Avaliação das anomalias clínico-funcionais na doença de Pompe: Relato de Caso

The patient was a 15 year-old girl who turned out at the Physical Therapy Clinic presenting progressive scoliosis and angle of 50º Coob by X-Ray. She complained of back pain, headache and weakness of shoulder and pelvid girdle. Physical therapy evaluation came across features of delayed motor development and undermourishment, together with generalized muscle weakness (grade=4) which was observed by the Kendall test. Lung vital capacity was 40,5%. Clinical Changes: studies of the enzymes with acid alpha-glucosidase assay kits used on filter and leukocytes low enzyme activity, suggesting a late form of the Pompe disease. The molecular studies proved that the patient had a mutation associated with late-onset Pompe disease. Acid alpha-glucosidase enzyme assay studies performed in skin fibroblasts showed a reduction of the enzymatic acitivity of the acid alpha-glucosidase, confirming the previous results. On account of the results, Pompe disease induced important changes in clinical and functional, as well as metabolic changes, decreased strength and muscle action potentially, biomechanical changes in the spine and changes in respiratory capacity. Furthemore, this case of Pompe disease illustrates the importance od adequate physical therapy evaluation as it can be the starting point of investigation of serious conditions such as late onset Pompe disease.Paciente do sexo feminino com 15 anos, apresentou-se na Clínica de Fisioterapia, devido à presença de escoliose progressiva com ângulo de Coob de 50º pelo Raio-X. Apresentou queixa de dor na coluna e na cabeça, fraqueza de cintura escapular e pélvica. Na avaliação fisioterapêutica observou-se um quadro semelhante ao atrado do desenvolvimento motor e desnutrição, com fraqueza muscular generalizada (grau=4) observada pelo teste de Kendall. Na função pulmonar a capacidade vital apresentou com 40,5%. Estudos enzimáticos com dosagem da alga-glicosidade ácida em papel-filtro e leucócitos evidenciaram baixa atividade enzimática, sugestivo de forma tardia da doença de Pompe. No estudo molecular, comprovou-se que a paciente possuía mutação associada à forma tardia da doença: estudos enzimáticos da alfa-glicosidade ácida em fibroblastos cultivados a partir de biópsia de pele evidenciaram redução da atividade enzimática da alga-glicosidase ácida, confirmando estudos enzimáticos prévios. Perante os resultados, a doença de Pompe apresentou alterações clínicas e funcionais importantes como alteração do metabolismo, diminuição de força e do potencial de ação da musculatura, alterações biomecânicas na coluna e na capacidade respiratória. Adicionalmente, o caso ilustra a importânica da avaliação fisioteraupêtica adequada, pois ele pode ser o ponto de partida da investigação de doenças graves como o presente caso

Search for the associated production of the Higgs boson with a top-quark pair

A search for the standard model Higgs boson produced in association with a top-quark pair t t ¯ H (tt¯H) is presented, using data samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of up to 5.1 fb −1 and 19.7 fb −1 collected in pp collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 TeV and 8 TeV respectively. The search is based on the following signatures of the Higgs boson decay: H → hadrons, H → photons, and H → leptons. The results are characterized by an observed t t ¯ H tt¯H signal strength relative to the standard model cross section, μ = σ/σ SM ,under the assumption that the Higgs boson decays as expected in the standard model. The best fit value is μ = 2.8 ± 1.0 for a Higgs boson mass of 125.6 GeV

Measurement of prompt Jψ\psi pair production in pp collisions at \sqrt s = 7 Tev

Production of prompt J/ ψ meson pairs in proton-proton collisions at s s√ = 7 TeV is measured with the CMS experiment at the LHC in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 4.7 fb −1 . The two J/ ψ mesons are fully reconstructed via their decays into μ + μ − pairs. This observation provides for the first time access to the high-transverse-momentum region of J/ ψ pair production where model predictions are not yet established. The total and differential cross sections are measured in a phase space defined by the individual J/ ψ transverse momentum ( p T J/ ψ ) and rapidity (| y J/ ψ |): | y J/ ψ | 6.5 GeV/ c ; 1.2 4.5 GeV/ c . The total cross section, assuming unpolarized prompt J/ ψ pair production is 1.49 ± 0.07 (stat) ±0.13 (syst) nb. Different assumptions about the J/ ψ polarization imply modifications to the cross section ranging from −31% to +27%

