Optimal taxation policy maximum-entropy approach
The object of this paper is firstly to present entropic measure of income inequality and secondly to develop maximum entropy approaches for the optimal reduction of income inequality through taxation.
Multi-objective possibilistic model for portfolio selection with transaction cost
AbstractIn this paper, we introduce the possibilistic mean value and variance of continuous distribution, rather than probability distributions. We propose a multi-objective Portfolio based model and added another entropy objective function to generate a well diversified asset portfolio within optimal asset allocation. For quantifying any potential return and risk, portfolio liquidity is taken into account and a multi-objective non-linear programming model for portfolio rebalancing with transaction cost is proposed. The models are illustrated with numerical examples
Evaluation of potential rice (Oryza sativa L.) genotypes with different levels of N under rainfed shallow lowland situation
A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the yield of potential rice genotypes during kharif season, 2012 and 2013 at Rice Research Station, Bankura, West Bengal, India on sandy loam soil of slightly acidic in reaction (pH: 5.7). This experiment was conducted in split-plot design with three replications. The results indicated that 105 kg N ha-1, the yield attributes recorded maximum number of panicles m-2 (307.9), panicle length (25.3cm), panicle weight (2.32g), number of filled grains per panicle (117.8), 1000-grains weight (24.5g) and finally recorded highest grain yield (4.80 t ha-1) than lower fertilities. While, 70 kg N ha-1 was remained closed to 105 kg N ha-1 in number of panicles m-2, panicle weight and number of filled grains per panicle. Among the potential rice varieties âSampritiâ (IET 21987) recorded the highest grain yield (4.66 t ha-1) under rainfed shallow lowland situation of red and laterite zone of West Bengal. The highest grain yield (4.80 t ha-1) was obtained at 105 kg N ha-1and it was statistically at par with 70 kg N ha-1 (4.62 t ha-1). Therefore, the increased in grain yield of rice by the varieties due to overall respective performance in growth and appreciable improvement in the yield attributing characters
Transient Approach to Radiative Heat Transfer Free Convection Flow with Ramped Wall Temperature
The effect of radiation on natural convection incompressible viscous fluid near a vertical flat plate with ramped wall
temperature has been studied. An analytical solution of the governing equation has been obtained by employing
Laplace transform technique. It is examined that two different solutions for the fluid velocities, one valid for fluids of
Prandtl number Pr different from 1 Ra , Ra being the radiation parameter and the other for which the Prandtl
number equal to 1 Ra . The variations of velocities and fluid temperature are presented graphically. Furthermore,
the radiative heat transfer on natural convection flow near a ramped plate temperature has been compared with the
flow near a plate with the constant wall temperature. It is found that an increase in radiation parameter leads to rise
the fluid velocity as well as temperature
The structure of flame filaments in chaotic flows
The structure of flame filaments resulting from chaotic mixing within a
combustion reaction is considered. The transverse profile of the filaments is
investigated numerically and analytically based on a one-dimensional model that
represents the effect of stirring as a convergent flow. The dependence of the
steady solutions on the Damkohler number and Lewis number is treated in detail.
It is found that, below a critical Damkohler number Da(crit), the flame is
quenched by the flow. The quenching transition appears as a result of a
saddle-node bifurcation where the stable steady filament solution collides with
an unstable one. The shape of the steady solutions for the concentration and
temperature profiles changes with the Lewis number and the value of Da(crit)
increases monotonically with the Lewis number. Properties of the solutions are
studied analytically in the limit of large Damkohler number and for small and

Current status of arsenic contamination in drinkingwater and treatment practice in some rural areas of West Bengal, India
The aim of the present investigation was to draw the current scenario of arsenic (As) contamination in drinking water of community tube well and drinking water treated by tube wells installed with different adsorbent media-based treatment plants in districts Nadia, Hooghly and North 24-Parganas districts, West Bengal, India. As removal efficiencies of different treatment plants varied from 23 to 71%, which is largely governed by adsorption capacity of adsorbent and influencing environmental factors. Though investigated treatment plants removed substantial amount of As from tube well water, high As concentration in treated drinking water was retained after passing through the treatment plants. This high level of As concentration in tube well water and retention of high As concentration in treated drinking water were severe for the consumers which therefore, indicating the improvement of removal efficiency of treatment plant by meticulously considering favorable influencing factors or/and application of other high capacity treatment alternatives to adsorb the excess As retained in drinking water and regular monitoring of As concentration in the treated drinking water are indispensable
BioDiVinE: A Framework for Parallel Analysis of Biological Models
In this paper a novel tool BioDiVinEfor parallel analysis of biological
models is presented. The tool allows analysis of biological models specified in
terms of a set of chemical reactions. Chemical reactions are transformed into a
system of multi-affine differential equations. BioDiVinE employs techniques for
finite discrete abstraction of the continuous state space. At that level,
parallel analysis algorithms based on model checking are provided. In the
paper, the key tool features are described and their application is
demonstrated by means of a case study
Effects of Partial Edge Loading and Fibre Configuration on Vibration and Buckling Characteristics of Stiffened Composite Plates
Measurement of the polarisation of W bosons produced with large transverse momentum in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV with the ATLAS experiment
This paper describes an analysis of the angular distribution of W->enu and
W->munu decays, using data from pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV recorded with
the ATLAS detector at the LHC in 2010, corresponding to an integrated
luminosity of about 35 pb^-1. Using the decay lepton transverse momentum and
the missing transverse energy, the W decay angular distribution projected onto
the transverse plane is obtained and analysed in terms of helicity fractions
f0, fL and fR over two ranges of W transverse momentum (ptw): 35 < ptw < 50 GeV
and ptw > 50 GeV. Good agreement is found with theoretical predictions. For ptw
> 50 GeV, the values of f0 and fL-fR, averaged over charge and lepton flavour,
are measured to be : f0 = 0.127 +/- 0.030 +/- 0.108 and fL-fR = 0.252 +/- 0.017
+/- 0.030, where the first uncertainties are statistical, and the second
