Melting or nucleon transfer in fusion of heavy nuclei?
The time-dependent transition between a diabatic interaction potential in the
entrance channel and an adiabatic potential during the fusion process is
investigated within the two-center shell model. A large hindrance is obtained
for the motion to smaller elongations of near symmetric dinuclear systems. The
comparison of the calculated energy thresholds for the complete fusion in
different relevant collective variables shows that the dinuclear system prefers
to evolve in the mass asymmetry coordinate by nucleon transfer to the compound
nucleus.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Phys.Lett.
Dynamical restriction for a growing neck due to mass parameters in a dinuclear system
Mass parameters for collective variables of a dinuclear system and strongly
deformed mononucleus are microscopically formulated with the linear response
theory making use of the width of single particle states and the
fluctuation-dissipation theorem. For the relative motion of the nuclei and for
the degree of freedom describing the neck between the nuclei, we calculate mass
parameters with basis states of the adiabatic and diabatic two-center shell
model. Microscopical mass parameters are found larger than the ones obtained
with the hydrodynamical model and give a strong hindrance for a melting of the
dinuclear system along the internuclear distance into a compound system.
Therefore, the dinuclear system lives a long time enough comparable to the
reaction time for fusion by nucleon transfer. Consequences of this effect for
the complete fusion process are discussed.Comment: 22 pages, 7 figures, submitted to Nucl.Phys.
Isotopic dependence of fusion cross sections in reactions with heavy nuclei
The dependence of fusion cross section on the isotopic composition of
colliding nuclei is analysed within the dinuclear system concept for compound
nucleus formation. Probabilities of fusion and surviving probabilities,
ingredients of the evaporation residue cross sections, depend decisively on the
neutron numbers of the dinuclear system. Evaporation residue cross sections for
the production of actinides and superheavy nuclei, listed in table form, are
discussed and compared with existing experimental data. Neutron-rich
radioactive projectiles are shown to lead to similar fusion cross sections as
stable projectiles.Comment: 13 pages, 10 figure

Dynamic study on fusion reactions for Ca+Zr around Coulomb barrier
By using the updated improved Quantum Molecular Dynamics model in which a
surface-symmetry potential term has been introduced for the first time, the
excitation functions for fusion reactions of Ca+Zr at
energies around the Coulomb barrier have been studied. The experimental data of
the fusion cross sections for Ca+Zr have been reproduced
remarkably well without introducing any new parameters. The fusion cross
sections for the neutron-rich fusion reactions of Ca+Zr around
the Coulomb barrier are predicted to be enhanced compared with a
non-neutron-rich fusion reaction. In order to clarify the mechanism of the
enhancement of the fusion cross sections for neutron-rich nuclear fusions, we
pay a great attention to study the dynamic lowering of the Coulomb barrier
during a neck formation. The isospin effect on the barrier lowering is
investigated. It is interesting that the effect of the projectile and target
nuclear structure on fusion dynamics can be revealed to a certain extent in our
approach. The time evolution of the N/Z ratio at the neck region has been
firstly illustrated. A large enhancement of the N/Z ratio at neck region for
neutron-rich nuclear fusion reactions is found.Comment: 21 pages, 7 figures,3 table
Pulsar-wind nebulae and magnetar outflows: observations at radio, X-ray, and gamma-ray wavelengths
We review observations of several classes of neutron-star-powered outflows:
pulsar-wind nebulae (PWNe) inside shell supernova remnants (SNRs), PWNe
interacting directly with interstellar medium (ISM), and magnetar-powered
outflows. We describe radio, X-ray, and gamma-ray observations of PWNe,
focusing first on integrated spectral-energy distributions (SEDs) and global
spectral properties. High-resolution X-ray imaging of PWNe shows a bewildering
array of morphologies, with jets, trails, and other structures. Several of the
23 so far identified magnetars show evidence for continuous or sporadic
emission of material, sometimes associated with giant flares, and a few
possible "magnetar-wind nebulae" have been recently identified.Comment: 61 pages, 44 figures (reduced in quality for size reasons). Published