Measurements of the t(t)Overbar charge asymmetry using the dilepton decay channel in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV

The tt¯ charge asymmetry in proton-proton collisions at s√ = 7 TeV is measured using the dilepton decay channel (ee, e μ , or μμ ). The data correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb −1 , collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The tt and lepton charge asymmetries, defined as the differences in absolute values of the rapidities between the reconstructed top quarks and antiquarks and of the pseudorapidities between the positive and negative leptons, respectively, are measured to be A C = −0 . 010 ± 0 . 017 (stat . ) ± 0 . 008 (syst . ) and AlepC = 0 . 009 ± 0 . 010 (stat . ) ± 0 . 006 (syst . ). The lepton charge asymmetry is also measured as a function of the invariant mass, rapidity, and transverse momentum of the tt¯ system. All measurements are consistent with the expectations of the standard model

Faunal composition and behavior of Anopheline mosquitoes in the Xavánte Indian reservation of Pimentel Barbosa, Central Brazil

Faunal composition and behavior of anopheline mosquitoes were studied in a Xavánte Indian reservation of Central Brazil. Altogether 558 anophelines were collected in three environments (intra, peri, and extra-domiciliary). Anopheles darlingi (30.9 %), An. triannulatus s.l. (24.6 56) and An. oswaldoi (19.7 %) were the most common species. Average capture rates were higher in the rainy season (8.03 per hour) than in the dry season (4.37 per hour). Anophelines exhibited exophilic behavior almost exclusively. It was observed that Xavante cultural practices facilitate outdoor exposure during peak hours of mosquito activities (e. g., coming to the creek early in the morning for bathing or to draw water, fishing, etc.). The results of this study raise the question of whether or not applying to the Xavante the more commonly recommended malaria control strategies (e. g., in-house spraying, screening windows, and impregnated bed nets) which aim at hampering human-mosquito contact inside human dwelings may be effective

Influência do açúcar no processo de cicatrização de incisões cirúrgicas infectadas Influencia del azúcar en el proceso de cicatrización de insiciones quirúrgicas infectadas A microbiological study about the effect of sugar on the scarring of infected surgical incisions

Trata-se de um estudo experimental, realizado através de análises microbiológicas, que teve por objetivo avaliar a influência do açúcar cristal no processo de cicatrização de incisões cirúrgicas infectadas de 25 pacientes. Nas deiscências foram identificadas as presenças de bactérias gram positivas, gram negativas e fungos. Todos os indivíduos receberam antibioticoterapia sistêmica e tiveram suas incisões tratadas localmente com açúcar cristal, através de 3 curativos diários. A análise estatística demonstrou, através da correlação de Pearson, que o açúcar cristal não influenciou o processo de cicatrização de incisões cirúrgicas infectadas de indivíduos desnutridos, obesos e com idade avançada.<br>Se trata de un estudio experimental, realizado a través de análisis microbiológicos, que tuvo como objetivo evaluar la influencia del azúcar cristal en el proceso de cicatrización de incisiones quirúrgicas infectadas de 25 pacientes. En las dehiscencias fue identificada la presencia de bacterias "gram positivas", "gram negativas y hongos. Todos los individuos recibieron antibioticoterápia sistémica y tuvieron sus incisiones tratadas localmente con azúcar cristal, a través de tres curaciones diarias. El análisis estadístico mostró, a través de la correlación de Pearson, que el azucar cristal no influenció el proceso de cicatrización de incisiones quirúrgicas infectadas de individuos desnutridos, obesos y con edad evanzada.<br>This is an experimental research based on microbiological analysis. Our aim was to evaluate the influence of sugar on the healing process of infected surgical wounds in 25 patients. On the dehiscences, there have been identified gram positive and gram negative bacteria, and fungi as well. Every patient was administered systemic antibiotics and had the wounds treated locally with cristal sugar three times a day. Statistics showed, by Person's correlation, that sugar did not influence on the healing process of infected surgical wounds in undernourished, overweigh and elderly individuals
