Bullying is seen as “a conscious, intentional, hostile and systematic behaviour, from one or more people, with harmful intent towards others” (Souza, Simão & Caetano, 2014, p. 582). Even though its study is considered recent, bullying as a phenomenon of great impact particularly in the lives of children and juveniles has always existed. Additionally, the new technologies have brought a new dimension to the traditional bullying – cyberbullying – i.e. violence attained through the Internet. There is a close relation between these two concepts and being so prevalent in present-day society, especially amongst adolescents, we have identified a need to develop a more in depth research on this subject. We correlate bullying, cyberbullying, social support and isolation aiming to understand the relevant and crucial connections between these occurrences. We then inquired if in nowadays society the youths who feel more fulfilled with the support they receive from others, are less exposed to bullying/cyberbullying (either as victims or aggressors) and if there is any correlation with isolation, as this generation appears more absent of offline relationships, due, among other factors, to the time they expended on the Internet. Our ultimate goal lies in the prevention and intervention with the youths and with the interpersonal relationships they experience. The study focused on students from the 3rd cycle of basic education from a Portuguese school, with a sample of 145 students with a mean age of 13.52 years old. The data was collected using tools such as a Sociodemographic Questioner, a scholar victimization and aggression scale: EVAE (Cunha,S.M-s/d), a Cyberbullying Questioner: CQ_A-Questionário Cyberbullying (Calvete, Orue, Estevez, Villardón, & Padilla, 2009 – Portuguese version translated and adapted by Pinto e Cunha, in 2011), a scale of social support satisfaction: ESS (Ribeiro, J., 1999) and an internet usage Questioner developed by us. In summary, we concluded that the acquired results do not confirm statically significant differences between EVAE, CBQ and CBQ-V. However, statistical differences were observed in ESSS, more specifically in areas of Family Satisfaction, Intimacy and Social Activity

Reconstruction of large nasal defects, represents a challenge for Dermatologic Surgeon. We present a 87-year-old patient, with a large dimension squamous cell carcinoma, 3x2cm in the dorsum and the root of the nose. The surgical defect had a triangular shape. The realization of a flap conditioned a great movement of tissue and time- -consuming surgery. Due to the patient co-morbidities, was performed a total skin graft, with the skin of the glabella. The glabella is a good resource to perform grafts in this area, with good cosmetic quality, minimizing technical difficulties and complications of more invasive procedures.KEYWORDS – Nose; Reconstructive surgical procedures; Skin transplantation; Surgical flaps.

