    El objetivo de esta red es la creación de un Cuaderno de ejercicios gramaticales de lengua árabe en el nivel A1 del Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las Lenguas (MCERL). Se justifica por la escasez de este tipo de materiales ajustados al MCERL, y su necesidad para la progresión en el aprendizaje de la competencia lingüística en contextos docentes presenciales, pero, sobre todo, no presenciales. Las características principales que se le han dado al Cuaderno, además de su ajuste al currículo de lengua árabe y al nivel A1 del MCERL, son: graduación de los ejercicios según dificultad; adecuado como material de autoaprendizaje sin profesor; de fácil ampliación, y trasladable a una plataforma digital. El Cuaderno será utilizado durante el próximo curso con los alumnos de lengua árabe del primer año de los grados de Estudios Árabes e Islámicos y de Traducción e Interpretación, para ser posteriormente ampliado en papel y/o adaptado a una plataforma virtual de enseñanza / aprendizaje, especialmente, Moodle UA

    El objetivo principal propuesto en nuestra red docente es el inicio de la elaboración de un cuaderno de ejercicios gramaticales de lengua árabe en el nivel A2 del Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las Lenguas (MCERL), del que se presentan los primeros resultados. Seguimos la experiencia y orientación que nos marcamos en dos redes anteriores de similares características, en las que se desarrolló y completó un primer cuaderno de nivel A1. Asimismo, nos planteamos el procedimiento a seguir para trasladar este tipo de ejercicios a la plataforma de e-learnig Moodle, utilizando para ello los materiales del Cuaderno A1. Ambos objetivos forman parte de un proyecto más general a medio plazo de elaboración de recursos y materiales docentes para el aprendizaje de la lengua árabe (niveles A1 y A2) para cubrir los créditos no presenciales y siguiendo las orientaciones del MCERL

    Los miembros de la red se han propuesto dos objetivos principales. El primero es la continuación del trabajo en red desarrollado el curso pasado, es decir, de elaboración de ejercicios gramaticales de lengua árabe en el nivel A1 del Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las Lenguas (MCERL), trabajo que se justificaba por la escasez de este tipo de materiales para la lengua árabe adaptados a las directrices del MCERL y del resto de documentos relativos al proceso de enseñanza/aprendizaje promovidos por el Consejo de Europa. En esta ocasión se ha logrado dar forma provisional, pero apta para su utilización, al primer cuaderno de ejercicios en el nivel A1 del MCERL, y se ha comenzado el trabajo de elaboración del siguiente cuaderno, nivel A2, que podría concluirse durante el próximo curso académico. El segundo objetivo radica en examinar el grado de acuerdo entre las guías docentes, la práctica docente y las directrices del MCERL. Se trata de una acción de coordinación docente, impulsada desde la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras en general para las nuevas titulaciones. Como resultado, se han reelaborado los objetivos y contenidos de dos guías docentes, en concreto las de las asignaturas de lengua árabe correspondientes al nivel A1 del grado en Traducción e Interpretación

    Physical training induces beneficial adaptation, whereas exhaustive exercises increase reactive oxygen-species generation, thereby causing oxidative damage in plasma and erythrocytes, fractions susceptible to lipid peroxidation. Pequi (Caryocar brasiliense Camb.) is a Brazilian Cerrado fruit containing a carotenoid-rich oil. The aim was to investigate the effects of pequi-oil on exercise-induced oxidative damage in plasma and erythrocytes, after running in the same environment and undergoing weekly training under the same conditions as to type, intensity and length. Evaluations were accomplished after outdoor running on flat land before and after ingestion of 400 mg pequi-oil capsules for 14 days. Blood samples were taken after running and submitted to TBARS assay and erythrogram analysis. Haptoglobin, MnSOD (Val9Ala), CAT (21A/T) and GPX1 (Pro198Leu) gene polymorphisms were priorly investigated, so as to estimate genetic influence The reduction in erythrocytes, hemoglobin and hematocrit after pequi-oil treatment was notably associated with higher plasma expansion. Except for MCHC (mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration) and RDW (red cell distribution width), the results were influenced by the polymorphisms studied. The best response to pequi-oil was presented by MnSOD Val/Val, CAT AA or AT genotypes and the GPX1 Pro allele. The significantly lower RDW and higher MHCH values were related to pequi-oil protective effects. Pequi oil, besides possessing other nutritional properties, showed protective blood effects

