    Shaping a Sustainable Old Worthington

    Get PDF
Course Code: ENR/AEDE 4567This project is a collaboration between the Old Worthington Partnership, Old Worthington merchants, American Electric Power (AEP), and the Sustainable Worthington Capstone Group from The Ohio State University’s Environment, Economy, Development, and Sustainability (EEDS) major. Old Worthington is located in the historic downtown of Worthington, Ohio. The Old Worthington Partnership is a volunteer group that aims to enhance the Old Worthington experience by pursuing collaboration, engagement, and sustainability. The Old Worthington Partnership reached out to this capstone group for assistance in implementing AEP’s Small Business Express Program among their eligible merchants.Academic Major: Environment, Economy, Development, and Sustainabilit

    (3aR,8aR)-2,2,6,6-Tetramethyl-4,4,8,8-tetraphenyltetrahydro-1,3-dioxolo[4,5-e][1,3,2]dioxasilepine

The title compound, C33H34O4Si, is a dioxasilepine compound, an effective chiral dopant for the determination of high helical twisting powers in liquid crystals. Its structure consists of a five-membered dioxolo ring fused to a seven-membered dioxasilepine ring which contains two sets of phenyl rings in a twisted butterfly shape attached to the two Csp 3 atoms in the ring opposite each other. Two methyl groups are attached to the Si atom in the ring and two additional methyl groups are attached to the Csp 3 atom in the dioxolo ring (one of which is disordered) and which lies in an envelope pattern. The dihedral angles between the mean planes of the phenyl ring pairs are 85.9 (2) and 83.5 (1)°. The dihedral angles between the mean planes of the dioxolo ring and the two pairs of butterfly shaped phenyl rings are 46.2 (1), 67.7 (1), 35.6 (7) and 83.5 (1)°

Public value and political astuteness in the work of public managers: the art of the possible

    Get PDF
The public value framework, with its call for more entrepreneurial activities by public managers, has attracted concern and criticism about its implicit breaching of the politics/administration dichotomy. This paper explores the role of political astuteness not only in discerning and creating public value, but also in enabling public managers to be sensitive to the dichotomy. We employ a conceptual framework to identify the skills of political astuteness, and then articulate these in relation to identifying and generating public value. Drawing on a survey of 1012 public managers in Australia, New Zealand and the UK, and depth interviews with 42 of them, we examine the perceptions and capabilities of public managers in producing value for the public while traversing the line (or zone) between politics and administration. We conclude that political astuteness is essential to both creating value and maintaining allegiance to democratic principles

Covariant Lagrange multiplier constrained higher derivative gravity with scalar projectors

We formulate higher derivative gravity with Lagrange multiplier constraint and scalar projectors. Its gauge-fixed formulation as well as vector fields formulation is developed and corresponding spontaneous Lorentz symmetry breaking is investigated. We show that the only propagating mode is higher derivative graviton while scalar and vector modes do not propagate. Despite to higher derivatives structure of the action, its first FRW equation is the first order differential equation which admits the inflationary universe solution.Comment: Physics Letters B published version. Finishing the euchromatic sequence of the human genome

    Get PDF
The sequence of the human genome encodes the genetic instructions for human physiology, as well as rich information about human evolution. In 2001, the International Human Genome Sequencing Consortium reported a draft sequence of the euchromatic portion of the human genome. Since then, the international collaboration has worked to convert this draft into a genome sequence with high accuracy and nearly complete coverage. Here, we report the result of this finishing process. The current genome sequence (Build 35) contains 2.85 billion nucleotides interrupted by only 341 gaps. It covers ∼99% of the euchromatic genome and is accurate to an error rate of ∼1 event per 100,000 bases. Many of the remaining euchromatic gaps are associated with segmental duplications and will require focused work with new methods. The near-complete sequence, the first for a vertebrate, greatly improves the precision of biological analyses of the human genome including studies of gene number, birth and death. Notably, the human enome seems to encode only 20,000-25,000 protein-coding genes. The genome sequence reported here should serve as a firm foundation for biomedical research in the decades ahead

Effect of Virtual Reality Interventions on Occupational Participation in Stroke Patients: A Rapid Systematic Review

    No full text
Indiana University Purdue University IndianapolisThis rapid systematic review of the literature examines the literature on effective occupational therapy virtual reality (VR) interventions in rehabilitation of individuals poststroke. This review provides a comprehensive overview and analysis of 25 studies that addressed common themes, including: upper extremity (UE) mobility, functional outcomes, Quality of Life (QoL), and functional performance, related to increasing occupational participation through VR. Findings reveal moderate strength of evidence for the use of VR interventions, in addition to conventional occupational therapy (OT), in supporting individuals’ occupational performance and relative, functional factors contributing to participation in occupations, among individuals following a stroke. This review supports the use of VR interventions for individuals poststroke due to their innovativeness, adaptability, and ability to simulate real-life activities of daily living (ADLs), and supports the use of occupation-based VR interventions which can inform and guide intervention approaches for OT practitioners working in stroke rehabilitation.Occupational Therap
