff can be reduced from 2.9 to 0.004 s using traditional handoff procedures
The BPS Domain Wall Solutions in Self-Dual Chern-Simons-Higgs Systems
We study domain wall solitons in the relativistic self-dual Chern-Simons
Higgs systems by the dimensional reduction method to two dimensional spacetime.
The Bogomolny bound on the energy is given by two conserved quantities in a
similar way that the energy bound for BPS dyons is set in some Yang-Mills-Higgs
systems in four dimensions. We find the explicit soliton configurations which
saturate the energy bound and their nonrelativistic counter parts. We also
discuss the underlying N=2 supersymmetry.Comment: 16 pages, LaTeX, no figure, a minor change in acknowledgment
SELF-DUAL ANYONS IN UNIFORM BACKGROUND FIELDS
We study relativistic self-dual Chern-Simons-Higgs systems in the presence of
uniform background fields that explicitly break CTP. A rich, but discrete
vacuum structure is found when the gauge symmetry is spontaneously broken,
while the symmetric phase can have an infinite vacuum degeneracy at tree level.
The latter is due to the proliferation of neutral solitonic states that cost
zero energy. Various novel self-dual solitons, such as these, are found in both
the symmetric and the asymmetric phases. Also by considering a similar system
on a two-sphere and the subsequent large sphere limit, we isolate sensible and
finite expressions for the conserved angular and linear momenta, which satisfy
anomalous commutation relations. We conclude with a few remarks on unresolved
issues.Comment: LaTeX, 20 pages, 4 uuencoded figures included
Simulation of Dimensionally Reduced SYM-Chern-Simons Theory
A supersymmetric formulation of a three-dimensional SYM-Chern-Simons theory
using light-cone quantization is presented, and the supercharges are calculated
in light-cone gauge. The theory is dimensionally reduced by requiring all
fields to be independent of the transverse dimension. The result is a
non-trivial two-dimensional supersymmetric theory with an adjoint scalar and an
adjoint fermion. We perform a numerical simulation of this SYM-Chern-Simons
theory in 1+1 dimensions using SDLCQ (Supersymmetric Discrete Light-Cone
Quantization). We find that the character of the bound states of this theory is
very different from previously considered two-dimensional supersymmetric gauge
theories. The low-energy bound states of this theory are very ``QCD-like.'' The
wave functions of some of the low mass states have a striking valence
structure. We present the valence and sea parton structure functions of these
states. In addition, we identify BPS-like states which are almost independent
of the coupling. Their masses are proportional to their parton number in the
large-coupling limit.Comment: 18pp. 7 figures, uses REVTe
Acute anal stretch inhibits NMDA-dependent pelvic-urethra reflex potentiation via spinal GABAergic inhibition in anesthetized rats
The impact of acute anal stretch on the pelvic-urethra reflex potentiation was examined in urethane-anesthetized rats by recording the external urethra sphincter electromyogram activity evoked by the pelvic afferent stimulation. Test stimulation (1 stimulation/30 s) evoked a baseline reflex activity with a single action potential that was abolished by gallamine (5 mg/kg iv). On the other hand, the repetitive stimulation (1 stimulation/1 s) induced spinal reflex potentiation (SRP) that was attenuated by intrathecal 6-cyano-7-nitroquinoxaline- 2,4-dione (a glutamatergic alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl- 4-isoxazoleproprionat receptor antagonist, 100 mu M, 10 mu l) and D-2-amino-5-phosphonovalerate [a glutamatergic N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) antagonist, 100 mu M, 10 mu l]. Acute anal stretch using a mosquito clamp with a distance of 4 mm exhibited no effect, whereas distances of 8 mm attenuated and 12 mm abolished the repetitive stimulation-induced SRP. Intrathecal NMDA (100 mu M, 10 mu l) reversed the abolition on SRP caused by anal stretch. On the other hand, pretreated bicuculline [gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) A receptor antagonist, 100 mu M, 10 mu l] but not hydroxysaclofen (GABA(B) receptor antagonist) counteracted the abolition on the repetitive stimulation-induced SRP caused by the anal stretch. All of the results suggested that anal stretch may be used as an adjunct to assist voiding dysfunction in patients with overactive urethra sphincter and that GABAergic neurotransmission is important in the neural mechanisms underlying external urethra sphincter activity inhibited by anal stretch
Properties of the Bound States of Super-Yang-Mills-Chern-Simons Theory
We apply supersymmetric discrete light-cone quantization (SDLCQ) to the study
of supersymmetric Yang-Mills-Chern-Simons (SYM-CS) theory on R x S^1 x S^1. One
