THE CASTAGNONE SITE (CERRINA VALLEY, MONFERRATO HILLS, NW ITALY): EARLY PLEISTOCENE SEDIMENTARY RECORD AND BIOCHRONOLOGY
Geological researches carried out near che Castagnone hamlet in che Cerrina Valley (Northem Monferrato Hills, Piedmont, NW Italy), have brought to light a post-Messinian succession whose sedimentary record starts with a Lower Complex of pedogenized colluvial materials and with two superimposed Alluvial Units (I and II). The lower one of these units contains a Galerian macrofauna associated with microtine vole teeth (Mimomys savini, Mimomys pusillus, Ungaromys cf. U. nanus, Microtus (Allophaiomys) sp.), while che upper one yields only scarce faunal remains. Most of this sediments were deposited during a normal palaeomagnetic phase. The I Alluvial Unit, due to its biochronological correlation, must be referred to the Jaramillo Subchron, between 1,070,000 and 990,000 years ago. The II Alluvial Unit, being both unconformable with and younger than the first one, might be best referable to the Brunhes Chron. Overall, the bed dipping across the reported succession shows a progressive syn-sedimentary tilting, with accelerated deformation during the I Alluvial Unit deposition. This tectonic stress over the Castagnone area is seemingly related to the uplift of the north-easternmost ridge of che Monferrato Hills and appears to have been nearly exhausted before the II Alluvial Unit deposition. 
Pot growing Media Amendment with Calcium Cyanamide and Weed Control Relationships
The aim of this research was to characterize the effect of a pre-transplant calcium cyanamide fertilization on weed control in the potted bedding ornamental plant Impatiens wallerana and to describe the physiological mechanisms involved. The positive effect of a calcium cyanamide amendment included both ammonium toxicity on weed seed germination and a decrease of weed rates growth such as relative leaf expansion rate (RLAE) and relative growth rate (RGR). Data showed RGR-NAR (net assimilation rate), RLAE-RGR, RLAE-NAR and RGR-root dry weight relationships, which would explain ammonium toxicity to roots and weed growth responses. These effects probably could be explained by a change in hormonal root synthesis. Our results showed that a pre-transplant calcium cyanamide amendment combining with a transplant routine optimize both I. wallerana growth and weed control.Fil: Leytur, M.. Il volume costituisce la sintesi scientifica delle ricerche preistoriche che lâUniversitĂ degli Studi di Ferrara ha effettuato negli ultimi 50 anni, coprendo un arco temporale che comprende culturalmente il periodo che va dal Paleolitico inferiore al Mesolitico.
Nel tentativo di fornire un quadro quanto piĂč completo ed esaustivo delle ricerche la monografia Ăš concepita come un catalogo di agile consultazione suddiviso in base ai siti archeologici scavati dai professori e ricercatori nel corso del tempo.
Per ciascun sito si descrivono molteplici aspetti, dalle modalitĂ di intervento allo studio di vari settori disciplinari (stratigrafia, geologia, palinologia, paleontologia, paletnologia, ecc..)
Foxg1 localizes to mitochondria and coordinates cell differentiation and bioenergetics.
