Nuclear Effects in Deep Inelastic Scattering of Charged-Current Neutrino off Nuclear
Nuclear effect in the neutrino-nucleus charged-Current inelastic scattering
process is studied by analyzing the CCFR and NuTeV data. Structure functions
and as well as differential cross sections are
calculated by using CTEQ parton distribution functions and EKRS and HKN nuclear
parton distribution functions, and compared with the CCFR and NuTeV data. It is
found that the corrections of nuclear effect to the differential cross section
for the charged-current anti-neutrino scattering on nucleus are negligible, the
EMC effect exists in the neutrino structure function in the large
region, the shadowing and anti-shadowing effect occurs in the distribution
functions of valence quarks in the small and medium region,respectively. It
is also found that shadowing effects on in the small region in
the neutrino-nucleus and the charged-lepton-nucleus deep inelastic scattering
processes are different. It is clear that the neutrino-nucleus deep inelastic
scattering data should further be employed in restricting nuclear parton

Grassroots Agency: Participation and Conflict in Buenos Aires Shantytowns seen through the Pilot Plan for Villa 7 (1971–1975)
open access articleIn 1971, after more than a decade of national and municipal policies aimed at the top-down removal of shantytowns, the Buenos Aires City Council approved the Plan Piloto para la Relocalización de Villa 7 (Pilot Plan for the Relocation of Shantytown 7; 1971–1975, referred to as the Pilot Plan hereinafter). This particular plan, which resulted in the construction of the housing complex, Barrio Justo Suárez, endures in the collective memory of Argentines as a landmark project regarding grassroots participation in state housing initiatives addressed at shantytowns. Emerging from a context of a housing shortage for the growing urban poor and intense popular mobilizations during the transition to democracy, the authors of the Pilot Plan sought to empower shantytown residents in novel ways by: 1) maintaining the shantytown’s location as opposed to eradication schemes that relocated the residents elsewhere, 2) formally employing some of the residents for the stage of construction, as opposed to “self-help” housing projects in which the residents contributed with unpaid labor, and 3) including them in the urban and architectural design of the of the new housing.
This paper will examine the context in which the Pilot Plan was conceived of as a way of re-assessing the roles of the state, the user, and housing-related professionals, often seen as antagonistic. The paper argues that residents’ fair participation and state intervention in housing schemes are not necessarily incompatible, and can function in specific social and political contexts through multiactor proposals backed by a political will that prioritizes grassroots agency
Elliptic flow of charged particles in Pb-Pb collisions at 2.76 TeV
We report the first measurement of charged particle elliptic flow in Pb-Pb
collisions at 2.76 TeV with the ALICE detector at the CERN Large Hadron
Collider. The measurement is performed in the central pseudorapidity region
(||<0.8) and transverse momentum range 0.2< < 5.0 GeV/. The
elliptic flow signal v, measured using the 4-particle correlation method,
averaged over transverse momentum and pseudorapidity is 0.087 0.002
(stat) 0.004 (syst) in the 40-50% centrality class. The differential
elliptic flow v reaches a maximum of 0.2 near = 3
GeV/. Compared to RHIC Au-Au collisions at 200 GeV, the elliptic flow
increases by about 30%. Some hydrodynamic model predictions which include

Disentangling Income Inequality and the Redistributive Effect of Taxes and Transfers in 20 LIS Countries Over Time
Higher harmonic anisotropic flow measurements of charged particles in Pb-Pb collisions at 2.76 TeV
We report on the first measurement of the triangular , quadrangular
, and pentagonal charged particle flow in Pb-Pb collisions at 2.76
TeV measured with the ALICE detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. We show
that the triangular flow can be described in terms of the initial spatial
anisotropy and its fluctuations, which provides strong constraints on its
origin. In the most central events, where the elliptic flow and
have similar magnitude, a double peaked structure in the two-particle azimuthal
correlations is observed, which is often interpreted as a Mach cone response to
fast partons. We show that this structure can be naturally explained from the

The combination effects of trivalent gold ions and gold nanoparticles with different antibiotics against resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Despite much success in drug design and development, Pseudomonas aeruginosa is still considered as one of the most problematic bacteria due to its ability to develop mutational resistance against a variety of antibiotics. In search for new strategies to enhance antibacterial activity of antibiotics, in this work, the combination effect of gold materials including trivalent gold ions (Au ) and gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) with 14 different antibiotics was investigated against the clinical isolates of P. aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Disk diffusion assay was carried out, and test strains were treated with the sub-inhibitory contents of gold nanomaterial. Results showed that Au NPs did not increase the antibacterial effect of antibiotics at tested concentration (40 μg/disc). However, the susceptibility of resistant P. aeruginosa increased in the presence of Au and methicillin, erythromycin, vancomycin, penicillin G, clindamycin and nalidixic acid, up to 147 %. As an individual experiment, the same group of antibiotics was tested for their activity against clinical isolates of S. aureus, E. coli and a different resistant strain of P. aeruginosa in the presence of sub-inhibitory contents of Au , where Au increased the susceptibility of test strains to methicillin, erythromycin, vancomycin, penicillin G, clindamycin and nalidixic acid. Our finding suggested that using the combination of sub-inhibitory concentrations of Au and methicillin, erythromycin, nalidixic acid or vancomycin may be a promising new strategy for the treatment of highly resistant P. aeruginosa infections
Continuity and Pragmatism: How Chinese State-Owned Banks adapted to Hong Kong’s Free Market (1949-1978)
One of the puzzling features of China’s post-1978 economic reforms is how quickly its enterprises adapted to the new business environment. An insight into this puzzle is provided by Chinese state-owned banks in Hong Kong. From 1949-78 these banks, led by the Bank of China, represented China’s primary financial interface with the outside world. What distinguished the management of these banks from their peers was their loyalty to communist values. Yet, despite Mao Zedong’s anti-imperialist anti-capitalist ideology, the Bank of China demonstrated extraordinary business pragmatism in its engagement with the international financial system. It also exemplified a high level of management continuity which enabled it to see beyond a volatile and often hostile political environment. The paper shows that the post-1978 retreat from ideology and its replacement with commercial incentives proved costly in terms of professional standards. A homogenisation of bank management also made it more difficult to recruit senior management whose loyalty to the Communist Party could be assumed. These findings highlight the importance of rule variation in explaining international differences in management behaviour. More generally the paper shows the long term importance of Hong Kong’s role as an internationalising force for China’s business and financial sectors