Prospective anticancer metallodrugs should consider target-specific components in their design in order to overcome the limitations of the current chemotherapeutics. The inclusion of vitamins, which receptors are overexpressed in many cancer cell lines, has proven to be a valid strategy. Therefore, in this paper we report the synthesis and characterization of a set of new compounds [Ru(eta(5)-C5H5)(P(C6H4R)(3))(4,4'-R'-2,2'-bpy)](+) (R = F and R' = H, 3; R = F and R' = biotin, 4; R = OCH3 and R' = H, 5; R = OCH3 and R' = biotin, 6), inspired by the exceptional good results recently obtained for the analogue bearing a triphenylphosphane ligand. The precursors for these syntheses were also described following modified literature procedures, [Ru(eta(5)-C5H3)(P(C6H4R)(3))(2)Cl], where R is -F (1) or -OCH3 (2). The structure of all compounds is fully supported by spectroscopic and analytical techniques and by X-ray diffraction studies for compounds 2, 3, and 5. All cationic compounds are cytotoxic in the two breast cancer cell lines tested, MCF7 and MDA-MB-231, and much better than cisplatin under the same experimental conditions. The cytotoxicity of the biotinylated compounds seems to be related with the Ru uptake by the cells expressing biotin receptors, indicating a potential mediated uptake. Indeed, a biotin-avidin study confirmed that the attachment of biotin to the organometallic fragment still allows biotin recognition by the protein. Therefore, the biotinylated compounds might be potent anticancer drugs as they show cytotoxic effect in breast cancer cells at low dose dependent on the compounds' uptake, induce cell death by apoptosis and inhibit the colony formation of cancer cells causing also less severe side effects in zebrafish. This work was financed by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (Fundacao para a Crencia e Tecnologia, FCT) within the scope of Projects UID/QUI/00100/2019 and PTDC/QUI-QIN/28662/2017. In this work, we aimed to understand the biological activity and the mechanism of action of three polymer-'ruthenium-cyclopentadienyl' conjugates (RuPMC) and a low molecular weight parental compound (Ru1) in cancer cells. Several biological assays were performed in ovarian (A2780) and breast (MCF7, MDA-MB-231) human cancer derived cell lines as well as in A2780cis, a cisplatin resistant cancer cell line. Our results show that all compounds have high activity towards cancer cells with low IC50 values in the micromolar range. We observed that all Ru-PMC compounds are mainly found inside the cells, in contrast with the parental low molecular weight compound Ru1 that was mainly found at the membrane. All compounds induced mitochondrial alterations. PMC3 and Ru1 caused F-actin cytoskeleton morphology changes and reduced the clonogenic ability of the cells. The conjugate PMC3 induced apoptosis at low concentrations comparing to cisplatin and could overcame the platinum resistance of A2780cis cancer cells. A proteomic analysis showed that these compounds induce alterations in several cellular proteins which are related to the phenotypic disorders induced by them. Our results suggest that PMC3 is foreseen as a lead candidate to future studies and acting through a different mechanism of action than cisplatin. Here we established the potential of these Ru compounds as new metallodrugs for cancer chemotherapy. This work was financed by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (Fundacao para a Ciencia e a Tecnologia, FCT) within the scope of projects UID/QUI/00100/2013 and PTDC/QUI-QIN/28662/2017. The preservation of natural resources is essential to the balance of Environmental systems. Water is an indispensable natural resource for life. In order to implement the environmental management of this resource, the National Water Resources Policy was created based on some principles, such as the adoption of the watershed as a planning unit. The use of geotechnologies constitutes an important tool for this work, since it allows evaluating the area to be studied, to visualize the situation of the vegetation cover and the soil, besides attaching them to georeferenced databases. The objective of this work is the environmental analysis of the Olho D’Água River Watershed, located in the Municipality of Jardim, State of Mato Grosso do Sul. For the delimitation of this watershed, SRTM data were used and with the objective of evaluating the quality of the coverage of this area, the NDVI was calculated based on the scenes of Landstat TM sensor. Subsequently, the classes of Permanent Preservation Area were analyzed. It was concluded that the conservation status of Permanent Preservation Area is in compliance with environmental legislation, fulfilling its role in maintaining biodiversity and the quality of water resources. The use of geotechnologies allowed the integration of various levels of information, generating maps, characterizing the environment and producing information that helps in the planning and management of Cabeceira do Prata Farm

Spanish cohort of VEXAS syndrome : clinical manifestations, outcome of treatments and novel evidences about UBA1 mosaicism

The vacuoles, E1-enzyme, X linked, autoinflammatory and somatic (VEXAS) syndrome is an adult-onset autoinflammatory disease (AID) due to postzygotic UBA1 variants. To investigate the presence of VEXAS syndrome among patients with adult-onset undiagnosed AID. Additional studies evaluated the mosaicism distribution and the circulating cytokines. Gene analyses were performed by both Sanger and amplicon-based deep sequencing. Patients' data were collected from their medical charts. Cytokines were quantified by Luminex. Genetic analyses of enrolled patients (n=42) identified 30 patients carrying UBA1 pathogenic variants, with frequencies compatible for postzygotic variants. All patients were male individuals who presented with a late-onset disease (mean 67.5 years; median 67.0 years) characterised by cutaneous lesions (90%), fever (66.7%), pulmonary manifestations (66.7%) and arthritis (53.3%). Macrocytic anaemia and increased erythrocyte sedimentation rate and ferritin were the most relevant analytical abnormalities. Glucocorticoids ameliorated the inflammatory manifestations, but most patients became glucocorticoid-dependent. Positive responses were obtained when targeting the haematopoietic component of the disease with either decitabine or allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Additional analyses detected the UBA1 variants in both haematopoietic and non-haematopoietic tissues. Finally, analysis of circulating cytokines did not identify inflammatory mediators of the disease. Thirty patients with adult-onset AID were definitively diagnosed with VEXAS syndrome through genetic analyses. Despite minor interindividual differences, their main characteristics were in concordance with previous reports. We detected for the first time the UBA1 mosaicism in non-haematopoietic tissue, which questions the previous concept of myeloid-restricted mosaicism and may have conceptual consequences for the disease mechanisms

