Nurses’ Health Risk Perception on the Influence of Professional and Personal Time Management: A Cross-Sectional Descriptive Study
Occupational health risk selfperception among nurses is linked to professional time management and well-being. In contrast, most of the activities done during personal time seem to have a visibly low effect on the subjects. The importance of time management in nurses’ regular work shifts and the relevance of harmonizing personal and family life with each professional’s particular circumstances are highlighted
The early spectral evolution of SN 2004dt
Aims. We study the optical spectroscopic properties of Type Ia Supernova (SN
Ia) 2004dt, focusing our attention on the early epochs.
Methods. Observation triggered soon after the SN 2004dt discovery allowed us
to obtain a spectrophotometric coverage from day -10 to almost one year (~353
days) after the B band maximum. Observations carried out on an almost daily
basis allowed us a good sampling of the fast spectroscopic evolution of SN
2004dt in the early stages. To obtain this result, low-resolution, long-slit
spectroscopy was obtained using a number of facilities.
Results. This supernova, which in some absorption lines of its early spectra
showed the highest degree of polarization ever measured in any SN Ia, has a
complex velocity structure in the outer layers of its ejecta. Unburnt oxygen is
present, moving at velocities as high as ~16,700 km/s, with some
intermediate-mass elements (Mg, Si, Ca) moving equally fast. Modeling of the
spectra based on standard density profiles of the ejecta fails to reproduce the
observed features, whereas enhancing the density of outer layers significantly
improves the fit. Our analysis indicates the presence of clumps of
high-velocity, intermediate-mass elements in the outermost layers, which is

Spectroscopic Observations and Analysis of the Unusual Type Ia SN 1999ac
We present optical spectra of the peculiar Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) 1999ac.
The data extend from -15 to +42 days with respect to B-band maximum and reveal
an event that is unusual in several respects. Prior to B-band maximum, the
spectra resemble those of SN 1999aa, a slowly declining event, but possess
stronger SiII and CaII signatures (more characteristic of a spectroscopically
normal SN). Spectra after B-band maximum appear more normal. The expansion
velocities inferred from the Iron lines appear to be lower than average;
whereas, the expansion velocity inferred from Calcium H and K are higher than
average. The expansion velocities inferred from SiII are among the slowest ever
observed, though SN 1999ac is not particularly dim. The analysis of the
parameters v_10, R(SiII), dv(SiII)/dt, and d_m15 further underlines the unique
characteristics of SN 1999ac. We find convincing evidence of CII 6580 in the
day -15 spectrum with ejection velocity v > 16,000 km/s, but this signature
disappears by day -9. This rapid evolution at early times highlights the

BVRI Light Curves for 29 Type Ia Supernovae
BVRI light curves are presented for 27 Type Ia supernovae discovered during
the course of the Calan/Tololo Survey and for two other SNe Ia observed during
the same period. Estimates of the maximum light magnitudes in the B, V, and I

Observation of the Baryonic Flavor-Changing Neutral Current Decay Lambda_b -> Lambda mu+ mu-
We report the first observation of the baryonic flavor-changing neutral
current decay Lambda_b -> Lambda mu+ mu- with 24 signal events and a
statistical significance of 5.8 Gaussian standard deviations. This measurement
uses ppbar collisions data sample corresponding to 6.8fb-1 at sqrt{s}=1.96TeV
collected by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron collider. The total and
differential branching ratios for Lambda_b -> Lambda mu+ mu- are measured. We
find B(Lambda_b -> Lambda mu+ mu-) = [1.73+-0.42(stat)+-0.55(syst)] x 10^{-6}.
We also report the first measurement of the differential branching ratio of B_s
-> phi mu+ mu- using 49 signal events. In addition, we report branching ratios
for B+ -> K+ mu+ mu-, B0 -> K0 mu+ mu-, and B -> K*(892) mu+ mu- decays.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, 4 tables. Submitted to Phys. Rev. Let
Search for the standard model Higgs boson decaying to a pair in events with no charged leptons and large missing transverse energy using the full CDF data set
We report on a search for the standard model Higgs boson produced in
association with a vector boson in the full data set of proton-antiproton
collisions at TeV recorded by the CDF II detector at the
Tevatron, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.45 fb. We
consider events having no identified charged lepton, a transverse energy
imbalance, and two or three jets, of which at least one is consistent with
originating from the decay of a quark. We place 95% credibility level upper
limits on the production cross section times standard model branching fraction
for several mass hypotheses between 90 and . For a Higgs
boson mass of , the observed (expected) limit is 6.7

