    KÀllkritik pÄ internet med stöd av IKT undervisning pÄ fritidshemmet

    Mitt utvecklingsinriktade arbete var att konkretisera kÀllkritik pÄ internet för tredjeklassare pÄ fritidshemmet. Syftet med arbetet var att pÄ fritidshemmet arbeta för att eleverna ska kunna göra kloka sökningar pÄ internet och kÀnna sig kompetenta vid en dator. Med enkÀter som eleverna fyllt i innan och efter arbetet har deras syn pÄ den personliga utvecklingen pÄ omrÄdet uppmÀtts. Aktionen var uppbyggt som smÄ lektioner dÀr eleverna fick anvÀnda internet för att svara pÄ frÄgor och sedan samtalade vi kring trovÀrdigheten pÄ svaren.. Resultatet pÄ enkÀterna visar en mindre ökning i elevernas tro i sin egen förmÄga bÄde generellt vid datorn men Àven pÄ att hitta svar pÄ frÄgor med hjÀlp internet. Arbetet har skapat nya tankar hur man kan anvÀnda datorer pÄ fritidshemmet bland kollegor och Àven visat deltagande elever en ny typ av internetanvÀndning. Arbetet har varit lÀrorikt och har pÄverkat min syn pÄ vad som Àr möjligt pÄ fritidshemmet

    Syftet med denna studie var att kartlÀgga vilka attityder och lÀsvanor som finns hos elever i Ärskurs 5. För att kunna se elevernas intresse av litteratur och deras lÀsvanor berör studien endast den lÀsning som sker pÄ elevernas fritid. De frÄgestÀllningar som ligger som grund i detta arbete Àr följande: Hur mycket lÀser elever i Ärskurs 5 pÄ fritiden? Hur ser elevernas lÀsvanor ut? Vilken attityd finns till lÀsning pÄ fritiden? Finns det skillnader mellan flickors och pojkars lÀsvanor och attityd till lÀsning? Finns det nÄgot samband mellan lÀsattityd och frivillig lÀsning? För att fÄ svar pÄ dessa frÄgor genomfördes studien med hjÀlp av en kvantitativ enkÀtundersökning dÀr eleverna fick ta stÀllning till ett antal pÄstÄenden. Resultatet visar att eleverna i de undersökta klasserna lÀser mycket och de har en positiv instÀllning till lÀsning. Det framkom Àven att det finns skillnader mellan pojkars   och flickors attityd till lÀsning. Flickorna visade sig vara nÄgot mer positiva Àn pojkarna i sin instÀllning till lÀsning och litteratur. Det finns Àven en mer samstÀmmig syn inom gruppen flickor, det vill sÀga deras svar var likartade. Pojkarnas svar dÀremot visade sig vara mer varierande

    HÄllbart byggande - frÄn teori till praktik: En studie om ingenjörsstudenters och lÀrares kunskaper och attityder om hÄllbar utveckling, miljöfrÄgor och hÄllbart byggande

    För att byggbranschen ska uppnÄ ett hÄllbart byggande har lÀrare pÄ byggingenjörsprogram och nyutbildade byggingenjörer en viktig roll i att integrera hÄllbarhetskoncepten. Denna studie har via en enkÀt och via NEP-verktyget undersökt vilka kunskaper och attityder sistaÄrsstudenter och lÀrare pÄ Malmö högskolas byggingenjörsprogram har kring miljöfrÄgor och hÄllbar utveckling (HU), samt hur de definierar hÄllbart byggande (HB). Resultatet visade att lÀrarna har en hög kunskapsnivÄ vad gÀller miljöproblem och HU. Studenterna visade hög kunskap om ekologisk hÄllbarhet men lÀgre kunskap om ekonomisk- och social hÄllbarhet. 19 av 48 studenter definierade HB via Àmnena Brundtland och HU- pelarna, oftast utan koppling till andra Àmnen vilket kan anses orovÀckande om fallet Àr att de teoretiska hÄllbarhetsbegreppen inte kan kopplas till den ingenjörsmÀssiga praktiken. Resultatet frÄn NEP-undersökningen visade att de bÄda grupperna har en ekocentrisk vÀrldsbild snarare Àn en antropocentrisk. NÄgra motsÀgelsefulla svar i NEP-verktyget indikerade dock att respondenterna instÀmde i att mÀnniskan kommer exploatera jordens resurser i all framtid om vi bara finner nya tekniker som möjliggör det. En korrelationsanalys mellan studenternas kunskaper och attityder genomfördes via SPSS och analysen pÄvisade ett positivt signifikant samband (+0,308) som ger ett litet empiriskt bevis pÄ att kunskapens plats vidare bör undersökas i utvecklandet av nya attitydteorier.If the construction industry is to achieve sustainable building methods, teachers and construction engineer students have an important role in the integration of the sustainability concepts. This study aims through a survey, including the NEP-tool, to examine the knowledge and attitudes of final year students and teachers, at Malmö University construction engineering program, on environmental issues and sustainable development (SD). The respondents' definition of sustainable building (SB) was also collected. The results showed that teachers have a high level of knowledge regarding environmental problems and SD. The students showed high knowledge of the ecological sustainability, but lower knowledge of economic- and social sustainability. 19 out of 48 students defined SB, referring to subjects as Brundtland and SD-pillars, usually without connection to other subjects, which may be considered worrying if the theoretical concepts of sustainability can not be linked to the engineering practice. The result of the NEP survey found that both groups have an eco-centric worldview rather than an anthropocentric. Some contradictory responses in the NEP-tool indicated, however, that the respondents agreed that humans will be able to exploit the earth's resources in perpetuity if we just find new technologies for doing so. A correlation analysis between the students' knowledge and attitudes was conducted by SPSS and the analysis showed a positive significant correlation (+0.308) that gives some empirical evidence that knowledge should be explored in the development of new attitude theories

