The article focuses on the practices of resistance and transformation of reality that are generated in the political underground, showing how they give rise to an affirmation and politicization of subjectivity and affectivity. Emphasizing that this politicization is not an isolated fact, but becomes a fundamental axis that makes possible the articulation of modes of associativity and counter-hegemonic collective alternatives

Quantum decoherence. A work on the quantum measurement problem

    Get PDF
The objectives of this project are several and their achievement has been organized in three different chapters. In the first one, It has been tried to explain what the measurement problem is and how decoherence partially solves it, explaining why we are only able to measure non-superposed states. In the second chapter it is shown how, indeed, decoherence emerges naturally when considering the interaction between a system and its environment, thus giving a justification to Von Neumann’s irreversible reduction process. With these first two chapters, moreover, a mathematical framework based on master equations and CPT maps is established, which is used in the last chapter to achieve the ultimate goal of being able to describe the evolution of the accessible states of a quantum system on which a measurement is performed without having to resort to the measurement postulates.

Passivity-Based Control Improvement of Single-Link Flexible Manipulators by a Two-Degree-of-Freedom PID Motor controller

    Get PDF
A new approach to a previous passivity-based control scheme of single-link flexible manipulators is presented herein. Such previous scheme achieves precise positioning of the link tip by combining a position angular control of the motor (inner loop) with a link vibration damping (outer loop), which can be designed independently by decoupling joint and link dynamics with a linear strain feedback. Although, precise positioning can be achieved under large tip payload changes, the used inner loop cannot eliminate the steady-state position error due to the nonlinearities present in the motor. The contribution presented in this work consists of using a two-degree of freedom PID motor controller to solve this problem, eliminating thus the steady-state error while also improving the settling time of the angular position. Simulation and experimental results are carried out to illustrate these improvements

Sloshing reduced-order model trained with Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics simulations

The main goal of this paper is to provide a Reduced Order Model (ROM) able to predict the liquid induced dissipation of the violent and vertical sloshing problem for a wide range of liquid viscosities, surface tensions and tank filling levels. For that purpose, the Delta Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (δ-SPH) formulation is used to build a database of simulation cases where the physical parameters of the liquid are varied. For each simulation case, a bouncing ball-based equivalent mechanical model is identified to emulate sloshing dynamics. Then, an interpolating hypersurface-based ROM is defined to establish a mapping between the considered physical parameters of the liquid and the identified ball models. The resulting hypersurface effectively estimates the bouncing ball design parameters while considering various types of liquids, producing results consistent with SPH test simulations. Additionally, it is observed that the estimated bouncing ball model not only matches the liquid induced dissipation but also follows the liquid center of mass and presents the same sloshing force and phase-shift trends when varying the tank filling level. These findings provide compelling evidence that the identified ROM is a practical tool for accurately predicting critical aspects of the vertical sloshing problem while requiring minimal computational resources

    Get PDF

Interactive effects of obligate scavengers and scavenger community richness on lagomorph carcass consumption patterns

    No full text
Carrion consumption patterns in vertebrate scavenger communities may be influenced by several interacting factors. We assessed the effects of the number of scavenger species and the presence of obligate scavengers (vultures) on carcass detection and consumption times, and the structure (nestedness) of the scavenger assemblage by exploring consumption patterns of lagomorph carcasses provided experimentally. Carcass detection and consumption times were strongly inversely related to vulture presence, whereas scavenger richness had a low contribution, except when interacting with vulture presence. However, none of the scavenger communities presented a nested pattern, perhaps because of the small size of lagomorphs, which prevents large numbers of scavengers and interspecific interactions occurring at one carcass. Our results suggest that scavenger species richness, especially the presence of vultures, increases scavenging efficiency

Elliptic flow of charged particles in Pb-Pb collisions at 2.76 TeV

We report the first measurement of charged particle elliptic flow in Pb-Pb collisions at 2.76 TeV with the ALICE detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The measurement is performed in the central pseudorapidity region (|η\eta|<0.8) and transverse momentum range 0.2< pTp_{\rm T}< 5.0 GeV/cc. The elliptic flow signal v2_2, measured using the 4-particle correlation method, averaged over transverse momentum and pseudorapidity is 0.087 ±\pm 0.002 (stat) ±\pm 0.004 (syst) in the 40-50% centrality class. The differential elliptic flow v2(pT)_2(p_{\rm T}) reaches a maximum of 0.2 near pTp_{\rm T} = 3 GeV/cc. Compared to RHIC Au-Au collisions at 200 GeV, the elliptic flow increases by about 30%. Some hydrodynamic model predictions which include viscous corrections are in agreement with the observed increase.Comment: 10 pages, 4 captioned figures, published version, figures at http://aliceinfo.cern.ch/ArtSubmission/node/389

Search for gravitational waves associated with the InterPlanetary Network short gamma ray bursts

We outline the scientific motivation behind a search for gravitational waves associated with short gamma ray bursts detected by the InterPlanetary Network (IPN) during LIGO's fifth science run and Virgo's first science run. The IPN localisation of short gamma ray bursts is limited to extended error boxes of different shapes and sizes and a search on these error boxes poses a series of challenges for data analysis. We will discuss these challenges and outline the methods to optimise the search over these error boxes.Comment: Methods paper; Proceedings for Eduardo Amaldi 9 Conference on Gravitational Waves, July 2011, Cardiff, U