Forkhead box g1 (Foxg1) is a nuclear-cytosolic transcription factor essential for the forebrain development and involved in neurodevelopmental and cancer pathologies. Despite the importance of this protein, little is known about the modalities by which it exerts such a large number of cellular functions. Here we show that a fraction of Foxg1 is localized within the mitochondria in cell lines, primary neuronal or glial cell cultures, and in the mouse cortex. Import of Foxg1 in isolated mitochondria appears to be membrane potential-dependent. Amino acids (aa) 277-302 were identified as critical for mitochondrial localization. Overexpression of full-length Foxg1 enhanced mitochondrial membrane potential (ÎΚm) and promoted mitochondrial fission and mitosis. Conversely, overexpression of the C-term Foxg1 (aa 272-481), which is selectively localized in the mitochondrial matrix, enhanced organelle fusion and promoted the early phase of neuronal differentiation. These findings suggest that the different subcellular localizations of Foxg1 control the machinery that brings about cell differentiation, replication, and bioenergetics, possibly linking mitochondrial functions to embryonic development and pathological conditions
Water safety in healthcare facilities. The Vieste Charter
The Study Group on Hospital Hygiene of the Italian Society of Hygiene, Preventive Medicine and Public Health (GISIO-SItI) and the Local Health Authority of Foggia, Apulia, Italy, after the National Convention "Safe water in healthcare facilities" held in Vieste-Pugnochiuso on 27-28 May 2016, present the "Vieste Charter", drawn up in collaboration with experts from the National Institute of Health and the Ministry of Health. This paper considers the risk factors that may affect the water safety in healthcare facilities and reports the current regulatory frameworks governing the management of installations and the quality of the water. The Authors promote a careful analysis of the risks that characterize the health facilities, for the control of which specific actions are recommended in various areas, including water safety plans; approval of treatments; healthcare facilities responsibility, installation and maintenance of facilities; multidisciplinary approach; education and research; regional and national coordination; communication

Magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound unilateral thalamotomy for medically refractory essential tremor: 3-year follow-up data
IntroductionMagnetic resonanceâguided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) thalamotomy of the ventralis intermediate (Vim) nucleus is an âincisionlessâ treatment for medically refractory essential tremor (ET). We present data on 49 consecutive cases of MRgFUS Vim thalamotomy followed-up for 3âyears and review the literature on studies with longer follow-up data.MethodsA retrospective chart review of patients who underwent MRgFUS thalamotomy (January 2018âDecember 2020) at our institution was performed. Clinical Rating Scale for Tremor (CRST) and Quality of Life in Essential Tremor (QUEST) scores were obtained pre-operatively and at each follow-up with an assessment of side effects. Patients had post-operative magnetic resonance imaging within 24âh and at 1âmonth to figure out lesion location, size, and extent. The results of studies with follow-up â„3âyears were summarized through a literature review.ResultsThe CRST total (baseline: 58.6â±â17.1, 3-year: 40.8â±â18.0) and subscale scores (Aâ+âB, baseline: 23.5â±â6.3, 3-year: 12.8â±â7.9; C, baseline: 12.7â±â4.3, 3-year: 5.8â±â3.9) and the QUEST score (baseline: 38.0â±â14.8, 3-year: 18.7â±â13.3) showed significant improvement that was stable during the 3-year follow-up. Three patients reported tremor recurrence and two were satisfactorily retreated. Side effects were reported by 44% of patients (severe: 4%, mild and transient: 40%). The improvement in tremor and quality of life in our cohort was consistent with the literature.ConclusionWe confirmed the effectiveness and safety of MRgFUS Vim thalamotomy in medically refractory ET up to 3âyears
Standalone vertex ïŹnding in the ATLAS muon spectrometer
A dedicated reconstruction algorithm to find decay vertices in the ATLAS muon spectrometer is presented. The algorithm searches the region just upstream of or inside the muon spectrometer volume for multi-particle vertices that originate from the decay of particles with long decay paths. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated using both a sample of simulated Higgs boson events, in which the Higgs boson decays to long-lived neutral particles that in turn decay to bbar b final states, and pp collision data at âs = 7 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC during 2011
Measurements of Higgs boson production and couplings in diboson final states with the ATLAS detector at the LHC
Measurements are presented of production properties and couplings of the recently discovered Higgs boson using the decays into boson pairs, H âÎł Îł, H â Z Zâ â4l and H âW Wâ âlÎœlÎœ. The results are based on the complete pp collision data sample recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider at centre-of-mass energies of âs = 7 TeV and âs = 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 25 fbâ1. Evidence for Higgs boson production through vector-boson fusion is reported. Results of combined ïŹts probing Higgs boson couplings to fermions and bosons, as well as anomalous contributions to loop-induced production and decay modes, are presented. All measurements are consistent with expectations for the Standard Model Higgs boson