    Life span correlates with population dynamics in perennial herbaceous plants

    Survival and fecundity are basic components of demography and therefore have a strong influence on population dynamics. These two key parameters and their relationship are crucial to understand the evolution of life histories. It remains, however, to be empirically established how life span, fecundity, and population dynamics are linked in different organism groups. We conducted a comparative study based on demographic data sets of 55 populations of 23 perennial herbs for which structured demographic models and among-year natural variation in demographic attributes were available. Life span (from 4 to 128 yr old), estimated by using an algorithm, was inversely correlated with the deviance of the population growth rate from equilibrium as well as with among-year population fluctuations. Temporal variability was greater for short-lived species than for the long-lived ones because fecundity was more variable than survival and relatively more important for population dynamics for the short-lived species. The relationship between life span and population stability suggests that selection for longevity may have played an important role in the life history evolution of plants because of its ability to buffer temporal fluctuations in population sizePeer reviewe

    The Risk of Serious Infections Before and After Anti-TNF Therapy in Inflammatory Bowel Disease : A Retrospective Cohort Study

    BACKGROUND: Serious infections have been observed in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) on anti-TNF use-but to what extent these infections are due to anti-TNF or the disease activity per se is hard to disentangle. We aimed to describe how the rates of serious infections change over time both before and after starting anti-TNF in IBD.METHODS: Inflammatory bowel disease patients naĂŻve to anti-TNF treatment were identified at 5 centers participating in the Swedish IBD Quality Register, and their medical records examined in detail. Serious infections, defined as infections requiring in-patient care, the year before and after the start of anti-TNF treatment were evaluated.RESULTS: Among 980 patients who started their first anti-TNF therapy between 1999 and 2016, the incidence rate of serious infections was 2.19 (95% CI,1.43-3.36) per 100 person years the year before and 2.11 (95% CI, 1.33-3.34) per 100 person years 1 year after treatment start. This corresponded to an incidence rate ratio 1 year after anti-TNF treatment of 0.97 (95% CI, 0.51-1.84). Compared with before anti-TNF therapy, the incidence of serious infection was significantly decreased more than 1 year after treatment (incidence rate ratio 0.56; 95% CI, 0.33-0.95; P = .03).CONCLUSIONS: In routine clinical practice in Sweden, the incidence rate of serious infection among IBD patients did not increase with anti-TNF therapy. Instead, serious infections seemed to decrease more than 1 year after initiation of anti-TNF treatment

    Does pre-dispersal seed predation limit reproduction and population growth in the alpine clonal plant Geum reptans?

    We studied the impact of the seed damaging gall midge larva Geomyia alpina on its perennial alpine host plant Geum reptans. We analysed the effect of seed predation on reproduction by seeds, i.e. seed number, seed mass, and seed viability and on growth and clonal propagation of non-protected plants in comparison to plants protected from predation by an insecticide. Additionally, we assessed the consequences of seed predation for population growth using matrix projection modelling. Seed predation resulted in a decrease in total seed mass per flower head by 23.8% in non-protected plants (P > 0.05). Individual seed mass decreased with increasing infestation intensity (P > 0.05). Seed number remained unaffected because the sucking feeding behaviour by gall midge larvae does not evoke seed abortion. Percent germination of seeds from non-protected plants was reduced by 97.9% compared to seeds from protected plants. According to reduced seed viability, modelling revealed a decrease in population growth rate from lambda= 1.055 to lambda= 1.041. Predation did neither influence total plant biomass nor biomass fractions. But stolon dry-weight of non-protected plants increased by 24.1% (P > 0.05), which may indicate a trade-off between sexual reproduction and clonal propagation. Our results demonstrate that despite substantial reduction of viable seeds, predation by gall midge larvae only slightly affected population growth of G. reptans suggesting that in this alpine species, persistence by longevity and clonal propagation can balance potential seed losses by predation, at least for local population growth
