Predicción del Índice de Reposición en Montanera para la clasificación de canales de cerdo Ibérico según régimen alimenticio mediante el análisis no destructivo por Espectroscopía del Infrarrojo Cercano
The classification of Iberian pig carcasses into different commercial categories according to feeding regime was evaluated by means of a non-destructive analysis of the subcutaneous adipose tissue using Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS). A quantitative approach was used to predict the Acorn-Grass Weight Gain Index (AGWGI), and a set of criteria was established for commercial classification purposes. A total of 719 animals belonging to various batches, reflecting a wide range of feeding regimes, production systems and years, were analyzed with a view to developing and evaluating quantitative NIRS models. Results for the external validation of these models indicate that NIRS made clear differentiation of batches as a function of three feeding regimes possible with high accuracy (Acorn, Recebo and Feed), on the basis of the mean representative spectra of each batch. Moreover, individual analysis of the animals showed a broad consensus between field inspection information and the classification based on the AGWGI NIRS prediction, especially for extreme categories (Acorn and Feed).La clasificación en distintas categorías comerciales según régimen alimenticio de canales de cerdo Ibérico fue evaluada mediante el análisis no destructivo de muestras de tejido adiposo subcutáneo por Espectroscopía del Infrarrojo Cercano (NIRS). Partiendo de una aproximación cuantitativa para predecir el Índice de Reposición en Montanera (IRM) se establecieron una serie de criterios para proceder a su clasificación comercial. Se analizaron un total de 719 animales pertenecientes a diversas partidas, que recogen una amplia variabilidad de muestras de distintos regímenes alimenticios, campañas y sistemas productivos, para el desarrollo y evaluación de los modelos NIRS cuantitativos. Los resultados de validación externa de los modelos indicaron que es posible discriminar con una gran exactitud entre partidas de distintos categorías (Bellota, Recebo y Cebo), en base al espectro medio representativo de cada partida. Además, el análisis individualizado de los animales mostró un amplio consenso entre la información recibida de campo y la clasificación en base a la predicción del parámetro IRM por NIRS, sobre todo para categorías con características extremas (Bellota y Cebo)
Development of an estimative model for the optimal tack coat dosage based on aggregate gradation of hot mix asphalt pavements
In this work the performance of tack coats on asphalt pavement layers is analysed. Adjustment models based on experimental measurements were implemented, relating surface layer macro-texture and aggregate content larger than 8 mm. The best fits were obtained with a Gompertz model, which follows the expected physical macro-texture changes outside the test range. Shear strength was analysed, through prediction curves of each evaluated tack coat dosage, with an optimum tack coat performance for aggregate contents larger than 8 mm between 45% and 50%, and no relevant influence of the tack coat dosage used.The authors would like to acknowledge the support provided by the Technologic Research Construction Group (GITECO) and the Group of Roads of Santander at Cantabria University for the development of tests and samples. Effect of extreme El Niño events on the precipitation of Ecuador
Extreme El Niño events stand out not only because they have powerful impacts but also because they are significantly different from other El Niños. In Ecuador, such events are accountable for
negatively impacting the economy, infrastructure, and population. Spatial–temporal
dynamics of precipitation anomalies from various types of extreme El
Niño events are analyzed and compared. Results show that for eastern Pacific (EP) and coastal Pacific (COA) El Niño types, most precipitation extremes occur in the first half of the second year of the event. Any significant difference
between events becomes more evident at this stage. Spatially, for any event, 50 % of all extreme anomalies occurred at elevations < 150 m. The difference between events was significant when considering the altitude when reaching 80 % of all extreme anomalies: the eastern Pacific (EP) El Niño from 1997/98 (EP98) at 500 m, the El Niño from January to April 2017 (COA17) at 800 m, and the EP El
Niño from 1982/83 (EP83) at 1000 m. Nevertheless, in some sectors of the Andean Cordillera, the El Niño–Southern
Oscillation (ENSO) signal could be detected at 3200–3900 m. The distance to the coastline and the
steepness of relief may play a determining role. At lowlands, anomalies are
most severe in regions where the seasonality index is the highest. These results
are useful at different decision-making levels for identifying the most
appropriate practices reducing vulnerability from a potential increase in
extreme El Niño frequency and intensity.</p
Habitat quality affects the condition of Luciobarbus sclateri in the Guadiamar River (SW Iberian Peninsula): Effects of disturbances by the toxic spill of the Aznalcóllar mine
This study analyzes the somatic condition of southern Iberian barbel Luciobarbus sclateri (Günther, 1868) in the Guadiamar River (SW Iberian Peninsula). This river was seriously affected by a toxic spill of about 4 million cubic meters of acidic water and 2 million cubic meters of mud rich in heavy metals. Once the spill removal works concluded, sites affected and unaffected by the accident were sampled to study its effects on the fish fauna. The ecological variables registered were related to water quality, physical state of reaches, ecological quality, resources exploited by fish, and potential intra-specific interactions. From an initial 15 ecological variables, seasonal water flow and pH explained most of the variation in barbel condition. This study shows that the Guadiamar River, 56 months after the accident, is still undergoing a recovery process where, beyond ecological variables, proximity to the affected area is the most influential factor for fish condition. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media B.V
The Fourteenth Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey: First Spectroscopic Data from the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey and from the second phase of the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment
The fourth generation of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-IV) has been in
operation since July 2014. This paper describes the second data release from
this phase, and the fourteenth from SDSS overall (making this, Data Release
Fourteen or DR14). This release makes public data taken by SDSS-IV in its first
two years of operation (July 2014-2016). Like all previous SDSS releases, DR14
is cumulative, including the most recent reductions and calibrations of all
data taken by SDSS since the first phase began operations in 2000. New in DR14
is the first public release of data from the extended Baryon Oscillation
Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS); the first data from the second phase of the
Apache Point Observatory (APO) Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE-2),
including stellar parameter estimates from an innovative data driven machine
learning algorithm known as "The Cannon"; and almost twice as many data cubes
from the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at APO (MaNGA) survey as were in the previous
release (N = 2812 in total). This paper describes the location and format of
the publicly available data from SDSS-IV surveys. We provide references to the
important technical papers describing how these data have been taken (both
targeting and observation details) and processed for scientific use. The SDSS
website (www.sdss.org) has been updated for this release, and provides links to
data downloads, as well as tutorials and examples of data use. SDSS-IV is
planning to continue to collect astronomical data until 2020, and will be

Chemical Abundances of M-Dwarfs from the Apogee Survey. I. The Exoplanet Hosting Stars Kepler-138 and Kepler-186
We report the first detailed chemical abundance analysis of the exoplanet-hosting M-dwarf stars Kepler-138 and Kepler-186 from the analysis of high-resolution (R ∼ 22,500) H-band spectra from the SDSS-IV–APOGEE survey. Chemical abundances of 13 elements—C, O, Na, Mg, Al, Si, K, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, and Fe—are extracted from the APOGEE spectra of these early M-dwarfs via spectrum syntheses computed with an improved line list that takes into account H2O and FeH lines. This paper demonstrates that APOGEE spectra can be analyzed to determine detailed chemical compositions of M-dwarfs. Both exoplanet-hosting M-dwarfs display modest subsolar metallicities: [Fe/H]Kepler-138 = −0.09 ± 0.09 dex and [Fe/H]Kepler-186 = −0.08 ± 0.10 dex. The measured metallicities resulting from this high-resolution analysis are found to be higher by ∼0.1–0.2 dex than previous estimates from lower-resolution spectra. The C/O ratios obtained for the two planet-hosting stars are near-solar, with values of 0.55 ± 0.10 for Kepler-138 and 0.52 ± 0.12 for Kepler-186. Kepler-186 exhibits a marginally enhanced [Si/Fe] ratio
Final Targeting Strategy for the SDSS-IV APOGEE-2N Survey
APOGEE-2 is a dual-hemisphere, near-infrared (NIR), spectroscopic survey with
the goal of producing a chemo-dynamical mapping of the Milky Way Galaxy. The
targeting for APOGEE-2 is complex and has evolved with time. In this paper, we
present the updates and additions to the initial targeting strategy for
APOGEE-2N presented in Zasowski et al. (2017). These modifications come in two
implementation modes: (i) "Ancillary Science Programs" competitively awarded to
SDSS-IV PIs through proposal calls in 2015 and 2017 for the pursuit of new
scientific avenues outside the main survey, and (ii) an effective 1.5-year
expansion of the survey, known as the Bright Time Extension, made possible
through accrued efficiency gains over the first years of the APOGEE-2N project.
For the 23 distinct ancillary programs, we provide descriptions of the
scientific aims, target selection, and how to identify these targets within the
APOGEE-2 sample. The Bright Time Extension permitted changes to the main survey
strategy, the inclusion of new programs in response to scientific discoveries
or to exploit major new datasets not available at the outset of the survey
design, and expansions of existing programs to enhance their scientific success
and reach. After describing the motivations, implementation, and assessment of
these programs, we also leave a summary of lessons learned from nearly a decade
of APOGEE-1 and APOGEE-2 survey operations. A companion paper, Santana et al.
(submitted), provides a complementary presentation of targeting modifications

Safety and tolerance of vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 infection in systemic lupus erythematosus: results from the COVAD study
Objective
To determine COVID-19 vaccine-related adverse events (AEs) in the seven-day post-vaccination period in patients with SLE vs autoimmune rheumatic diseases (AIRDs), non-rheumatic autoimmune diseases (nrAIDs), and healthy controls (HC).
Methods
Data were captured through the COVID-19 Vaccination in Autoimmune Diseases (COVAD) questionnaire (March–December 2021). Multivariable regression models accounted for age, gender, ethnicity, vaccine type and background treatment.
Results
Among 9462 complete respondents, 583 (6.2%) were SLE patients (mean age: 40.1 years; 94.5% females; 40.5% Asian; 42.9% Pfizer-recipients). Minor AEs were reported by 83.0% of SLE patients, major by 2.6%, hospitalization by 0.2%. AE and hospitalization frequencies were similar between patients with active and inactive SLE. Rashes were more frequent in SLE patients vs HC (OR; 95% CI: 1.2; 1.0, 1.5), chills less frequent in SLE vs AIRDs (0.6; 0.4, 0.8) and nrAIDs (0.5; 0.3, 0.8), and fatigue less frequent in SLE vs nrAIDs (0.6; 0.4, 0.9). Pfizer-recipients reported higher overall AE (2.2; 1.1, 4.2) and injection site pain (2.9; 1.6, 5.0) frequencies than recipients of other vaccines, Oxford/AstraZeneca-recipients more body ache, fever, chills (OR: 2.5, 3.0), Moderna-recipients more body ache, fever, chills, rashes (OR: 2.6, 4.3). Hospitalization frequencies were similar across vaccine types. AE frequencies were similar across treatment groups, although chills were less frequent in antimalarial users vs non-users (0.5; 0.3, 0.9).
Conclusion
While COVID-19 vaccination-related AEs were reported by four-fifths of SLE patients, those were mostly minor and comparable to AEs reported by healthy individuals, providing reassurance regarding COVID-19 vaccination safety in SLE
