    Current - voltage characteristics of break junctions of high-TcT_c superconductors

    The current-voltage (II-VV) characteristics of break junctions of polycrystalline La1.85_{1.85}Sr0.15_{0.15}CuO4_4, Y0.75_{0.75}Lu0.25_{0.25}Ba2_2Cu3_3O7−δ_{7-\delta}, Bi1.8_{1.8}Pb0.3_{0.3}Sr1.9_{1.9}Ca2_2Cu3_3Ox_x and composite YBa2_2Cu3_3O7−δ_{7-\delta} + Ag are investigated. The experimental II-VV curves exhibit the specific peculiarities of superconductor/normal-metal/superconductor junctions. The relation between an II-VV characteristic of network of weak links and II-VV dependencies of typical weak links is suggested to describe the experimental data. The II-VV curves of typical weak links are calculated by the K\"{u}mmel - Gunsenheimer - Nicolsky model considering the multiple Andreev reflections.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures, 2 Table

    Asymmetry of magnetization curves of textured BSCCO

    The dependence of magnetization on magnetic field M(H) was measured for textured BSCCO samples for H || c, H || ab at different temperatures. Inclusion of the pinning parameter in the Valkov-Khrustalev model [V.V. Valkov, B.P. Khrustalev, JETP 80 (1995) 680] allowed to describe successfully the asymmetric M(H) dependencies. The temperature and magnetic field dependencies of critical current and pinning parameter for H || c and H || ab were estimated.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure, will be published in Physica

    Enhancement of the Raman Scattering and the Third-Harmonic Generation in Silicon Nanowires

    We studied features of Raman scattering and the third-harmonic generation in silicon nanowire (SiNW) ensembles formed by means of chemical etching of crystalline silicon (c-Si) wafers with preliminary deposited silver nanoparticles in hydrofluoric acid. The c-Si wafers of different crystallographic orientations and doping levels were used, which results in variations of the formed nanostructure size and degree of order. For the excitation at 1064 nm the ratio of Raman scattering signals for SiNWs and those for initial c-Si wafer ranges from 2 to 5, whereas for shorter wavelengths the ratio increases for more ordered arrays of SiNWs of greater diameter and decreases for less ordered SiNW structures. The TH signals in SiNW ensembles demonstrate both fall and one- or two-orders-of-magnitude rise in comparison with c-Si depending on the structure of the SiNW ensemble. The obtained results are explained by the effect of partial light localization in SiNW ensembles

    Determination of pi-N scattering lengths from pionic hydrogen and pionic deuterium data

    The pi-N s-wave scattering lengths have been inferred from a joint analysis of the pionic hydrogen and the pionic deuterium x-ray data using a non-relativistic approach in which the pi-N interaction is simulated by a short-ranged potential. The pi-d scattering length has been calculated exactly by solving the Faddeev equations and also by using a static approximation. It has been shown that the same very accurate static formula for pi-d scattering length can be derived (i) from a set of boundary conditions; (ii) by a reduction of Faddeev equations; and (iii) through a summation of Feynman diagrams. By imposing the requirement that the pi-d scattering length, resulting from Faddeev-type calculation, be in agreement with pionic deuterium data, we obtain bounds on the pi-N scattering lengths. The dominant source of uncertainty on the deduced values of the pi-N scattering lengths are the experimental errors in the pionic hydrogen data.Comment: RevTeX, 20 pages,4 PostScript figure

    Deeply virtual electroproduction of photons and mesons on the nucleon : leading order amplitudes and power corrections

    We estimate the leading order amplitudes for exclusive photon and meson electroproduction reactions at large Q^2 in the valence region in terms of skewed quark distributions. As experimental investigations can currently only be envisaged at moderate values of Q^2, we estimate power corrections due to the intrinsic transverse momentum of the partons in the meson wavefunction and in the nucleon. To this aim the skewed parton distribution formalism is generalized so as to include the parton intrinsic transverse momentum dependence. Furthermore, for the meson electroproduction reactions, we calculate the soft overlap type contributions and compare with the leading order amplitudes. We give first estimates for these different power corrections in kinematics which are relevant for experiments in the near future.Comment: 59 pages, 21 figure

