Funding the parochial school. A case study: The Lutheran Elementary Schools of the Michigan District - LCMS.
In this single case study of the Lutheran Elementary Schools of the Michigan District (LCMS), the research question is: What changes have taken place in the methods used to finance the Lutheran elementary schools within the Michigan District between 1981-1990? The researcher investigated the effects of the following agents on the funding methods used by the schools to meet their annual operating budgets for each of the years in the study: (A) Community demographics; (B) Student enrollment; (C) Enrollment patterns over the period of the study; (D) Program characteristics--K-8 and Pre-K programs. The results of the study indicated a heavy dependency on financial support from operating congregations, as well as a movement toward the increased use of tuition (member/non-member) in the District's schools. Third source funding, income from sources outside the congregation and tuition, was found to have a minimal impact in most schools. From the study's findings, implications were developed for further research and recommendations were made for the development of policies and practices for non-public schools.Ed.D.EducationUniversity of Michigan, Horace H. The sacramentality of the Word : through the lens of the annunciation to Mary
This thesis seeks to demonstrate that, in failing to take the sacramentality of the Word seriously, the preaching of the Church has suffered negative consequences. In short, preaching has often become, at best, a form of instruction or, at worst, an incantation of sorts, rather than an integral part of deepening our relationship with Christ by functioning sacramentally to bring about divine participation with Jesus’ corporeal humanity in his living Word. Moreover, this trouble has had a profoundly negative effect on my own Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod due, in part, to our Reformation heritage as Christians who believe, teach, and confess the sole authority and divine inspiration of Holy Scripture. Yet, what has been lost over the past 500 years since the Reformation began is the reality of Christ’s ongoing corporeal presence in and for the Church, particularly as he is present in the viva vox of preaching.
In order to recover that reality, I propose that one should consider the annunciation to Mary where, with a sermon of sorts, the corporeal Christ took up residence in the flesh of his hearer. In addition to granting Mary a son, however, this tangible presence of Jesus also delivered to her precisely what was contained within his own flesh: the fullness of the Godhead (Col 2:9). When understood as a biblical paradigm for the Church, it becomes clear that what happened to Mary can, indeed, happen to Christians of the present day. To that end, I propose that preaching today, when understood sacramentally, can deliver the fullness of the person of Christ, who continues to come in corporeality, with humanity and divinity, in the viva vox of preaching

The Orthodox Church and the Mental Health Burden of a Pandemic: A Narrative Mini-Review
The mental health burden of the recent COVID19 pandemic will be extensive and pervasive likely for many years to come. The stress and anxiety of this event will undoubtedly impact Orthodox communities regardless of location after the world has met the crisis and resumed some sense of normalcy. The assessment of mental health needs among Orthodox Christians remains a largely unstudied phenomenon. A small narrative review was conducted to ascertain ways in which other faith-based organizations have studied mental health in their own communities. While studies that address many minority and immigrant-based faith-based organizations exist, these are limited in scope. Given similarities that exist between minority and immigrant-based faith-based populations and Orthodox communities, a planning framework is suggested to improve an Orthodox response post-pandemic