The Fourteenth Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey: First Spectroscopic Data from the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey and from the second phase of the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment

    Get PDF
The fourth generation of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-IV) has been in operation since July 2014. This paper describes the second data release from this phase, and the fourteenth from SDSS overall (making this, Data Release Fourteen or DR14). This release makes public data taken by SDSS-IV in its first two years of operation (July 2014-2016). Like all previous SDSS releases, DR14 is cumulative, including the most recent reductions and calibrations of all data taken by SDSS since the first phase began operations in 2000. New in DR14 is the first public release of data from the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS); the first data from the second phase of the Apache Point Observatory (APO) Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE-2), including stellar parameter estimates from an innovative data driven machine learning algorithm known as "The Cannon"; and almost twice as many data cubes from the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at APO (MaNGA) survey as were in the previous release (N = 2812 in total). This paper describes the location and format of the publicly available data from SDSS-IV surveys. We provide references to the important technical papers describing how these data have been taken (both targeting and observation details) and processed for scientific use. The SDSS website (www.sdss.org) has been updated for this release, and provides links to data downloads, as well as tutorials and examples of data use. SDSS-IV is planning to continue to collect astronomical data until 2020, and will be followed by SDSS-V.Comment: SDSS-IV collaboration alphabetical author data release paper. DR14 happened on 31st July 2017. 19 pages, 5 figures. The 13th Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey: First Spectroscopic Data from the SDSS-IV Survey Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory

    Get PDF
The fourth generation of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-IV) began observations in July 2014. It pursues three core programs: APOGEE-2,MaNGA, and eBOSS. In addition, eBOSS contains two major subprograms: TDSS and SPIDERS. This paper describes the first data release from SDSS-IV, Data Release 13 (DR13), which contains new data, reanalysis of existing data sets and, like all SDSS data releases, is inclusive of previously released data. DR13 makes publicly available 1390 spatially resolved integral field unit observations of nearby galaxies from MaNGA,the first data released from this survey. It includes new observations from eBOSS, completing SEQUELS. In addition to targeting galaxies and quasars, SEQUELS also targeted variability-selected objects from TDSS and X-ray selected objects from SPIDERS. DR13 includes new reductions ofthe SDSS-III BOSS data, improving the spectrophotometric calibration and redshift classification. DR13 releases new reductions of the APOGEE-1data from SDSS-III, with abundances of elements not previously included and improved stellar parameters for dwarf stars and cooler stars. For the SDSS imaging data, DR13 provides new, more robust and precise photometric calibrations. Several value-added catalogs are being released in tandem with DR13, in particular target catalogs relevant for eBOSS, TDSS, and SPIDERS, and an updated red-clump catalog for APOGEE.This paper describes the location and format of the data now publicly available, as well as providing references to the important technical papers that describe the targeting, observing, and data reduction. The SDSS website, http://www.sdss.org, provides links to the data, tutorials and examples of data access, and extensive documentation of the reduction and analysis procedures. DR13 is the first of a scheduled set that will contain new data and analyses from the planned ~6-year operations of SDSS-IV.PostprintPeer reviewe
