Evidence for the accelerated expansion of the Universe from weak lensing tomography with COSMOS
We present a tomographic cosmological weak lensing analysis of the HST COSMOS
Survey. Applying our lensing-optimized data reduction, principal component
interpolation for the ACS PSF, and improved modelling of charge-transfer
inefficiency, we measure a lensing signal which is consistent with pure
gravitational modes and no significant shape systematics. We carefully estimate
the statistical uncertainty from simulated COSMOS-like fields obtained from
ray-tracing through the Millennium Simulation. We test our pipeline on
simulated space-based data, recalibrate non-linear power spectrum corrections
using the ray-tracing, employ photometric redshifts to reduce potential
contamination by intrinsic galaxy alignments, and marginalize over systematic
uncertainties. We find that the lensing signal scales with redshift as expected
from General Relativity for a concordance LCDM cosmology, including the full
cross-correlations between different redshift bins. For a flat LCDM cosmology,
we measure sigma_8(Omega_m/0.3)^0.51=0.75+-0.08 from lensing, in perfect
agreement with WMAP-5, yielding joint constraints Omega_m=0.266+0.025-0.023,
sigma_8=0.802+0.028-0.029 (all 68% conf.). Dropping the assumption of flatness
and using HST Key Project and BBN priors only, we find a negative deceleration
parameter q_0 at 94.3% conf. from the tomographic lensing analysis, providing
independent evidence for the accelerated expansion of the Universe. For a flat
wCDM cosmology and prior w in [-2,0], we obtain w<-0.41 (90% conf.). Our dark
energy constraints are still relatively weak solely due to the limited area of
COSMOS. However, they provide an important demonstration for the usefulness of

Patient profiling for success after weight loss surgery (GO Bypass study):An interdisciplinary study protocol
Despite substantial research efforts, the mechanisms proposed to explain weight loss after gastric bypass (RYGB) and sleeve gastrectomy (SL) do not explain the large individual variation seen after these treatments. A complex set of factors are involved in the onset and development of obesity and these may also be relevant for the understanding of why success with treatments vary considerably between individuals. This calls for explanatory models that take into account not only biological determinants but also behavioral, affective and contextual factors. In this prospective study, we recruited 47 women and 8 men, aged 25–56 years old, with a BMI of 45.8 ± 7.1 kg/m2 from the waiting list for RYGB and SL at Køge hospital, Denmark. Pre-surgery and 1.5, 6 and 18 months after surgery we assessed various endpoints spanning multiple domains. Endpoints were selected on basis of previous studies and include: physiological measures: anthropometrics, vital signs, biochemical measures and appetite hormones, genetics, gut microbiota, appetite sensation, food and taste preferences, neural sensitivity, sensory perception and movement behaviors; psychological measures: general psychiatric symptom-load, depression, eating disorders, ADHD, personality disorder, impulsivity, emotion regulation, attachment pattern, general self-efficacy, alexithymia, internalization of weight bias, addiction, quality of life and trauma; and sociological and anthropological measures: sociodemographic measures, eating behavior, weight control practices and psycho-social factors.Joining these many endpoints and methodologies from different scientific disciplines and creating a multi-dimensional predictive model has not previously been attempted. The association between emotions and eating behaviour in an obese population with binge eating disorder
There is utility in understanding the antecedents of binge eating (BE), with a view to
explaining poorer weight loss treatment responses in this subgroup. A systematic
review was completed according to PRISMA guidelines with the aim of exploring Q3
associations between emotions and eating behaviour in a population affected by
obesity and binge eating disorder (BED). A comprehensive literature search of four
electronic databases (2004–2014) yielded 15 studies for inclusion. Included studies
performed poorly on data quality analysis with respect to controlling for confounding
variables, and sample size. Included papers largely focused on negative emotions
as antecedents of BE; depression was consistently associated with a BEDobese
classification and BE. Negative mood, sadness, tension and instability of
emotions were found to be antecedents of BE in an adult BED-obese sample. However,
findings were mixed regarding the role of stress, anger and positive emotions
within the BED-obese population. Recommendations are presented for the identification
of BED, and ecologically valid experimental designs that further understanding
of the complex and varied emotions that associate with BE. The implications of
these and other limitations for both researchers and practitioners are discussed. The
paper concludes with recommendations for future research alongside suggestions

Evidence for widespread hydrated minerals on asteroid (101955) Bennu
Early spectral data from the Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, and Security-Regolith Explorer (OSIRIS-REx) mission reveal evidence for abundant hydrated minerals on the surface of near-Earth asteroid (101955) Bennu in the form of a near-infrared absorption near 2.7 µm and thermal infrared spectral features that are most similar to those of aqueously altered CM-type carbonaceous chondrites. We observe these spectral features across the surface of Bennu, and there is no evidence of substantial rotational variability at the spatial scales of tens to hundreds of metres observed to date. In the visible and near-infrared (0.4 to 2.4 µm) Bennu’s spectrum appears featureless and with a blue (negative) slope, confirming previous ground-based observations. Bennu may represent a class of objects that could have brought volatiles and organic chemistry to Earth
The dynamic geophysical environment of (101955) Bennu based on OSIRIS-REx measurements
The top-shaped morphology characteristic of asteroid (101955) Bennu, often found among fast-spinning asteroids and binary asteroid primaries, may have contributed substantially to binary asteroid formation. Yet a detailed geophysical analysis of this morphology for a fast-spinning asteroid has not been possible prior to the Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, and Security-Regolith Explorer (OSIRIS-REx) mission. Combining the measured Bennu mass and shape obtained during the Preliminary Survey phase of the OSIRIS-REx mission, we find a notable transition in Bennu’s surface slopes within its rotational Roche lobe, defined as the region where material is energetically trapped to the surface. As the intersection of the rotational Roche lobe with Bennu’s surface has been most recently migrating towards its equator (given Bennu’s increasing spin rate), we infer that Bennu’s surface slopes have been changing across its surface within the last million years. We also find evidence for substantial density heterogeneity within this body, suggesting that its interior is a mixture of voids and boulders. The presence of such heterogeneity and Bennu’s top shape are consistent with spin-induced failure at some point in its past, although the manner of its failure cannot yet be determined. Future measurements by the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft will provide insight into and may resolve questions regarding the formation and evolution of Bennu’s top-shape morphology and its link to the formation of binary asteroids
