The magnetic precursor of L1448-mm: Excitation differences between ion and neutral fluids
Shock modelling predicts an electron density enhancement within the magnetic
precursor of C-shocks. Previous observations of SiO, H13CO+, HN13C and H13CN
toward the young L1448-mm outflow showed an over-excitation of the ion fluid
that was attributed to an electron density enhancement in the precursor. We
re-visit this interpretation and test if it still holds when we consider
different source morphologies and kinetic temperatures for the observed
molecules, and also give some insight on the spatial extent of the electron
density enhancement around L1448-mm.
We estimate the opacities of H13CO+ and HN13C by observing the J=3\to2 lines
of rarer isotopologues to confirm that the emission is optically thin. To model
the excitation of the molecules, we use the large velocity gradient (LVG)
approximation with updated collisional coefficients to i) re- analyse the
observations toward the positions where the over-excitation of H13CO+ has
previously been observed [i.e. toward L1448- mm at offsets (0,0) and (0,-10)],
and ii) to investigate if the electron density enhancement is still required
for the cases of extended and compact emission, and for kinetic temperatures of
up to 400 K. We also report several lines of SiO, HN13C and H13CO+ toward new
positions around this outflow, to investigate the spatial extent of the
over-excitation of the ions in L1448-mm. From the isotopologue observations, we
find that the emission of H13CO+ and HN13C from the precursor is optically thin
if this emission is extended. Using the new collisional coefficients, an
electron density enhancement is still needed to explain the excitation of
H13CO+ for extended emission and for gas temperatures of\le 400 K toward
L1448-mm (0,-10), and possibly also toward L1448-mm (0,0). For compact emission
the data cannot be fitted. We do not find any evidence for the over-excitation
of the ion fluid toward the newly observed positions around L1448-mm.
The observed line emission of SiO, H13CO+ and HN13C toward L1448-mm (0,0) and
(0,-10) is consistent with an electron density enhancement in the precursor
component, if this emission is spatially extended. This is also true for the
case of high gas temperatures (\le400 K) toward the (0,-10) offset. The
electron density enhancement seems to be restricted to the southern, redshifted
lobe of the L1448-mm outflow. Interferometric images of the line emission of
these molecules are needed to confirm the spatial extent of the over-excitation
of the ions and thus, of the electron density enhancement in the magnetic

Austrolebias queguay (Cyprinodontiformes, Rivulidae), a new species of annual killifish endemic to the lower Uruguay river basin
In this article we describe a new species of the annual fish genus Austrolebias from the lower Uruguay river basin. The fusion of the urogenital papilla to the first anal fin ray in males and the pigmentation pattern, indicates a close relationship with the clade formed by A. bellottii, A. melanoorus, and A. univentripinnis. The new species can be differentiated from those by the following combination of characters: presence of well-defined light bands contrasting with the sides of the body, the distal portion of the anal fin dark gray, pelvic fins dark bluish green and bases united at about 50–80% on their medial margins, pectoral fins with iridescent blue sub-marginal band, and general coloration of body bluish green. The new species can only be found in wetlands of the Queguay river, an area included in the Uruguayan protected areas system and represents so far the only annual fish species endemic to the lower Uruguay river basin

SiO line emission from C-type shock waves : interstellar jets and outflows
We study the production of SiO in the gas phase of molecular outflows,
through the sputtering of Si--bearing material in refractory grain cores, which
are taken to be olivine; we calculate also the rotational line spectrum of the
SiO. The sputtering is driven by neutral particle impact on charged grains, in
steady--state C-type shock waves, at the speed of ambipolar diffusion. The
emission of the SiO molecule is calculated by means of an LVG code. A grid of
models has been generated. We compare our results with those of an earlier
study (Schilke et al. 1997). Improvements in the treatment of the coupling
between the charged grains and the neutral fluid lead to narrower shock waves
and lower fractions of Si being released into the gas phase. More realistic
assumptions concerning the initial fractional abundance of O2 lead to SiO
formation being delayed, so that it occurs in the cool, dense postshock flow.
Good agreement is obtained with recent observations of SiO line intensities in
the L1157 and L1448 molecular outflows. The inferred temperature, opacity, and
SiO column density in the emission region differ significantly from those
estimated by means of LVG `slab' models. The fractional abundance of SiO is
deduced. Observed line profiles are wider than predicted and imply multiple,