    Toxic metals in toenails as biomarkers of exposure: A review

To evaluate this issue, we reviewed the literature on: a) the time-window of exposure reflected by toenails; b) the reproducibility of toenail toxic-metal levels in repeated measures over time; c) their relationship with other biomarkers of exposure, and; d) their association with potential determinants (i.e. sociodemographic, anthropometric, or lifestyle characteristics) or with sources of exposure like diet or environmental pollution. Thus, we performed a systematic review, searching for articles that provided original data for levels of any of the following toxic metals in toenails: aluminum, beryllium, cadmium, chromium, mercury, nickel, lead, thallium and uranium. We identified 88 articles, reporting data from 67 different research projects, which were quite heterogeneous with regard to population profile, sample size and analytical technique. The most commonly studied metal was mercury. Concerning the time-window of exposure explored by toenails, some reports indicate that toenail cadmium, nickel and lead may reflect exposures that occurred 7–12 months before sampling. For repeated samples obtained 1–6 years apart, the range of intraindividual correlation coefficients of aluminum, chromium and mercury was 0.33–0.56. The correlation of toxic metal concentrations between toenails and other matrices was higher for hair and fingernails than for urine or blood. Mercury levels were consistently associated with fish intake, while other toxic metals were occasionally associated with specific sources (e.g. drinking water, place of residence, environmental pollution, and occupation). The most frequently evaluated health endpoints were cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and central nervous system diseases. Available data suggest that toenail mercury levels reflected long-term exposures and showed positive associations with fish intake. The lack of standardization in sample collection, quality control, analytical techniques and procedures – along with the heterogeneity and conflicting results among studies – mean it is still difficult to conclude that toenails are a good biomarker of exposure to toxic metals.     Berberine, a popular dietary supplement for human and animal health: Quantitative research literature analysis a review

    Berberine is an alkaloid with a wide range of reported beneficial health effects. The current work provides an extensive literature analysis on berberine. Bibliometric data were identified by means of the search string TOPIC=(berberin* OR umbellatine*), which yielded 5,547 publications indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection electronic database. The VOSviewer software generated bubble maps to visualize semantic terms with citation results. The ratio of original articles to reviews was 13.6:1. The literature has been growing more quickly since the 2010s. Major contributing countries were China, the United States, India, Japan, and South Korea. Most of the publications appeared in journals specialized in pharmacology pharmacy, biochemistry molecular biology, chemistry, and plant science. Some of the frequently mentioned chemicals/chemical classes were alkaloid, palmatine, jatrorrhizine, coptisine, isoquinoline, and sanguinarine.     Understanding How Microplastics Affect Marine Biota on the Cellular Level Is Important for Assessing Ecosystem Function: A Review

    Plastic has become indispensable for human life. When plastic debris is discarded into waterways, these items can interact with organisms. Of particular concern are microscopic plastic particles (microplastics) which are subject to ingestion by several taxa. This review summarizes the results of cutting-edge research about the interactions between a range of aquatic species and microplastics, including effects on biota physiology and secondary ingestion. Uptake pathways via digestive or ventilatory systems are discussed, including (1) the physical penetration of microplastic particles into cellular structures, (2) leaching of chemical additives or adsorbed persistent organic pollutants (POPs), and (3) consequences of bacterial or viral microbiota contamination associated with microplastic ingestion. Following uptake, a number of individual-level effects have been observed, including reduction of feeding activities, reduced growth and reproduction through cellular modifications, and oxidative stress. Microplastic-associated effects on marine biota have become increasingly investigated with growing concerns regarding human health through trophic transfer. We argue that research on the cellular interactions with microplastics provide an understanding of their impact to the organisms’ fitness and, therefore, its ability to sustain their functional role in the ecosystem. The review summarizes information from 236 scientific publications. Of those, only 4.6% extrapolate their research of microplastic intake on individual species to the impact on ecosystem functioning. We emphasize the need for risk evaluation from organismal effects to an ecosystem level to effectively evaluate the effect of microplastic pollution on marine environments. Further studies are encouraged to investigate sublethal effects in the context of environmentally relevant microplastic pollution conditions

    Toenails as biomarker of exposure to essential trace metals: A review

    Health problems associated with essential trace metals can result from both inadequate (i.e., low intake) and excessive exposures (i.e., from environmental and/or occupational source). Thus, measuring the exposure level is a real challenge for epidemiologists. Among non-invasive biomarkers that intend to measure long-term exposure to essential trace metals, the toenail is probably the biological matrix with the greatest potential. This systematic review collects the current evidence regarding the validity of toenail clippings as exposure biomarker for trace metals such as boron, cobalt, copper, iron, manganese, molybdenum, selenium, silicon, vanadium and zinc. Special attention was paid to the time-window of exposure reflected by the toenail, the intraindividual variability in exposure levels over time in this matrix, and the relationship of toenail with other biomarkers, personal characteristics and environmental sources. Our search identified 139 papers, with selenium and zinc being the most studied elements. The variability among studies suggests that toenail levels may reflect different degrees of exposure and probably correspond to exposures occurred 3–12 months before sampling (i.e., for manganese/selenium). Few studies assessed the reproducibility of results over time and, for samples obtained 1–6 years apart, the correlation coefficient were between 0.26 and 0.66.
