A Holder Continuous Nowhere Improvable Function with Derivative Singular Distribution
We present a class of functions in which is variant
of the Knopp class of nowhere differentiable functions. We derive estimates
which establish \mathcal{K} \sub C^{0,\al}(\R) for 0<\al<1 but no is pointwise anywhere improvable to C^{0,\be} for any \be>\al.
In particular, all 's are nowhere differentiable with derivatives singular
distributions. furnishes explicit realizations of the functional
analytic result of Berezhnoi.
Recently, the author and simulteously others laid the foundations of
Vector-Valued Calculus of Variations in (Katzourakis), of
-Extremal Quasiconformal maps (Capogna and Raich, Katzourakis) and of
Optimal Lipschitz Extensions of maps (Sheffield and Smart). The "Euler-Lagrange
PDE" of Calculus of Variations in is the nonlinear nondivergence
form Aronsson PDE with as special case the -Laplacian.
Using , we construct singular solutions for these PDEs. In the
scalar case, we partially answered the open regularity problem of
Viscosity Solutions to Aronsson's PDE (Katzourakis). In the vector case, the
solutions can not be rigorously interpreted by existing PDE theories and
justify our new theory of Contact solutions for fully nonlinear systems
(Katzourakis). Validity of arguments of our new theory and failure of classical

Boron Isotope Effect in Superconducting MgB
We report the preparation method of, and boron isotope effect for MgB, a
new binary intermetallic superconductor with a remarkably high superconducting
transition temperature (B) = 40.2 K. Measurements of both
temperature dependent magnetization and specific heat reveal a 1.0 K shift in
between MgB and MgB. Whereas such a high transition
temperature might imply exotic coupling mechanisms, the boron isotope effect in
MgB is consistent with the material being a phonon-mediated BCS

Successful receptor-mediated radiation therapy of xenografted human midgut carcinoid tumour
Somatostatin receptor (sstr)-mediated radiation therapy is a new therapeutic modality for neuroendocrine (NE) tumours. High expression of sstr in NE tumours leads to tumour-specific uptake of radiolabelled somatostatin analogues and high absorbed doses. In this study, we present the first optimised radiation therapy via sstr using [177Lu-DOTA0-Tyr3]-octreotate given to nude mice xenografted with the human midgut carcinoid GOT1. The tumours in 22 out of 23 animals given therapeutic amounts showed dose-dependent, rapid complete remission. The diagnostic amount (0.5âMBq [177Lu-DOTA0-Tyr3]-octreotate) did not influence tumour growth and was rapidly excreted. In contrast, the therapeutic amount (30âMBq [177Lu-DOTA0-Tyr3]-octreotate) induced rapid tumour regression and entrapment of 177Lu so that the activity concentration of 177Lu remained high, 7 and 13 days after injection. The entrapment phenomenon increased the absorbed dose to tumours from 1.6 to 4.0âGyâMBqâ1 and the tumours in animals treated with 30âMBq received 120âGy. Therapeutic amounts of [177Lu-DOTA0-Tyr3]-octreotate rapidly induced apoptosis and gradual development of fibrosis in grafted tumours. In conclusion, human midgut carcinoid xenografts can be cured by receptor-mediated radiation therapy by optimising the uptake of radioligand and taking advantage of the favourable change in biokinetics induced by entrapment of radionuclide in the tumours
The Stromal Processing Peptidase of Chloroplasts is Essential in Arabidopsis, with Knockout Mutations Causing Embryo Arrest after the 16-Cell Stage
Stromal processing peptidase (SPP) is a metalloendopeptidase located in the stroma of chloroplasts, and it is responsible for the cleavage of transit peptides from preproteins upon their import into the organelle. Two independent mutant Arabidopsis lines with T-DNA insertions in the SPP gene were analysed (spp-1 and spp-2). For both lines, no homozygous mutant plants could be detected, and the segregating progeny of spp heterozygotes contained heterozygous and wild-type plants in a ratio of 2â¶1. The siliques of heterozygous spp-1 and spp-2 plants contained many aborted seeds, at a frequency of âŒ25%, suggesting embryo lethality. By contrast, transmission of the spp mutations through the male and female gametes was found to be normal, and so gametophytic effects could be ruled out. To further elucidate the timing of the developmental arrest, mutant and wild-type seeds were cleared and analysed by Nomarski microscopy. A significant proportion (âŒ25%) of the seeds in mutant siliques exhibited delayed embryogenesis compared to those in wild type. Moreover, the mutant embryos never progressed normally beyond the 16-cell stage, with cell divisions not completing properly thereafter. Heterozygous spp mutant plants were phenotypically indistinguishable from the wild type, indicating that the spp knockout mutations are completely recessive and suggesting that one copy of the SPP gene is able to produce sufficient SPP protein for normal development under standard growth conditions
Sensitivity to Gravitational Waves from Compact Binary Coalescences Achieved during LIGO's Fifth and Virgo's First Science Run
We summarize the sensitivity achieved by the LIGO and Virgo gravitational
wave detectors for compact binary coalescence (CBC) searches during LIGO's
fifth science run and Virgo's first science run. We present noise spectral
density curves for each of the four detectors that operated during these
science runs which are representative of the typical performance achieved by
the detectors for CBC searches. These spectra are intended for release to the
public as a summary of detector performance for CBC searches during these