Ceftazidime-avibactam versus meropenem in nosocomial pneumonia, including ventilator-associated pneumonia (REPROVE): a randomised, double-blind, phase 3 non-inferiority trial
Background: Nosocomial pneumonia is commonly associated with antimicrobial-resistant Gram-negative pathogens. We aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of ceftazidime-avibactam in patients with nosocomial pneumonia, including ventilator-associated pneumonia, compared with meropenem in a multinational, phase 3, double-blind, non-inferiority trial (REPROVE). Methods: Adults with nosocomial pneumonia (including ventilator-associated pneumonia), enrolled at 136 centres in 23 countries, were randomly assigned (1:1) to 2000 mg ceftazidime and 500 mg avibactam (by 2 h intravenous infusion every 8 h) or 1000 mg meropenem (by 30-min intravenous infusion every 8 h) for 7-14 days; regimens were adjusted for renal function. Computer-generated randomisation codes were stratified by infection type and geographical region with a block size of four. Participants and investigators were masked to treatment assignment. The primary endpoint was clinical cure at the test-of-cure visit (21-25 days after randomisation). Non-inferiority was concluded if the lower limit of the two-sided 95% CI for the treatment difference was greater than -12·5% in the coprimary clinically modified intention-to-treat and clinically evaluable populations. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT01808092) and EudraCT (2012-004006-96). Findings: Between April 13, 2013, and Dec 11, 2015, 879 patients were randomly assigned. 808 patients were included in the safety population, 726 were included in the clinically modified intention-to-treat population, and 527 were included in the clinically evaluable population. Predominant Gram-negative baseline pathogens in the microbiologically modified intention-to-treat population (n=355) were Klebsiella pneumoniae (37%) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (30%); 28% were ceftazidime-non-susceptible. In the clinically modified intention-to-treat population, 245 (68·8%) of 356 patients in the ceftazidime-avibactam group were clinically cured, compared with 270 (73·0%) of 370 patients in the meropenem group (difference -4·2% [95% CI -10·8 to 2·5] ). In the clinically evaluable population, 199 (77·4%) of 257 participants were clinically cured in the ceftazidime-avibactam group, compared with 211 (78·1%) of 270 in the meropenem group (difference -0·7% [95% CI -7·9 to 6·4]). Adverse events occurred in 302 (75%) of 405 patients in the ceftazidime-avibactam group versus 299 (74%) of 403 in the meropenem group (safety population), and were mostly mild or moderate in intensity and unrelated to study treatment. Serious adverse events occurred in 75 (19%) patients in the ceftazidime-avibactam group and 54 (13%) patients in the meropenem group. Four serious adverse events (all in the ceftazidime-avibactam group) were judged to be treatment related. Interpretation: Ceftazidime-avibactam was non-inferior to meropenem in the treatment of nosocomial pneumonia. These results support a role for ceftazidime-avibactam as a potential alternative to carbapenems in patients with nosocomial pneumonia (including ventilator-associated pneumonia) caused by Gram-negative pathogens. Projectile breakup dynamics for Li + Co: kinematical analysis of - coincidences
A study of the kinematics of the - coincidences in the Li +
Co system at a bombarding energy of MeV is presented.
With exclusive measurements performed over different angular intervals it is
possible to identify the respective contributions of the sequential projectile
breakup and direct projectile breakup components. A careful analysis using a
semiclassical approach of these processes provides information on both their
lifetime and their distance of occurrence with respect to the target. Breakup
to the low-lying (near-threshold) continuum is delayed, and happens at large
internuclear distances. This suggests that the influence of the projectile
breakup on the complete fusion process can be related essentially to direct
breakup to the Li high-lying continuum spectrum. %Comment: Revised version including new Fig.3 and Fig.4 with new CDCC

Anisotropic flow of charged hadrons, pions and (anti-)protons measured at high transverse momentum in Pb-Pb collisions at TeV
The elliptic, , triangular, , and quadrangular, , azimuthal
anisotropic flow coefficients are measured for unidentified charged particles,
pions and (anti-)protons in Pb-Pb collisions at TeV
with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Results obtained with the
event plane and four-particle cumulant methods are reported for the
pseudo-rapidity range at different collision centralities and as a
function of transverse momentum, , out to GeV/.
The observed non-zero elliptic and triangular flow depends only weakly on
transverse momentum for GeV/. The small dependence
of the difference between elliptic flow results obtained from the event plane
and four-particle cumulant methods suggests a common origin of flow
fluctuations up to GeV/. The magnitude of the (anti-)proton
elliptic and triangular flow is larger than that of pions out to at least
GeV/ indicating that the particle type dependence persists out
to high .Comment: 16 pages, 5 captioned figures, authors from page 11, published