    Crossovers in Unitary Fermi Systems

    Universality and crossover is described for attractive and repulsive interactions where, respectively, the BCS-BEC crossover takes place and a ferromagnetic phase transition is claimed. Crossovers are also described for optical lattices and multicomponent systems. The crossovers, universal parameters and phase transitions are described within the Leggett and NSR models and calculated in detail within the Jastrow-Slater approximation. The physics of ultracold Fermi atoms is applied to neutron, nuclear and quark matter, nuclei and electrons in solids whenever possible. Specifically, the differences between optical lattices and cuprates is discussed w.r.t. antiferromagnetic, d-wave superfluid phases and phase separation.Comment: 50 pages, 15 figures.     Search for a W' boson decaying to a bottom quark and a top quark in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV

    Results are presented from a search for a W' boson using a dataset corresponding to 5.0 inverse femtobarns of integrated luminosity collected during 2011 by the CMS experiment at the LHC in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV. The W' boson is modeled as a heavy W boson, but different scenarios for the couplings to fermions are considered, involving both left-handed and right-handed chiral projections of the fermions, as well as an arbitrary mixture of the two. The search is performed in the decay channel W' to t b, leading to a final state signature with a single lepton (e, mu), missing transverse energy, and jets, at least one of which is tagged as a b-jet. A W' boson that couples to fermions with the same coupling constant as the W, but to the right-handed rather than left-handed chiral projections, is excluded for masses below 1.85 TeV at the 95% confidence level. For the first time using LHC data, constraints on the W' gauge coupling for a set of left- and right-handed coupling combinations have been placed.     Search for the standard model Higgs boson decaying into two photons in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV

    A search for a Higgs boson decaying into two photons is described. The analysis is performed using a dataset recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC from pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, which corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.8 inverse femtobarns. Limits are set on the cross section of the standard model Higgs boson decaying to two photons. The expected exclusion limit at 95% confidence level is between 1.4 and 2.4 times the standard model cross section in the mass range between 110 and 150 GeV. The analysis of the data excludes, at 95% confidence level, the standard model Higgs boson decaying into two photons in the mass range 128 to 132 GeV. The largest excess of events above the expected standard model background is observed for a Higgs boson mass hypothesis of 124 GeV with a local significance of 3.1 sigma. The global significance of observing an excess with a local significance greater than 3.1 sigma anywhere in the search range 110-150 GeV is estimated to be 1.8 sigma. More data are required to ascertain the origin of this excess.Comment: Submitted to Physics Letters

    Measurement of isolated photon production in pp and PbPb collisions at sqrt(sNN) = 2.76 TeV

    Isolated photon production is measured in proton-proton and lead-lead collisions at nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energies of 2.76 TeV in the pseudorapidity range |eta|<1.44 and transverse energies ET between 20 and 80 GeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. The measured ET spectra are found to be in good agreement with next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD predictions. The ratio of PbPb to pp isolated photon ET-differential yields, scaled by the number of incoherent nucleon-nucleon collisions, is consistent with unity for all PbPb reaction centralities.Comment: Submitted to Physics Letters

    Measurement of the Lambda(b) cross section and the anti-Lambda(b) to Lambda(b) ratio with Lambda(b) to J/Psi Lambda decays in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV

    The Lambda(b) differential production cross section and the cross section ratio anti-Lambda(b)/Lambda(b) are measured as functions of transverse momentum pt(Lambda(b)) and rapidity abs(y(Lambda(b))) in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV using data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The measurements are based on Lambda(b) decays reconstructed in the exclusive final state J/Psi Lambda, with the subsequent decays J/Psi to an opposite-sign muon pair and Lambda to proton pion, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.9 inverse femtobarns. The product of the cross section times the branching ratio for Lambda(b) to J/Psi Lambda versus pt(Lambda(b)) falls faster than that of b mesons. The measured value of the cross section times the branching ratio for pt(Lambda(b)) > 10 GeV and abs(y(Lambda(b))) < 2.0 is 1.06 +/- 0.06 +/- 0.12 nb, and the integrated cross section ratio for anti-Lambda(b)/Lambda(b) is 1.02 +/- 0.07 +/- 0.09, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.Comment: Submitted to Physics Letters