Charge separation relative to the reaction plane in Pb-Pb collisions at TeV
Measurements of charge dependent azimuthal correlations with the ALICE
detector at the LHC are reported for Pb-Pb collisions at TeV. Two- and three-particle charge-dependent azimuthal correlations in
the pseudo-rapidity range are presented as a function of the
collision centrality, particle separation in pseudo-rapidity, and transverse
momentum. A clear signal compatible with a charge-dependent separation relative
to the reaction plane is observed, which shows little or no collision energy
dependence when compared to measurements at RHIC energies. This provides a new
insight for understanding the nature of the charge dependent azimuthal

A note on comonotonicity and positivity of the control components of decoupled quadratic FBSDE
In this small note we are concerned with the solution of Forward-Backward
Stochastic Differential Equations (FBSDE) with drivers that grow quadratically
in the control component (quadratic growth FBSDE or qgFBSDE). The main theorem
is a comparison result that allows comparing componentwise the signs of the
control processes of two different qgFBSDE. As a byproduct one obtains
conditions that allow establishing the positivity of the control process.Comment: accepted for publicatio
Multiplicity dependence of jet-like two-particle correlations in p-Pb collisions at = 5.02 TeV
Two-particle angular correlations between unidentified charged trigger and
associated particles are measured by the ALICE detector in p-Pb collisions at a
nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV. The transverse-momentum
range 0.7 5.0 GeV/ is examined,
to include correlations induced by jets originating from low
momen\-tum-transfer scatterings (minijets). The correlations expressed as
associated yield per trigger particle are obtained in the pseudorapidity range
. The near-side long-range pseudorapidity correlations observed in
high-multiplicity p-Pb collisions are subtracted from both near-side
short-range and away-side correlations in order to remove the non-jet-like
components. The yields in the jet-like peaks are found to be invariant with
event multiplicity with the exception of events with low multiplicity. This
invariance is consistent with the particles being produced via the incoherent
fragmentation of multiple parton--parton scatterings, while the yield related
to the previously observed ridge structures is not jet-related. The number of
uncorrelated sources of particle production is found to increase linearly with
multiplicity, suggesting no saturation of the number of multi-parton
interactions even in the highest multiplicity p-Pb collisions. Further, the
number scales in the intermediate multiplicity region with the number of binary

Two-pion Bose-Einstein correlations in central Pb-Pb collisions at = 2.76 TeV
The first measurement of two-pion Bose-Einstein correlations in central Pb-Pb
collisions at TeV at the Large Hadron Collider is
presented. We observe a growing trend with energy now not only for the
longitudinal and the outward but also for the sideward pion source radius. The
pion homogeneity volume and the decoupling time are significantly larger than
