    Integrating Soundscape Criteria in Urban Sustainable Regeneration Processes: An Example of Comfort and Health Improvement

    This paper reports an example of an urban sustainable regeneration process in a small open square following the soundscape approach in urban design and involving a transdisciplinary team. The renovation of this urban public space brought changes in its acoustic environment and improved soundscape perception as much more pleasant (enhanced comfort). The rehabilitation broadened the use of the square and enhanced users’ wellbeing and health, showing a significant positive impact of sound: reduction in negative emotions and perceived stress while increasing positive feelings. To conclude, the implications of the results about restorative environments in urban sound planning and future areas of research are discussed.This research received no external funding

    Gas infall and possible circumstellar rotation in R Leonis

    We present new interferometer molecular observations of R Leo taken at 1.2 mm with the Atacama Large Millimeter Array with an angular resolution up to similar or equal to 0.\u27\u27 026. These observations permitted us to resolve the innermost envelope of this star, which revealed a complex structure that involves extended continuum emission and molecular emission showing a non-radial gas velocity distribution. This molecular emission displays prominent red-shifted absorptions located immediately in front of the star, which are typical footprints of material infall. This emission also shows lateral gas motions compatible with a torus-like structure

    Efecto de la temperatura en las propiedades reológicas de la pulpa de melón (Cucumis melo)

    El melón (Cucumis melo) es un fruto de alto consumo a nivel nacional, lo que le otorga una gran importancia a  su cultivo, permitiendo exportación y transformación de la materia prima, por lo cual es necesario el estudio de sus propiedades reológicas con el fin de lograr optimizar los diferentes métodos de procesamiento. El objetivo principal de esta investigación es establecer la influencia de la temperatura sobre el comportamiento reológico de la pulpa de melón, por lo cual se efectuaron curvas de flujo viscoso en estado estacionario en un rango de temperaturas que van desde los 10°C hasta los 60°C. La evaluacion de las propiedades reológicas de la pulpa se analizaron de acuerdo a la variacion de la temperatura. Las pruebas se llevaron a cabo mediante un Sistema de Reómetro Avanzado Modular Haake Mars 60. La pulpa de melón tuvo un comportamiento no Newtoniano del, tipo pseudoplástico o reofluidificante (shear thining) en todos los casos, la relación entre la viscosidad y la velocidad de deformación se ajustó al modelo de Carreau-Yasuda (R2> 0,97.). El ajuste de la ecuación de Arrhenius con los datos arrojados de la viscosidad aparente de la pulpa fue adecuado con un R2>0,92. Estos resultados describen el comportamiento de la pulpa de melón, permitiendo su uso para futuros trabajos y aplicaciones en el desarrollo de procesos de transformación de las pulpas de melón como materia prima

    Spectroscopic indications of tunnel barrier charging as the switching mechanism in memristive devices

    Resistive random access memory is a promising, energy-efficient, low-power “storage class memory” technology that has the potential to replace both flash storage and on-chip dynamic memory. While the most widely employed systems exhibit filamentary resistive switching, interface-type switching systems based on a tunable tunnel barrier are of increasing interest. They suffer less from the variability induced by the stochastic filament formation process and the choice of the tunnel barrier thickness offers the possibility to adapt the memory device current to the given circuit requirements. Heterostructures consisting of a yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) tunnel barrier and a praseodymium calcium manganite (PCMO) layer are employed. Instead of spatially localized filaments, the resistive switching process occurs underneath the whole electrode. By employing a combination of electrical measurements, in operando hard X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electron energy loss spectroscopy, it is revealed that an exchange of oxygen ions between PCMO and YSZ causes an electrostatic modulation of the effective height of the YSZ tunnel barrier and is thereby the underlying mechanism for resistive switching in these devices

    Anisotropy studies around the galactic centre at EeV energies with the Auger Observatory

    Data from the Pierre Auger Observatory are analyzed to search for anisotropies near the direction of the Galactic Centre at EeV energies. The exposure of the surface array in this part of the sky is already significantly larger than that of the fore-runner experiments. Our results do not support previous findings of localized excesses in the AGASA and SUGAR data. We set an upper bound on a point-like flux of cosmic rays arriving from the Galactic Centre which excludes several scenarios predicting sources of EeV neutrons from Sagittarius AA. Also the events detected simultaneously by the surface and fluorescence detectors (the `hybrid' data set), which have better pointing accuracy but are less numerous than those of the surface array alone, do not show any significant localized excess from this direction.Comment: Matches published versio