Higgs boson to a bottom-quark pair and the W boson to an electron or muon and a
neutrino, we set 95% credibility level upper limits on the WH production cross
section times the H->bb branching ratio as a function of Higgs boson mass. At a
Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV/c2 we observe (expect) a limit of 4.9 (2.8) times

association with a Z boson in data collected with the CDF II detector at the
Tevatron, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.45/fb. In events
consistent with the decay of the Higgs boson to a bottom-quark pair and the Z
boson to electron or muon pairs, we set 95% credibility level upper limits on
the ZH production cross section times the H -> bb branching ratio as a function

The Galaxy Hosts and Large-Scale Environments of Short-Hard Gamma-Ray Bursts
The rapid succession of discovery of short--duration hard--spectrum GRBs has
led to unprecedented insights into the energetics of the explosion and nature
of the progenitors. Yet short of the detection of a smoking gun, like a burst
of coincident gravitational radiation or a Li-Paczynski mini-supernova, it is
unlikely that a definitive claim can be made for the progenitors. As was the
case with long--duration soft--spectrum GRBs, however, the expectation is that
a systematic study of the hosts and the locations of short GRBs could begin to
yield fundamental clues about their nature. We present the first aggregate
study of the host galaxies of short--duration hard--spectrum GRBs. In
particular, we present the Gemini--North and Keck discovery spectra of the
galaxies that hosted three short GRBs and a moderate--resolution (R~6000)
spectrum of a fourth host. We find that these short--hard GRBs originate in a
variety of low-redshift (z<1) environments that differ substantially from those
of long--soft GRBs, both on individual galaxy scales and on galaxy--cluster
scales. Specifically, three of the bursts are found to be associated with old
and massive galaxies with no current (< 0.1 Msol/hr) or recent star formation.
Two of these galaxies are located within a cluster environment. These
observations support an origin from the merger of compact stellar remnants,
such as double neutron stars of a neutron star--black hole binary. The fourth
event, in contrast, occurred within a dwarf galaxy with a star formation rate
exceeding 0.5 Msol/yr. Therefore, it appears that like supernovae of Type Ia,
the progenitors of short--hard bursts are created in all galaxy types,
suggesting a corresponding class with a wide distribution of delay times

Mutation analysis of genes that control the G1/S cell cycle in melanoma: TP53, CDKN1A, CDKN2A, and CDKN2B
BACKGROUND: The role of genes involved in the control of progression from the G1 to the S phase of the cell cycle in melanoma tumors in not fully known. The aim of our study was to analyse mutations in TP53, CDKN1A, CDKN2A, and CDKN2B genes in melanoma tumors and melanoma cell lines METHODS: We analysed 39 primary and metastatic melanomas and 9 melanoma cell lines by single-stranded conformational polymorphism (SSCP). RESULTS: The single-stranded technique showed heterozygous defects in the TP53 gene in 8 of 39 (20.5%) melanoma tumors: three new single point mutations in intronic sequences (introns 1 and 2) and exon 10, and three new single nucleotide polymorphisms located in introns 1 and 2 (C to T transition at position 11701 in intron 1; C insertion at position 11818 in intron 2; and C insertion at position 11875 in intron 2). One melanoma tumor exhibited two heterozygous alterations in the CDKN2A exon 1 one of which was novel (stop codon, and missense mutation). No defects were found in the remaining genes. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that these genes are involved in melanoma tumorigenesis, although they may be not the major targets. Other suppressor genes that may be informative of the mechanism of tumorigenesis in skin melanomas should be studied