of the compact directions is chosen to be light-like and the other to be
space-like. Since the SDLCQ regularization explicitly preserves supersymmetry,
this theory is totally finite, and thus we can solve for bound-state wave
functions and masses numerically without renormalizing. The Chern-Simons term
is introduced here to provide masses for the particles while remaining totally
within a supersymmetric context. We examine the free, weak and strong-coupling
spectrum. The transverse direction is discussed as a model for universal extra
dimensions in the gauge sector. The wave functions are used to calculate the
structure functions of the lowest mass states. We discuss the properties of
Kaluza-Klein states and focus on how they appear at strong coupling. We also
discuss a set of anomalously light states which are reflections of the exact
Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield states of the underlying SYM theory.Comment: 20pp., 21 figure
Search for a W' boson decaying to a bottom quark and a top quark in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV
Results are presented from a search for a W' boson using a dataset
corresponding to 5.0 inverse femtobarns of integrated luminosity collected
during 2011 by the CMS experiment at the LHC in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV.
The W' boson is modeled as a heavy W boson, but different scenarios for the
couplings to fermions are considered, involving both left-handed and
right-handed chiral projections of the fermions, as well as an arbitrary
mixture of the two. The search is performed in the decay channel W' to t b,
leading to a final state signature with a single lepton (e, mu), missing
transverse energy, and jets, at least one of which is tagged as a b-jet. A W'
boson that couples to fermions with the same coupling constant as the W, but to
the right-handed rather than left-handed chiral projections, is excluded for
masses below 1.85 TeV at the 95% confidence level. For the first time using LHC
data, constraints on the W' gauge coupling for a set of left- and right-handed
coupling combinations have been placed. These results represent a significant
improvement over previously published limits.Comment: Submitted to Physics Letters B. Replaced with version publishe
Search for the standard model Higgs boson decaying into two photons in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV
A search for a Higgs boson decaying into two photons is described. The
analysis is performed using a dataset recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC
from pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, which corresponds to an
integrated luminosity of 4.8 inverse femtobarns. Limits are set on the cross
section of the standard model Higgs boson decaying to two photons. The expected
exclusion limit at 95% confidence level is between 1.4 and 2.4 times the
standard model cross section in the mass range between 110 and 150 GeV. The
analysis of the data excludes, at 95% confidence level, the standard model
Higgs boson decaying into two photons in the mass range 128 to 132 GeV. The
largest excess of events above the expected standard model background is
observed for a Higgs boson mass hypothesis of 124 GeV with a local significance
of 3.1 sigma. The global significance of observing an excess with a local
significance greater than 3.1 sigma anywhere in the search range 110-150 GeV is
estimated to be 1.8 sigma. More data are required to ascertain the origin of
this excess.Comment: Submitted to Physics Letters
Measurement of the Lambda(b) cross section and the anti-Lambda(b) to Lambda(b) ratio with Lambda(b) to J/Psi Lambda decays in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV
The Lambda(b) differential production cross section and the cross section
ratio anti-Lambda(b)/Lambda(b) are measured as functions of transverse momentum
pt(Lambda(b)) and rapidity abs(y(Lambda(b))) in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7
TeV using data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The measurements are
based on Lambda(b) decays reconstructed in the exclusive final state J/Psi
Lambda, with the subsequent decays J/Psi to an opposite-sign muon pair and
Lambda to proton pion, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated
luminosity of 1.9 inverse femtobarns. The product of the cross section times
the branching ratio for Lambda(b) to J/Psi Lambda versus pt(Lambda(b)) falls
faster than that of b mesons. The measured value of the cross section times the
branching ratio for pt(Lambda(b)) > 10 GeV and abs(y(Lambda(b))) < 2.0 is 1.06
+/- 0.06 +/- 0.12 nb, and the integrated cross section ratio for
anti-Lambda(b)/Lambda(b) is 1.02 +/- 0.07 +/- 0.09, where the uncertainties are
statistical and systematic, respectively.Comment: Submitted to Physics Letters