Review of the family Rivulidae (Cyprinodontiformes, Aplocheiloidei) and a molecular and morphological phylogeny of the annual fish genus Austrolebias Costa 1998
The family Rivulidae is the fourth most diverse clade of Neotropical fishes. Together with some genera of the related African family Nothobranchiidae, many rivulids exhibit a characteristic annual life cycle, with diapausing eggs and delayed embryonic development, which allows them to survive in the challenging seasonal ponds that they inhabit. Rivulidae also includes two species known as the only the self-fertilizing vertebrates and some species with internal fertilization. The first goal of this article is to review the systematics of the family considering phylogenetic relationships and synapomorphies of subfamilial clades, thus unifying information that is dispersed throughout the literature. From this revision, it is clear that phylogenetic relationships within Rivulidae are poorly resolved, especially in one of the large clades that compose it, the subfamily Rivulinae, where conflicting hypotheses of relationships of non-annual and annual genera are evident. The second goal of this work is to present an updated phylogenetic hypothesis (based on mitochondrial, nuclear, and morphological information) for one of the most speciose genus of Rivulidae, Austrolebias. Our results confirm the monophyly of the genus and of some subgeneric clades already diagnosed, but propose new relationships among them and their species composition, particularly in the subgenus Acrolebias.La familia Rivulidae es el cuarto clado más diverso dentro de los peces Neotropicales. la componen, reuniendo información que se encuentra dispersa en la literatura. De esta revisión surge que las relaciones filogenéticas dentro de Rivulidae están todavÃa sin resolver, especialmente en uno de los grandes clados que la componen, la subfamilia Rivulinae, donde relaciones conflictivas entre géneros anuales y no anuales son evidentes. El segundo objetivo de este trabajo es presentar una hipótesis filogenética, basada en datos morfológicos, mitocondriales y nucleares, de uno de los géneros más diversos de la familia, el género Austrolebias. Nuestros resultados confirman la monofilia del género y de algunos clados subgenéricos previamente definidos, y propone nuevas relaciones entre ellos, particularmente de las especies del subgénero Acrolebias
The Herschel HIFI water line survey in the low-mass proto-stellar outflow L1448
As part of the WISH (Water In Star-forming regions with Herschel) key
project, we report on the observations of several ortho- and para-H2O lines
performed with the HIFI instrument towards two bright shock spots (R4 and B2)
along the outflow driven by the L1448 low-mass proto-stellar system, located in
the Perseus cloud. These data are used to identify the physical conditions
giving rise to the H2O emission and infer any dependence with velocity. These
observations provide evidence that the observed water lines probe a warm
(T_kin~400-600 K) and very dense (n 10^6 - 10^7 cm^-3) gas, not traced by other
molecules, such as low-J CO and SiO, but rather traced by mid-IR H2 emission.
In particular, H2O shows strong differences with SiO in the excitation
conditions and in the line profiles in the two observed shocked positions,
pointing to chemical variations across the various velocity regimes and
chemical evolution in the different shock spots. Physical and kinematical
differences can be seen at the two shocked positions. At the R4 position, two
velocity components with different excitation can be distinguished, with the
component at higher velocity (R4-HV) being less extended and less dense than
the low velocity component (R4-LV). H2O column densities of about 2 10^13 and 4
10^14 cm^-2 have been derived for the R4-LV and the R4-HV components,
respectively. The conditions inferred for the B2 position are similar to those
of the R4-HV component, with H2O column density in the range 10^14 - 5 10^14
cm^-2, corresponding to H2O/H2 abundances in the range 0.5 - 1 10^-5. The
observed line ratios and the derived physical conditions seem to be more
consistent with excitation in a low velocity J-type shock with large
compression rather than in a stationary C-shock, although none of these
stationary models seems able to reproduce all the characteristics of the