    Guía de práctica clínica para el manejo de la Enfermedad Renal Crónica estadíos 3b, 4 y 5 en el Seguro Social de Salud del Perú (EsSalud)

    Introduction: This article summarizes the clinical practice guideline (CPG) for the management of stage 3b, 4, and 5 chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the Social Security of Peru (EsSalud). Objective: To provide evidence-based clinical recommendations for the management of stage 3b, 4, and 5 CKD in EsSalud. Methods: A guideline development group (GDG) was formed, including specialists and methodologists. The GDG formulated 9 clinical questions. Systematic searches for systematic reviews and primary studies were conducted in PubMed from December 2020 to August 2021. Evidence was selected to answer the clinical questions posed. The certainty of the evidence was evaluated using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) methodology. The GDG used the GRADE methodology to review the evidence and formulate recommendations, points of good clinical practice (GPC), and management flowcharts. Finally, the CPG was approved with Resolution No. 88-IETSI-ESSALUD-2021. Results: This CPG addressed 9 clinical questions. Based on these questions, 17 recommendations (7 strong and 10 conditional), 28 GPC points, and 4 management flowcharts were formulated. Conclusion: This article summarizes the methodology and evidence-based conclusions of the CPG for the management of stage 3b, 4, and 5 CKD in EsSalud.Introducción: El presente artículo resume la guía de práctica clínica (GPC) para el manejo de la enfermedad renal crónica estadíos 3b, 4 y 5 en el Seguro Social del Perú (EsSalud). Objetivo: Proveer recomendaciones clínicas basadas en evidencia para el manejo de pacientes con enfermedad renal crónica estadíos 3b, 4 y 5 en EsSalud. Métodos: Se conformó un grupo elaborador de la guía (GEG) que incluyó especialistas y metodólogos. El GEG formuló 9 preguntas clínicas. Se realizó búsquedas sistemáticas de revisiones sistemáticas y estudios primarios en PubMed entre diciembre del 2020 y agosto del 2021. Se seleccionó la evidencia para responder a las preguntas clínicas planteadas. La certeza de la evidencia fue evaluada usando la metodología Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE). El GEG usó la metodología GRADE para revisar la evidencia y formular recomendaciones, los puntos de buena práctica clínica (BPC) y los flujogramas de manejo.     Atmospheric effects on extensive air showers observed with the Surface Detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory

    Atmospheric parameters, such as pressure (P), temperature (T) and density, affect the development of extensive air showers initiated by energetic cosmic rays. We have studied the impact of atmospheric variations on extensive air showers by means of the surface detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory. The rate of events shows a ~10% seasonal modulation and ~2% diurnal one. We find that the observed behaviour is explained by a model including the effects associated with the variations of pressure and density. The former affects the longitudinal development of air showers while the latter influences the Moliere radius and hence the lateral distribution of the shower particles. The model is validated with full simulations of extensive air showers using atmospheric profiles measured at the site of the Pierre Auger Observatory.Comment: 24 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication in Astroparticle Physic

    Update on the correlation of the highest energy cosmic rays with nearby extragalactic matter

    Data collected by the Pierre Auger Observatory through 31 August 2007 showed evidence for anisotropy in the arrival directions of cosmic rays above the Greisen-Zatsepin-Kuz'min energy threshold, \nobreak{6×10196\times 10^{19}eV}. The anisotropy was measured by the fraction of arrival directions that are less than 3.13.1^\circ from the position of an active galactic nucleus within 75 Mpc (using the V\'eron-Cetty and V\'eron 12th12^{\rm th} catalog). An updated measurement of this fraction is reported here using the arrival directions of cosmic rays recorded above the same energy threshold through 31 December 2009. The number of arrival directions has increased from 27 to 69, allowing a more precise measurement. The correlating fraction is (386+7)(38^{+7}_{-6})%, compared with 2121% expected for isotropic cosmic rays. This is down from the early estimate of (6913+11)(69^{+11}_{-13})%. The enlarged set of arrival directions is examined also in relation to other populations of nearby extragalactic objects: galaxies in the 2 Microns All Sky Survey and active galactic nuclei detected in hard X-rays by the Swift Burst Alert Telescope. A celestial region around the position of the radiogalaxy Cen A has the largest excess of arrival directions relative to isotropic expectations. The 2-point autocorrelation function is shown for the enlarged set of arrival directions and compared to the isotropic expectation.Comment: Accepted for publication in Astroparticle Physics on 31 August 201
