Anti-Inflammatory Activity of Triterpenes Isolated from Protium paniculatum

Protium is the main genus of the Burseraceae family and one of the most common genera in South America, with an important species called “breu.” Gum and oil-resins of this species are used as tonic and stimulant and for the treatment of ulcers and inflammation. The present study aims to isolate and investigate the anti-inflammatory activity of triterpene compounds isolated from oil-resin of Protium paniculatum. The pentacyclic triterpenes α,β-amyrin, acetylated α,β-amyrin, α,β-amyrone, and brein/maniladiol did not alter the viability of murine J774 macrophages (IC50 > 20 µg/mL), with the exception of mixture of brein/maniladiol which showed moderate cytotoxic activity. Also it was observed that compounds at 10 µg/mL inhibited more than 80% of production of NO•, although only α,β-amyrin was able to inhibit the production of TNF-α (52.03±2.4%). The compounds inhibited the production of IL-6 and induced the production of IL-10 in murine J774 macrophages stimulated by LPS. α,β-Amyrone inhibited the expression of COX-2 and also inhibited the formation of paw or ear edema in rats and mice, having a quick and immediate effect. This study may provide the basis for future investigations on the therapeutic role of α,β-amyrone in treating inflammation

Discutindo a educação ambiental no cotidiano escolar: desenvolvimento de projetos na escola formação inicial e continuada de professores

    Get PDF

New Heteronuclear Supramolecular Assemblies Based on a Robson-Type Macrocycle: Structure and Spectroscopic Properties

    No full text
Novel tetraiminodiphenolate (tidf2−) supramolecular assemblies containing palladium, cobalt, copper and iron(II) have been prepared and characterized by X-ray crystallography, and FTIR and UV–Vis spectroscopies. Complex 1 crystallizes as [PdCo(tidf)(H2O)2]2([Fe(CN)5NO])2·7H2O, and contains a planar macrocycle, while complex 2, [PdCu(tidf)(H2O)(ClO4)]2([Fe(CN)4(CNH)2])·2H2O, shows a slightly bent heterocyclic unit. Both structures exhibited supramolecular architectures maintained through extensive hydrogen bonding networks. Graphical Abstract: Two unique polynuclear complexes 2[PdCo(tidf)(H2O)2]([Fe(CN)5)NO])2·7H2O and 2[PdCu(tidf)(H2O)(ClO4)]([Fe(CN)4(CNH)2])·2H2O (tidf is a symmetrical tetraiminodiphenolate Robson type macrocyclic ligand) were prepared and their molecular structures and spectroscopic properties are discussed. Update on the profile of the EUSTAR cohort: an analysis of the EULAR Scleroderma Trials and Research group database

Objectives Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare disease requiring multicentre collaboration to reveal comprehensive details of disease-related causes for morbidity and mortality. Methods The European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) Scleroderma Trials and Research (EUSTAR) group initiated a database to prospectively gather key data of patients with SSc using a minimal essential dataset that was reorganised in 2008 introducing new items. Baseline visit data of patients who were registered between 2004 and 2011 were analysed using descriptive statistics. Results In June 2011, 7655 patients (2838 with diffuse cutaneous (dc) and 4481 with limited cutaneous (lc) SSc who fulfilled the American College of Rheumatology diagnostic criteria had been registered in 174 centres, mainly European. The most prominent hallmarks of disease were Raynaud's phenomenon (96.3%), antinuclear antibodies (93.4%) and a typical capillaroscopic pattern (90.9%). Scleroderma was more common on fingers and hands than on any other part of the skin. Proton pump inhibitors (65.2%), calcium channel blockers (52.7%), and corticosteroids (45.3%) were most often prescribed. Among the immunosuppressant agents, cyclophosphamide was used more often in dcSSc than in lcSSc.Conclusions The EUSTAR database provides an abundance of information on the true clinical face of SSc that will be helpful in improving the classification of SSc and its subsets and for developing more specific therapeutic recommendations