Microstructural damage of the posterior corpus callosum contributes to the clinical severity of neglect
One theory to account for neglect symptoms in patients with right focal damage invokes a release of inhibition of the right parietal cortex over the left parieto-frontal circuits, by disconnection mechanism. This theory is supported by transcranial magnetic stimulation studies showing the existence of asymmetric inhibitory interactions between the left and right posterior parietal cortex, with a right hemispheric advantage. These inhibitory mechanisms are mediated by direct transcallosal projections located in the posterior portions of the corpus callosum. The current study, using diffusion imaging and tract-based spatial statistics (TBSS), aims at assessing, in a data-driven fashion, the contribution of structural disconnection between hemispheres in determining the presence and severity of neglect. Eleven patients with right acute stroke and 11 healthy matched controls underwent MRI at 3T, including diffusion imaging, and T1-weighted volumes. TBSS was modified to account for the presence of the lesion and used to assess the presence and extension of changes in diffusion indices of microscopic white matter integrity in the left hemisphere of patients compared to controls, and to investigate, by correlation analysis, whether this damage might account for the presence and severity of patients' neglect, as assessed by the Behavioural Inattention Test (BIT). None of the patients had any macroscopic abnormality in the left hemisphere; however, 3 cases were discarded due to image artefacts in the MRI data. Conversely, TBSS analysis revealed widespread changes in diffusion indices in most of their left hemisphere tracts, with a predominant involvement of the corpus callosum and its projections on the parietal white matter. A region of association between patients' scores at BIT and brain FA values was found in the posterior part of the corpus callosum. This study strongly supports the hypothesis of a major role of structural disconnection between the right and left parietal cortex in determining 'neglect'
First detection of NH3 (1,0 - 0,0) from a low mass cloud core: On the low ammonia abundance of the rho Oph A core
Odin has successfully observed the molecular core rho Oph A in the 572.5 GHz
rotational ground state line of ammonia, NH3 (J,K = 1,0 - 0,0). The
interpretation of this result makes use of complementary molecular line data
obtained from the ground (C17O and CH3OH) as part of the Odin preparatory work.
Comparison of these observations with theoretical model calculations of line
excitation and transfer yields a quite ordinary abundance of methanol, X(CH3OH)
= 3e-9. Unless NH3 is not entirely segregated from C17O and CH3OH, ammonia is
found to be significantly underabundant with respect to typical dense core

The molecular distribution of the IRDC G351.77-0.51
Infrared dark clouds are massive, dense clouds seen in extinction against the
IR Galactic background. Many of these objects appear to be on the verge of star
and star cluster formation. Our aim is to understand the physical properties of
IRDCs in very early evolutionary phases. We selected the filamentary IRDC
G351.77 - 0.51, which is remarkably IR quiet at 8{\mu}m. As a first step, we
observed mm dust continuum emission and rotational lines of moderate and dense
gas tracers to characterise different condensations along the IRDC and study
the velocity field of the filament. Our initial study confirms coherent
velocity distribution along the infrared dark cloud ruling out any coincidental
projection effects. Excellent correlation between MIR extinction, mm continuum
emission and gas distribution is found. Large-scale turbulence and line
profiles throughout the filament is indicative of a shock in this cloud.
Excellent correlation between line width, and MIR brightness indicates

Plasmonic excitations in noble metals: The case of Ag
The delicate interplay between plasmonic excitations and interband
transitions in noble metals is described by means of {\it ab initio}
calculations and a simple model in which the conduction electron plasmon is
coupled to the continuum of electron-hole pairs. Band structure effects,
specially the energy at which the excitation of the -like bands takes place,
determine the existence of a subthreshold plasmonic mode, which manifests
itself in Ag as a sharp resonance at 3.8 eV. However, such a resonance is not
observed in the other noble metals. Here, this different behavior is also
