Quasi-stationary distributions for the Domany-Kinzel stochastic cellular automaton
We construct the {\it quasi-stationary} (QS) probability distribution for the
Domany-Kinzel stochastic cellular automaton (DKCA), a discrete-time Markov
process with an absorbing state. QS distributions are derived at both the one-
and two-site levels. We characterize the distribuitions by their mean, and
various moment ratios, and analyze the lifetime of the QS state, and the
relaxation time to attain this state. Of particular interest are the scaling
properties of the QS state along the critical line separating the active and
absorbing phases. These exhibit a high degree of similarity to the contact
process and the Malthus-Verhulst process (the closest continuous-time analogs
of the DKCA), which extends to the scaling form of the QS distribution.Comment: 15 pages, 9 figures, submited to PR
Quasiparticles as composite objects in the RVB superconductor
We study the nature of the superconducting state, the origin of d-wave
pairing, and elementary excitations of a resonating valence bond (RVB)
superconductor. We show that the phase string formulation of the t-J model
leads to confinement of bare spinon and holon excitations in the
superconducting state, though the vacuum is described by the RVB state. Nodal
quasiparticles are obtained as composite excitations of spinon and holon
excitations. The d-wave pairing symmetry is shown to arise from short range
antiferromagnetic correlations
Percolation model for structural phase transitions in LiHIO mixed crystals
A percolation model is proposed to explain the structural phase transitions
found in LiHIO mixed crystals as a function of the
concentration parameter . The percolation thresholds are obtained from Monte
Carlo simulations on the specific lattices occupied by lithium atoms and
hydrogen bonds. The theoretical results strongly suggest that percolating
lithium vacancies and hydrogen bonds are indeed responsible for the solid
solution observed in the experimental range .Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
Identifying and prioritising services in European terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems
Ecosystems are multifunctional and provide humanity with a broad array of vital services. Effective management of services requires an improved evidence base, identifying the role of ecosystems in delivering multiple services, which can assist policy-makers in maintaining them. Here, information from the literature and scientific experts was used to systematically document the importance of services and identify trends in their use and status over time for the main terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems in Europe. The results from this review show that intensively managed ecosystems contribute mostly to vital provisioning services (e.g. agro-ecosystems provide food via crops and livestock, and forests provide wood), while semi-natural ecosystems (e.g. grasslands and mountains) are key contributors of genetic resources and cultural services (e.g. aesthetic values and sense of place). The most recent European trends in human use of services show increases in demand for crops from agro-ecosystems, timber from forests, water flow regulation from rivers, wetlands and mountains, and recreation and ecotourism in most ecosystems, but decreases in livestock production, freshwater capture fisheries, wild foods and virtually all services associated with ecosystems which have considerably decreased in area (e.g. semi-natural grasslands). The condition of the majority of services show either a degraded or mixed status across Europe with the exception of recent enhancements in timber production in forests and mountains, freshwater provision, water/erosion/natural hazard regulation and recreation/ecotourism in mountains, and climate regulation in forests. Key gaps in knowledge were evident for certain services across all ecosystems, including the provision of biochemicals and natural medicines, genetic resources and the regulating services of seed dispersal, pest/disease regulation and invasion resistance
Possible Z2 phase and spin-charge separation in electron doped cuprate superconductors
The SU(2) slave-boson mean-field theory for the tt'J model is analyzed. The
role of next-nearest-neighbor hopping t' on the phase-diagram is studied. We
find a pseudogap phase in hole-doped materials (where t'<0). The pseudo-gap
phase is a U(1) spin liquid (the staggered-flux phase) with a U(1) gauge
interaction and no fractionalization. This agrees with experiments on hole
doped samples. The same calculation also indicates that a positive t' favors a
Z2 state with true spin-charge separation. The Z2 state that exists when t' >
0.5J can be a candidate for the pseudo-gap phase of electron-doped cuprates (if
such a phase exists). The experimental situation in electron-doped materials is

Summary of IAU GA SpS 5 II: Stellar and Wind Parameters
The development of infrared observational facilities has revealed a number of massive stars in obscured environments throughout the Milky Way and beyond. The determination of their stellar and wind properties from infrared diagnostics is thus required to take full advantage of the wealth of observations available in the near and mid infrared. However, the task is challenging. This session addressed some of the problems encountered and showed the limitations and successes of infrared studies of massive stars
Dental treatment under general anaesthetic and children's oral health-related quality of life

Study selection
Studies conducted in children under 16 undergoing general anaesthesia having change in oral health-related quality of life were considered. Selection was undertaken by two reviewers independently.
Data extraction and synthesis
Data abstraction was undertaken independently by three groups of two reviewers – discrepancies were resolved by discussion. Study quality was assessed using the Quality Assessment Tool for Studies of Diverse Design (QATSDD).
Results
Twenty studies were included; there were 18 prospective studies, one randomised trial and one secondary analysis study. Most studies used a pre-test–post-test design and all but one used proxy measures of oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). All of the studies reported improved OHRQoL overall. However, results suggested that some aspects of OHRQoL may worsen.
Conclusions
Heterogeneity of included papers limited the conclusions which could be drawn. Treatment under GA appears to result in overall improvements in proxy-reported OHRQoL; however, there is a need for further high-quality studies employing validated, child-reported measures of OHRQoL
Measurement of the ttbar Production Cross Section in ppbar Collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV using Lepton + Jets Events with Lifetime b-tagging
We present a measurement of the top quark pair () production cross
section () in collisions at TeV
using 230 pb of data collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab
Tevatron Collider. We select events with one charged lepton (electron or muon),
missing transverse energy, and jets in the final state. We employ
lifetime-based b-jet identification techniques to further enhance the
purity of the selected sample. For a top quark mass of 175 GeV, we
measure pb, in

Measurement of the top quark-pair production cross section with ATLAS in pp collisions at \sqrt{s}=7\TeV
A measurement of the production cross-section for top quark pairs(\ttbar)
in collisions at \sqrt{s}=7 \TeV is presented using data recorded with
the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events are selected in two
different topologies: single lepton (electron or muon ) with large
missing transverse energy and at least four jets, and dilepton (,
or ) with large missing transverse energy and at least two jets. In a
data sample of 2.9 pb-1, 37 candidate events are observed in the single-lepton
topology and 9 events in the dilepton topology. The corresponding expected
backgrounds from non-\ttbar Standard Model processes are estimated using
data-driven methods and determined to be events and events, respectively. The kinematic properties of the selected events are
consistent with SM \ttbar production. The inclusive top quark pair production
cross-section is measured to be \sigmattbar=145 \pm 31 ^{+42}_{-27} pb where
the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The measurement

Inclusive search for same-sign dilepton signatures in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector
An inclusive search is presented for new physics in events with two isolated leptons (e or mu) having the same electric charge. The data are selected from events collected from p p collisions at root s = 7 TeV by the ATLAS detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 34 pb(-1). The spectra in dilepton invariant mass, missing transverse momentum and jet multiplicity are presented and compared to Standard Model predictions. In this event sample, no evidence is found for contributions beyond those of the Standard Model. Limits are set on the cross-section in a fiducial region for new sources of same-sign high-mass dilepton events in the ee, e mu and mu mu channels. Four models predicting same-sign dilepton signals are constrained: two descriptions of Majorana neutrinos, a cascade topology similar to supersymmetry or universal extra dimensions, and fourth generation d-type quarks. Assuming a new physics scale of 1 TeV, Majorana neutrinos produced by an effective operator V with masses below 460 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level. A lower limit of 290 GeV is set at 95% confidence level on the mass of fourth generation d-type quarks
